need more power

Featured Replies

today i had a traffic light grand prix with my mates 08 focus st and had my ar*e handed to me.i was probably between half a sec to a second slower and even had v-power in the tank.i know the st has roughly 225bhp so on a standard mk1 octy what is the most efficient and cheapest way of getting the car to out perform his so as to surprise him next time.

simple answer here, you have one of two options:

1) £400 remap and not a thing more, by far the best bang for buck.

2) £10,000 big turbo and everything else that goes with it for out and out performance.

forget exhausts, intakes, pipes etc etc etc on top of a remap as they are relatively pointless and will cost the same as the remap many times over. :)

obviously it will be option 1.but would i have to tell the insurance company coz if i crash would they be able to tell it was done.

Strongly advised. They may not look for evidence of tuning but I wouldn't put it past them as it's not hard to detect a map if you have the diagnostic tools.

firstly the focus has 221 bhp and the standard vrs has 180 maybe thats why you lost lol

edited because im silly lol

i have had a race with a couple on a private road and can say they are fast and hard to stay with and i have plenty of mods on mine:D

also if you cant afford insurance with the mods declared then you have the wrong car simple declare everthing

ST is 221bhp not 250bhp ;)

and it weighs more, a decent amount more infact as its only about 13Kg lighter than my octavia 4x4 estate

and yes delcare everything you do.

maybe i read 250 from a mapped one!!!!! heavier wow

lesson find facts before posting lol:D

i had one all over my arris the oter day and couldnt shake him off:mad:

you wont have that problem soon will you ben lol  :D

I must say I do not condone racing on public roads. Very naughty indeed.

?????????? who raced on a public road

Just buy an Impreza WRX! That'll keep him quiet. It's gonna be cheaper, quicker and easier to just buy a faster car I'm afraid. Depends how attached you are to your octy and your cash though really.

To be honest, it's probably gonna be a reasonably close race with even a Fiesta ST. The only way I could shake one the other day was to blast off to 140 for a bit. Cheeky little rascals!

Get a remap and strip the interior out. Cheapest option.

bodge thats some speed lol long private road i like them :D:rofl:

you don't need a massive distance to hit 140, a couple miles should do it quite easily.

not to attached to the octy and a little less attached after getting beat. what sort of hike in insurance and what sort of hike in bhp can i expect with a remap.the problem with an impreza is that they are tacky and i cant afford an evo and would like to stick to german cars preferably VAG group

Did you make that up all by yourself or did you copy and paste it. :P:rofl:

One of the students I teach got one of those (on an '09 plate, he must be mad) and although he can pull away from me he can't go around the roundabout at the top of the hill as fast as I can, bit of give and take there.

That doesn't mean I don't want more power though.

thats why i love german based cars because nothing can compare to the quality and safety of them.i'm sure even a mk1 vrs is better built and put together than an ST and for a german based car the mk1 is quite poor.if you had 221bhp in a mk1 octy i bet you would still beat an ST round a roundabout.

Yeah, the road my work is on is a private (military) road, as I carry out each subsequent upgrade I like to see how much faster it allows me to go round my "control" roundabout.

I am seeing significant improvements already.

More power by xmas.

how did you no that !!!!!!!!!!! :o:D :P

the problem with an impreza is that they are tacky

FPMSL, coming from a Skoda driver. Don't get me wrong, I own a Fabia vRS (180/312) and an Octavia PD140 (with chassis mods), but in owning them I am fully aware that they are from the bargain basement section of VAG Ltd. Once you've driven a good Scooby, got used to it and what they are capable of, and improved your own abilities to get slightly nearer what the car can do, you realise that tacky is not relevant. In truth, once sat in the drivers seat, there's little to choose between most cars, bar arguing over the appearance and feel of plastic, which is a bit sad really. The driving sensation is where you should be focussing, and a well sorted Scoob will give that in spades, much more than its price tag deserves. My old Scoob was a quite humble 260bhp so wouldn't win every traffic light GP if I were to bother, but with the chassis and suspension mods I ran it was almost unbeatable through the bends. If you can blag a go, drive one, for as long as the owner will allow to see what they can do, then come back here and see if your opinion is still worthy of defense. If you know anything about performance driving you'll be back to say you've just placed a deposit. I know if I could justify the expense of running one I'd ditch both our Skoda's in a breath.

I wish I could drive FAST.......

Press the pedal on the right and you can.

Not wishing to be disrespectful of the all conquering Scoop as I use to own one. I too was that Scooby owner who thought that I was invincibly no matter what the situation. Don't get me wrong, they are a very easy car to drive quickly and you don't need much talent to do so. I am just wondering how many well sorted (and I mean very well sorted) Octavia vRS's you have driven to make such a statement. I would make the same challenge and ask you to blag a go in one. All I can say is ask my Scooby/Evo owning mates that have been in my car the same question. Every single one has the very same high opinion of their cars, that is until they get the @ss handed to them.

Scooby ownership comes with its own set of rewards and the list is endless, high insurance costs, bad fuel economy, high repair bills, high mod bills, bad build quality, high new car costs, etc. I think I made the right move and still do.

Just my 2p's worth.
