Hello everyone, we got our fabia 2 weeks ago, a 54 plate red VRS. Still running it in yet but it gives plenty of smiles. :thumbup:also i have a question, sometimes there is a plume of smoke when accelerating, is this normal or is it something to do with running in.

Welcome

Hi A Butcher, do you do home made sausages by any chance! :D

Great car Ey? Top colour too, and cheaper than the other colours. I ordered red, but the 6 week wait put me off especially when a black cancelled order Vrs was sitting in the showroom looking lonely! :(

Welcome :wave23d:

Hello and welcome, great choice of colour :D

Welcome,

the puff of black smoke is perfectly normal for a diesel.

Hi and welcome..

Yes the puff of smoke is normal for a diesel, however it may well go as you run her in. However, it may be that your even now planting your right foot a tad quick which will mean that your seeing unburnt diesel smoke at the back.(I bet you really only notice it at night with cars behind and lights on..yes? In which case no panic that is very normal)

Keep an eye on your oil. The pd,s will use a little up to about 6-10k, then will stop using any.

This being my fourth diesel car, 2 rover 200's and renault clio dci 80 bhp previously, i never saw any smoke at all from the clio but did from both the 2 rovers, being the older type engines.Thinking of putting in some Millers Power Plus to see if that helps.

Only diesel I've ever owned was a Citroen BX TZD turbo-diesel (1.7 litre, 90 bhp). It sure punted out clag if you booted it :)

They all kick out smoke - if you get it remapped it kicks out even more.

Most of what your seeing is the soot build up from the exhaust that is being blown out due to the extra pressure from your right foot.

Go for a nice blast...and the car will emit less visible discharge than before.

That is the penalty of gentle driving with a diesel and then having a blast.

Good to see a Fabia vRS that isn't black at last. :D

Welcome

Regarding the black smoke, it sure smokes a bit, but I find if you feed the throttle gently from when the turbo starts spooling up around 17-1800rpm, it pulls better and smokes less than if you boot it at that engine speed.

Progressive gives you better performance in my experience ;)
