cant believe someone has done that, string em up !

Can't believe it. Poor car. Cars got history. Many times I've been out casing it.

Instead of claiming i'd think about not telling the insurance and pay myself to get resprayed. That way you don't have to pay excess, insurance won't go up for the next 5 years and it won't be down as an insurance right off.

Really is sickening to see that

Hope everything gets sorted out for the owner.

Best of luck mate

Really terrible. Such a senseless crime as what have they got out of it exactly?! Just hateful.

God knows how the owner's feeling - I'd be livid, and looking at putting some decent money into CCTV for the front of the property. What's to say they won't strike again once the damage had been rectified or another car appears?? :(

Sometimes, it'sjust mindless vandalism, which makes it worse. Usually they pick on the nicest cars in the street, and sometimes they only pick a particular colour of car (simple things please mindless idiots)

In my case, I was targetted - they wrote "PIG" across the bonnet in paintstripper.

MAN, was I p*ssed off (and it still took the local police 3 hours to attend...)

Feel for you Johnny50...:rotz:

Not as bad in my case but that happened in Leeds outside where I worked - they keyed my car and my boss's - our cars were both 3 months old, all the other 10 parked there were older cars.

yikes.

Probably poor people tbh.

Speechless :(

Shocking, hope whoever did it gets caught and shot and pays for it...

:rotz: Minute silence for Johnny50's Furby :rotz: Speechless!

Spelling :P

Living opposite a pub I have received my fair share of scratches and key marks... but this is a whole other level. I hope whatever route you choose to take with it that it is speedy and hassle free.

I know this probably won't help, but last year I read a forum thread from someone who had a brand spankin' new '08 Impreza and had paint stripper thrown ALL over the car, far far worse than this one. The insurance company wrote it off, but he fought with them and managed to get them to respray it. It cost them a fair amount, but at least he managed to get it sorted.

I would fight it out with the Insurance co. to start with and then go from there if they refuse. Buying it back sounds like a sensible idea, depending on what they want to charge.

EDIT: Found it! The website is This one here and the particular part you might find helpful/useful is POST 90.

Absolutely gutted to see this :thumbdwn:

String the buggers up by the danglies

Hope it gets sorted with a minimum of fuss.

What FABOKA VRS said

Do not write off and buy back, you will not only have the buy back price and the respray, but for the next five years your insurance will be sky rocketed, so they get back all the write off cost plus about £4k out of you

1. Insurance SHOULD be we all pay into the pot, and then one day when unfortunate enough to claim it is covered

2. Insurance at the moment is we ALL pay into the pot, THEY keep the money, then when you need to claim they give you a loan at 39% APR over five years

That includes the ones supporting this site

If you have had a claim they will not accept you, if you have points for sp30 they will, at an enhanced rate

I feel for you and your Furby, and I too have been bitten, not vandalism as such but hit and run

"Sorry sir it is an at fault claim"

I thought option 1. and was stupid enough to make a claim for 500 of which I paid the first 150

After 1.5 million miles and 40years accident free driving, I have now paid over 1206 back over and above my normal insurance with only two more years to go

So if you can, do not claim, sort it yourself, and if you are a safe driver then only take TPFT or less if possible out in future

Yes I am insured, but reading the daily papers, most unisured drivers only get a £200 fine, Makes one wonder

(I do know personally one driver who had the misfortune of damaging a person in his uninsured car, result is he can no longer work, as any income is to be paid to the damaged party, so he has never worked since (28yrs) lives well on benefits and runs a better car than I

Well an AUDI A4 not better just smarter looking)

Yowza - just seen this!

Johnny, mate, that's just truly shocking. Has just turned my stomach looking at that. You have heartfelt condolences - I just don't know what I'd feel like if that ever happened to one of mine :(

All the best and keep us updated.

Steve

Just spotted this too, makes my blood boil......I would do time for p*icks like this!

Feel so sorry for you Johnny.

Gutted for you mate, not much you can say to that.

Years ago I bought a spanking new Fiesta (when I was young and stupid!).. someone went round our estate with some thick silver paint putting it everywhere.. house doors, cars.. ended up with nearly my whole boot lid and rear window covered in the stuff. Luckily its not quite on the scale of pant stripper... so a fair few hours with some T-cut and it was back to normal. Called the police as I knew who the culprits were (the only family in the area that caused trouble!!) but the police said they could do nothing with there being no evidence. I had to resort to calling a few friends to pay this family a visit... nothing ever happened to my property again fortunately.

Hope you catch them and chop off their hands.

Marc

This sort of stuff is why I just resorted to getting a digital recording CCTV system with night cameras installed. Still cost me nearly 4 figures even after being done by a friend in the business. Over the years have had mirrors kicked off, scratches, neighbours car had people jumping up and down on it's roof. Hate this country, full of scum.

How much is a private respray?

Just as a related update, on my way to work in the morning I always see a lovely forest green VW Bora TDI (all red TDI), which I've admired from afar as a nice tidy example. But this morning the whole thing was covered from bonnet to boot in white gloss

Some 5hithouse had obviously just emptied the whole tin over it. I think this was a deliberate targetting though, because there's plenty of newer, more expensive cars up that street (Audi A4 3.0T Cab, Porsche Boxster S, Audi S3, etc..) and this was the only car 'done'.

Before anyone asks, I didn't take a pic because I didn't think :(

What will the owner have to do to get that off? Will it even come off or will it need a respray? I was thinking plenty of white spirit but would that damage the paint underneath? I'll be checking local news to see if anything gets mentioned

What he said!

My condolances :( I know how you feel after having my car keyed.

If you would like to sell your car - Please do send me a PM. I'm sure we can sort somthing in it's current condition.

All the best,

Rob.

The insurance will bend you over (I have been after a hit and run) as said above.

The problem with a respray is that everything already there will need to come off and the paint stripper neutralised. That isn't going to be cheap although there are people on here who have worked in a body shop and might be able to give a price.

You've also got the problem of any seals or other plastics that have been hit :(

I don't know my stuff.. but could a vinyl wrap be a possible fix?.. Remove and Neutralise the Stripper.. sand smooth, paint purely to re seal and then wrap?
