Liquid Gauge for Fabia MkI Feeler

Featured Replies

Is anybody here from Scotland? racediagnostics are keen to get somebody to test the product before going ahead with the group buy....any takers?

I'm from Scotland, but again price would have to be taken in to consideration.

Oh and am 15 miles from the place...

I live in Glasgow and work in Edinburgh...

And am *very* interested in this thing...

And I would welcome the chance to ask the guy about relocating the control switch off the main board. From other threads, there seems to be a limit to the length of wire you can use...

I would prefer it if the insert they produce (if they do) would fit in the centre air vents as opposed to the drivers side air vent, i find the visibility of the drivers side air vent is restricted a little the right side centre vent offers a much better view.

If they dont go ahead with the mount i was thinking of maybe making a piece of plastic to fit behing the slats in the vent, alraditing this plastic to the back of tha slats to offer support once they are cut, then cutting a rectangle out for the guage to show through

Yeh jamjar I'm kind of in agreement, it would definitely be more visible....maybe they could produce two different kinds? Obviously the centre one would be more expensive as it is a larger piece of plastic.

im hoping its just an insert they produce like they do for the octavia

Octavia%20Insert.jpg

that way it can fit in either side?

nice insert for the Octy

Have they developed this to work on the diesels now?

If so count me in as a deffinate, providing i can have it with the mounting piece for an Ibiza mk4.

Just to let you know the liquid will not work on the MK2 Fabia yet. And you guys should all agree on which vent the unit should go in.

Has anyone tried to remove any of the vents yet and have pictures.

Well i am willing to have them fit this to mines as a 'show' car, and will even allow them to put there decal on my car if they do it for a good price.

Well, I just met up with the guy and everything that should work on a diesel does.

Apart, that is, from the oil temperature. The unit can't communicate with the Fabia's dashpod which is where that value is read from, apparently.

He's going to ask some other people he knows with 1.9TDIs to see if this is common and we'll take it from there. He's had reports of it working fine on an Ibiza with this engine, but he's not sure if the guy doing that has actually checked that graph. The value was missing from where it was expected to be in VAGCOM, which was a bit odd.

Definately worth pursuing, though. People criticise it for its small screen, but I don't think that will be a problem. It can plot so many things! The rolling bhp and torque graphs sold it for me! I'd likely go ahead even if the oil temperature can't be made to work...

He's also got a "project box" mounting solution coming very soon, which I would personally wait for - it's what I was planning to do anyway. Much more flexible than a vent mount.

Hey dxg

That's great news that it worked but not so great news about the oil temperature. It was kind of the main reason I wanted it as I know turbo diesels take an age to heat up and I'd like to know when my oil is up to temp, not just the water. It wouldn't stop me buying the unit but it's just a slight disappointment.

Anyway will wait and see how he gets on with the other TDI's. I know I've seen oil temp on a graph using VAG-COM/VCDS before.

Thanks for meeting up with him.

That's also *exactly* why I was first interested in one - I mentioned this to him wrt winter driving...

But, the boost gauge was fun!!!

sounds amazing

being a bit slow whats a "project box" mounting solution?

It's one of those plastic boxes you can get from Maplins for encasing electronics projects. It's not the most beautiful solution in the word, but it is the most flexible - it would allow you try the thing out in a variety of locations to find one that works. You could put it on the dash somewhere or use any of the options for mounting car phones or GPSs on the windscreen or clipped onto the veins in an unaltered vent, for example.

I'm just not convinced you would be able to see something that's in the right hand vent if your hands were on the wheel in a "ten to two" position...

im not overly put off by the oil temp function not working obviously would be a benefit but if it cant be done oh well

Good news indeed on the whole. Keep us posted :)

so are they going to make a mount for the fabia?

The guy who could be able to say will be on holiday at the moment, so I guess we'll have to wait for a little while to find out. And to see if he has been able to get to the bottom of the oil temperature / dashpod communication issue...
