1.8T Conversion

Featured Replies

Done a quick search and didn't find anything....

I have a vRS, and would love to convert it to a 1.8T petrol engine. Possible? Whats involved? how much? anyone know a place that would do it?

Don't bother doing a vRS - Better off doing it on a cheapo older petrol car in my opinion. I think a 2 litre would be a good starting point.

or buy an ibiza or polo.

yer do it to a petrol engined fabia! doing it to a diesel you'd have to change all the diesel pump over and everything! such a ballache! although if you are mega interested speak to kev at jabbasport! i know hes done a lot of thinking about this and research!!

With some skoda badges and some treatment with a big hammer like in Father Ted that could work. :D

Id love a 1.8T Fabia!

I miss my 1.8T sooooo much! :(

an equivalent age/milage fabia is about £7500 and a conversion is gonna cost you way more than £1500 not to mention insurance and resale.

Depending on whether you wanted it for a fun project or just a toy with no resale, combining say

51 REG SKODA FABIA SDI IN EX- COND FULL HISTORY @ £895 on eBay (end time 19-Jul-09 13:28:03 BST)

with say:

2003 SEAT LEON CUPRA R SALVAGE REPAIRS CAT D 225 TURBO on eBay (end time 17-Jul-09 13:34:18 BST)

could be good? Outlay of £3500 on the two cars. LCR can donate the BAM engine, brembos, and other running gear as needed. Sure will be hard work plumbing in everything out the LCR into the fabia (I imagine the dash would need mongrelling to fit....). Afterwards the bits leftover from both (SDI running gear, LCR wheels & panels) can be sold on to recoup back some outlay.

It's the way I would personally attack it, and the way I wish I had attacked my own conversion - in hindsight.

it sure would be a lot of work, the engine doesn't fit.

Oh it does :D (with some work) - There's a blue fabia in Europe somewhere running BAM setup. For some reason my memory is saying the fabia has a Smurf theme, all blue? [goes off to youtube]

I was slightly wrong. It's an octy vRS (AGU?) engine, not a BAM.

ok maybe i was a little vague, it will fit much like my mates RWD 2.0 nova :)

I'd like to see a 1.8T Fabia in Britain.

Its a great idea buddy, would love to see it done, and to hear it, would be nice to hear a vrs with a petrol burble coming from the exhaust.

Oh, and isn't the Milotec vrs a 1.8 turbo?

A mk4 ibiza 1.8t should drop in using the same engine mounts as a fabia i believe.. Once my diesel gets tired i'll be looking for a rear ended ibiza 1.8t :D

This is my next conversion, a 1.8T fabia. Was looking at going one further and either doing it 4wd or rwd. Would be a laugh turning up to a drift event in a fabia estate!

I believe that Lummox has quoted someone about £3000 plus the parts to do this.Given that you can pick up a decent X-plate for £1000 and the engine would be a couple of hundred from a breakers it could be a pretty cheap fireball if it was done right.

2.7T a definite no go, unless you want to mid mount it ;)

Rear ended Ibiza or polo is what you need :)

I'd give it a shot. :D Might involve a lot of bulkhead removal but would be fun :D Last resort attempt to drop the fabia body on the S4 chassis :D

please show me any 20v for a couple of hundred, rough no history junkers start at 500,and believe me its too cheap, you need to look at paying 1k+ for just the engine ecu/turbo then you need a gearbox(you could use the 6 speed but would need a lot of power to optimise it)

Watch this space, starting my new project this year, gonna build the ultimate fabia estate sleeper using the 1.8 20v turbo Quattro running gear
