Protecting/Cleaning Alloys

Featured Replies

My car produces a lot of brake dust and with the winter weather on its way i want to look after my alloys

What products do you recommend to clean/protect them, cheers :)

clean - mc2

protect - swissol

hth. :)

I was thinking of using NXT wax on them, would waxing them help? I'm not used to having to get brake dust off as my clio had brembo's.

What about turtle wax extreame? i might give it a go tonight

waxing your wheels (as i understand it ) follows the same concept as waxing any other part of your car, ie. it provides a protective layer and makes it more difficult for stuff such as brake dust to bond/stick to the wheels, thereby making the cleaning process much easier. they also look nicer! :)

Not that keen on the turtle wax extreme stuff, only reason I bought it as it was on BOGOF at halford.

I think its a bit too Extreme

Using the same wax on your wheels that you use on the rest of your car is a good start, but the really good stuff is specially forumlated for this job and contains PTFE so it will last very well and do the job better. Alloys ain't cheap, even refurbing them - I know, just had mine done - this Swissol product is

For cleaning wheels, use Viro-Sol... (do a google search for virosol or viro-sol)

Polish - works a treat apparently

I used "wheel Wax " on mine I am not sure whether its any better than car wax but it was like putting on slightly melted butter but with the lovely smell of coconut , carnauba etc - wonder what its like on toast ? :D

what about tyre blackening stuff?

Get some MC2, one of those small hand sprayers from a garden centre & a jet wash, saves all that hard work.

MC2 can be diluited 10:1 so a 5 litre bottle will last for ages

Just remember with the MC2 to give it a bit of time to work, I normally spray the wheels first, then get the rest of the cleaning kit out & make a coffee

If you have a really bad set of wheels, the sort that havent been cleaned for many months use MC2 neat the first time & work it into any heavy deposits with a toothbrush or similar

Isnt MC2 just like wonder wheels though? What I mean by that is, yes it does remove brake dust, but it also corrodes your alloys, and over time, you will loose all the protective layers which are sprayed on by the factory, and you'll need to get them restored?

Im unsure about this, but I would definately recommend to everyone that they keep well away from wonder wheels, it may look good the first time, but you'll have lost any shine in your alloys after the 3rd or 4th time.

MC2 is totally non-corrosive, and is perfecty safe. Don't forget its also diluted down with water. Try doing that with Wonder Wheels etc and see if it still works ;)

ok.

Who Makes MC2 ?

Where can I get ?

Approx How much ?

Thanks

You need to get in touch with Mark "Wax wizard" on the forum. He'll be able to sort you out. IIRC, he makes the stuff himself and it's not "branded" but is a lovely pink colour and when you smell it, you're convinced you could drink that fruit juice :D

We did a group buy some time ago now. Can't remember how much it was. But it comes either in 5L plastic oil-type bottles, or 25L drums IIRC.

Edited to say he's also a distributor of swissol products, so if you want to combine a wax and MC2 purchase, he can sort you out. Remember to mention Briskoda

HTH :)
