which remap can't be detected

indeed, it's the only way to avoid detection as you haven't modified the standard ECU in any way shape or form :D

so can you copy all the information from one ecu to the other? would the serial number need to be changed?

I think what Jon means is that if you have your car remapped and then you have a warranty issue , you then put in the new untampered ECU when it goes in for the warranty work .............after the warranty work is complete you then revert back to ECU which has been remapped .

Which is what I said earlier :) As I also said, if you want to do it, get a replacement ECU and mod that :D

sounds like good idea to me ....i'll ask the question next time I see someone relevant and see if it would be that simple........at brands this weekend so i'll see if anyone is in the know there :)

I understand that, but If I was to get another ECU then wouldn't it have a different settings for things like the engine imobliser, key codes and that sort of thing?

And can you use an ECU from a Golf/Leon?

All these can be "got around"....As Jason (DevonUtopia) will testify :)

Boyced, you can "copy" the info from one to the other, as I said, for things like immobiliser, key codes etc etc. Oh and Pete, you leasve the one that came with the car alone, its the one you buy thgat you molest :D

right, who will do this wonderous deed? pm will do if its secret!

So does it need to be an Octy ECU or will any other VAG unit do? And how much would a new ECU cost?

There are 53 different ECUs listed for the Octavia alone - although some have been superceded. The price seems to have dropped from circa

I don't know what the ECU records, but it must capture certain running statistics from the engine regarding usage, duration, etc. I don't know, but it may look a bit suspicious if you took your vehicle in for a 10,000 mile routine service and the ECU (via VAGCOM) showed that the engine had only been run for 1 or 2 hours since the last service! I know the vRS is fast, but even Concorde was not as fast as that :)

now thats a good point! Is the mileage stored on the ECU, or is it stored on another puter?
