newbie needs advice

hello all, :newbie:

i joined up as i was reading autocar, and read the articles on the vrs fabia, well i was well impressed,

basically though need a little more info about the car,

firstly hows the build quality i expect good due to VAG bits in the car, also the driveability whats it like in real world times i.e whats it as quick as, also whats a chipped and zorst one like is it a massive improvement on the car, the mileage is it really as good as 50mpg???

hows the diesel sound, i.e refrained or truck,

and lastly a silly question i know but what colour does the dash light up like anyone got pics,

or has anyone in car vids just so i know

Hello and welcome...

Obviously the following is all my own opinions :D

Build quality is pretty good, great value for money.

Still running mine on abit so not very spirited driving at the mo, but handling is ok for a standard car, and performance through the gears is great but unfortunatley off the lights its not brilliant as it's diesel (although I am still running in)

On a casual run across town or through traffic I'm getting up to 53mpg's, but on a drive to work and back sat at 85 on cruise i'm getting 44 - 47mpg's.

I've heard worse diesel's and with the stereo on I hardly ever hear it, maybe only sometimes when I'm sat in traffic.

Dash lights up green, not a great colour but it matches my origin b2 so i'm happy.

Alli in all... well happy with the little beast :D:cool:

whats the average age of the owners is it mainly a teen goin on to 21 thing or is it more a mature owner,

myself i'm 23 4yearsncb, what i like is the fact its cheep brand new even all the options i added on at a place called tins.co.uk came within my budget which is a bonus

i also like the fact chipped it goes upto a mega 310lbft torque + the 180 odd bhp must be rapid indeedy,

what sort of performance league is a non chipped and chipped version, what sort of mileage is it best to chip them from ?

sorry for 20 questions but i'm looking at all the options, proberly gonna start an argument but whats a better car the fabia or octavia for the all round package??

Hi mate and welcome  Firstly let me tell you i have had mine for 9000 miles now and i think it is great. Just got it Revo'd on friday, boy is it quick. Went up against an astra coope turbo and I kept pulling him in when i went past him :D he knew he was beat he stopped at the garage where i stopped and I made sure that I kept the DIESEL engine running to rub salt into the wounds. So basically for 500 quid + the VAT you have a little pocket rocket. But for gods sake get the handling sorted.

As for your age question I am 24. I think there may be older aswell. Sitting on the mtotorway at 80 I get about 53 MPG going to work and back, 160 miles everyday :thumbdwn:

Seiously if you get one you will not be disapointed they are excellent value for money.

The age range varies in here for the furby from early twentys upwards

Thought there was a thread the other day from someone (walkie ??) asking if he was the youngest and he's 19.

Upper limit - depends if you count CJs actual or (self confessed) mental age :D

Oh you are a wag Jane! :hilarius:

Hi Luke..don't ask which Skoda is best or all hell will break loose!

oh..you have done............I'm off!

whats a better car the fabia or octavia for the all round package??

The easy answer is that's they're both good all-round packages. If you need the extra room/extra performance and aren't especially bothered about economy, etc. then the Octy's for you.

If you don't need the extra space, and like the idea of the economy, the Fabia would be a better bet.

Rob.

Nice unbiased trouble free statement that Rob! True too..but will it last! :(

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rolleyes:

I'm 24 and my Dad's 65  ... we both have one ;) . (well, I will when the DVLA pull their fingers out! )

Liam, excuse my ignorance on personal plate malarky..not a big fan of them..too easily recognised..but couldn't you have taken the car with a 54 plate for now, and have the private one transferred later?

Nice to see another local member posting in here regulary by the way!

Local lads..question..where has HKP gone..hasn't been in here for weeks now?

I could've done that beforehand but not now the docs have been sent to the DVLA, we're awaiting the tax and another form back. I did what you've mentioned when I got my Focus because it was sat there waiting to go so I knew I could get it within a couple of days, so I transferred the plate afterwards. With the Fabia, it was still somewhere else in the country when we sorted the cherished plate docs so I (and Fred at Mitchells) assumed the car would arrive at the same time as the docs, but obviously not. :(

My plates are on the car and it's waiting to go, just need these docs...

Shall I go and knock on Freds door and see if he is up yet? :D

Not sure on HKP - HKP cat has been in though. I presume he still has no job and therefore is not always trawling through the site like those of still left in IT. :D

Please don't Andy... I take it you live near Fred then? Nice fella... ;)

Only found out it was Fred the other week when CJ was round at my house.

I'd been tailed by this guy in a Superb from up the road a few times on the M53 and then CJ pointed out it was Fred.

Dash illumination looks like this...

And with a few subtle mods the Fabia can look like a propper street sleeper ;)

Having worked on both Audi and SEAT and now Skoda I can quite honestly say the Skoda have the build quality edge, I'm doing far less trim/rattle rectification now that what i've done in the past. My Dad drives an Audi A4 S-line and he loves the Fabia (kicks his ass to ;) )

For the money you just cant go wrong, and the grin factor is HUGE! Pkus theres lots of cheap mods you can do and you'll be very suprised what you keep up with in the little Fabia, mine seems to love picking fights with bigger cars for some reason ;)

nice looking car ross, not so keen on the rims but liking the shiny black look,

i am thinking now that this is the car for me as i will save loads of money, i been looking at all sorts of cars (clio v6, hondas2000, integra type r) and for the price say 12.5k with all options i can get myself a brand new car that in real life situations is supposedly as quick at least it will cause the other person to outstretch himself to get past. its well built , insurance is about

btw that grill really sets the car off makes it look loads better, :)

The old wheels...

Same size, they were a pain to clean though..lol.

I'm the opposite Ross, I love the newer wheels :) ... what are they? They're nice and different, just the way I like it... ;)

quote:from ross "mine seems to love picking fights with bigger cars for some reason " I have an angry fabia aswell ross. just won't stop picking fights since Revo was slapped in

The bastid wont stop it I tell ya, especially since I serviced it, amazing what a difference removing half a inch of dead insects off the bottom of your air filter will do..lol

And Liam, wheels are Audi TT Competition items, refurbed silver rather than the polished finish that they usually are.

They're really smart mate, keep these ones on! :D
