Your Skoda History, how far do you go?

Featured Replies

Just wondered who had the longest Skoda history.

I can remember back to when I was ten (25 years ago :( ) and my uncle who was more like my older brother bought a new Super Estelle in white. I can remember thinking it was rather cool at the time because it had variable intermittant wipers.

A couple of years later he bought a Rapid Coupe with Vinyl roof. :D Still cool to me being a young lad and being driven around in a new coupe with four headlights.

The Skoda jokes had yet to really take hold and both cars proved very reliable.

Had a bit of a break then until 1994 when my dad bought a Favorite. It wasn't a bad car but the steering was very heavy and the paint quality was poor.

In 1997 he swapped that for a Felicia 1.9D, which I bought off him for my wife in 1999. Over the seven years it has been 100% reliable, economical, and an easy drive.

About two weeks ago I bought a Fabia TDi Comfort for my wife and my Dad has bought the Felicia back off me to run as a second car.

So impressed with the Fabia I finaly did what I had been thinking of doing since I first saw TaviaRS's Octavia at Prodrives test track a few years ago and I bought myself an Octavia. :)

So that's my Skoda history complete. :)

Cheers

Lee, I bought an Estelle from the auction about 14 yrs ago. Used it for a short while before sticking it on a car sales forecourt to sell on a sale or return basis.

Cleaned it up and drove it. Must say I was pleasantly suprised. Late car for just a few hundred pounds.Took a while to sell it, but it went eventually. Made a hundred quid I think.

Was a bit noisy and ponderous, and wobbled around corners like a blamanche, but I did like it in a warped sort of way!

Mine isn't so long, I had my first one back in '86. Unfortunately it died a heros death when I barrel rolled it on Epynt (how did I get a co-driver who got car sick when reading maps in the car  ) The second one died when on another event, my driver put it through a dry stone wall at about 75 - 80

Then I bought the slow black one, renowned for its track appearances and turning up at Scoob meets :D

Now I have the very slow silver diesel one :D

My family have been buying Skodas from the same dealers since 1983. I also had a saturday job there for a few years and also done my work experience there as well.

We have had in that time: 3 Estelles, 2 Favorits, 3 Felicias, 2 Octavias, 3 Fabias (only two of the Fabias are mine though).

Only fifteen months for me. First octy vrs in July last year, second octy vrs and furby vrs last October.

My skoda history started 01/03/04. Been a great 14K miles :D

History would of started sooner but due to age and insurance it never did. Always wanted a Octy RS since it's launch.

So you got a fabia?

Mind you we went in for a 130pd octavia estate :D

A-B girl (my sis) had a blue 135 some time ago, failed it's MOT and was eventually sold, I bought my octy in 2002, my sis bought her octy in 04, and my folks bought their octy recently.....

(Now there is three octavia estates in the family, I'm thinking they are getting a bit common!)

So did I :(

Yep. :D Still due to age and insurance :thumbdwn: And something to do with the fact a test drove the furby as well :D

I am absolutely chuffed to bits with it! :D

If your going from order then its almost 1 year for me.

Bought my first and only Skoda on the 12/03/04 and have covered 12k in it and apparently spent

owned my vRS since the end of January this year, never had one before but i'll have another after this... which wont be for some time yet ;)

I've only had a Skoda for one day.

But I first took the mickey out of a Skoda about 15 years ago: a mate had an Estelle, and I had a Morris Minor, and the Minor was quieter, faster and handled better, even though it was 20 years old, and the Estelle was virtually new!

I knew someone else who had an early Skoda Coupe of some sort, with twin headlights, and yellow paint work. It actually looked pretty smart, even though it was still largely a bit poo to drive.

Skoda didn't really appeal to me, until the vRS models arrived.

Skodas feature heavily in my family's last 15 years of motoring history. My eldest brother started it with an A-reg 120 LSE (new shape) then traded this for a new Favourit when these first hit the streets. Meanwhile my Mum had purchased an E-reg (from new) black Rapid and later my Dad went for a new G-reg 130 RS featuring big spoiler, white "mini-lite" alloys, body kit, Spax springs and dampers, Weber carb, K&N filter, Group A exhaust and a sporty cam-shaft.

Later Mum's Rapid was traded for a new H-reg Favourit. These were the last of the real Skodas for my family.

Meanwhile in about 1992, I got hold of an A-reg 120 LSE (old shape) featuring a dent on every panel. This lasted a year before being replaced with a (beige and vinyl-roofed) 120LE. Later this was traded for a 135Ric Rapid which lasted me until end of 1997 when it was sold to my second brother (who eventually traded it for a Scooby WRC station wagon). Back again my eldest brother, he had himself an Octy estate (W-reg) 150bhp 1.8T (same as ncarring's saloon). And finally, after a 1.6 L-reg Mondeo (in place of my Rapid), I went back to Skoda in March 2002 for the current yellow peril.

The end (it's a Skoda adventure...)

I do think black wheels look excellent on yellow cars...

Have had 3 Skodas so far, my latest being my lovely blue lagoon metalic Fabia Comfort 1.4 which I bought from Bickerton Garage July this year,(I'm owner no:2). I think it's better than the Polo...(sshhh! Don't tell my wife ;) )

My 1st Skoda was a 'G' plate Rapid which belonged to my father in law, which I eventually sold as I couldn't afford to run it ( poorly paid job!)

I then defected to driving Minis, 3 in total, which were a hoot and a pain in equal measure , I daren't think about how much dosh I spent fettling with them! :o

Then after my last mini p***ed me off one time too many , I part exchanged it at Bickertons, for Romantic Red '95 Felicia LXI. I must admit seeing a certain Mr S. Blomquist chucking one about on the '96 RAC may have influenced my decision!

I wasn't actually looking to change my car until I reversed into metal wheely bin and bust the rear light cluster, and while going to fetch the replacement part spotted the car I have now that fitted my budget.

Still got a silly cheshire cat grin on my face so the novelties not worn off yet! :D:thumbup:

David

1st Skoda in my family :)

Close family has had lots of "classics" (E Type, Frazer Nash Targa Florio, Minors, Sprites, Beetles, MG B and MG midgets), used quite a few Peugeots (404 and 504s - some were great  ) and lots of Alfas (of the Alfasud era) out in Kenya, and then 3 911s including a turbo, an Alfa 156, Corrado VR6, a Sierra and a Mondeo :o (both were me!), Peugeot 106 GTI and Clio 16v. Current family cars are mine, Clio 172, BMW 330d estate (I think?), Merc E55 estate, Focus estate, Mondeo (sis-in-law!), Seat Ibiza 1.4 Sport and Seat Leon Cupra.

1st and only Skoda (just coming up to 2 years ownership), but it may not be the last ...

My new Furby vRS is my first Skoda, I've had 2 Fiestas and a Focus previously. My Dad is on his second Fabia, first was a 1.4 Comfort and then a vRS... :)

Seem to recall on a previous thread somewhere that you said your dad was in his 60's..apologies if I'm wrong. If so that makes me feel real good, knowing that there is someone older than me driving a Fab. Vrs. :D

Four years ago, I wouldn't have dreamed of buying a Skoda. If you'd cut me in two, you would have found the word "Citroen" running through me. However, after the best part of 20 years owning Citroens, I decided that they had lost the plot with the C5.

So, off we went to make up a shortlist - Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Peugeot, Renault, Saab, Subaru (notice the lack of Ford, Rover, Vauxhall...); er...- add Skoda, just for fun.

The shortlist dwindled to two. The Mitsubishi Galant (I wanted a Galant), and the Skoda Octavia (couldn't shake it off the shortlist, no matter how I fiddled the selection criteria). The rest, as they say, is history...

I test drove a Galant from the garage next door to the Skoda dealership where I bought the Octavia - in fact it may have been then that I spotted it sitting outside. It was only a 2.0 though - I think you need the V6 to have any fun factor.
