What did you do to your Skoda today?

Featured Replies

I would get an aftermarket warranty that cover electrics then mate. Not having a dig as s-max's are good cars but i know of 2 friends who have had humongous bills for electrical problems. One was a 56 plate and one was a 57 i think. They both loved their cars but my cousin with the 56 plate is now getting rid due to recent huge repair bills. Funnily enough she wnats a kuga?? I did point out it was still a ford and could be subject to similar faults but she wont listen, has her heart set on it. They were maybe isolated incidents but i only know 2 people with s-max's and both had big problems. Fingers crossed you wont suffer the same but are aftermarket electrical warranties really that expensive?

The garage quoted £99 for a 6month electrical warranty which sounds quite good, however I haven't read through exactly what it covers but hope todo so on my night shifts this week. We are intending to fit a towbar with the Ford wiring harness as I too have read about various faults that can occur when not using the Ford kit.

Swings and roundabouts though, a friend who works for West Yorks Police as a mechanic can't rate Fords highly enough as they have less faults with the Fords than any other make, plus he has been a Ford rally mechanic and restores Fords (a bit of a Ford nut) so I'm well sorted IF I have any problems.

  • Popped to the garage at lunchtime to swap coolant temp sensor. I don't think it's the problem but it can't hurt. Going to swap O2 sensor later for the spare I have. Went well, all sorted in 5 mins. T

£99 for 6 months is pretty good tbh. Id get one of those for a year and then think about it again the following year. Your right though it depends on what the warranty excludes. Electrical issues tend to be worse than mechanical as they are harder to trace so a lot of time and money is spent needlessley checking and changing diiferent things befroe the culprit is found. I almost bought an s-max. Really liked it and has so much space in the rear. Drove my cousins one and it was great to drive not like a big people carrier at all.

I removed a lock from another fabia in the scrapyard with help from lee :)

Had a new pipe to intercooler fitted as it was split. Car running as it should again.

Filled it with fuel. Then drove it....slowly. Too many other vehicles around.

Today I took the Octavia to a main dealer for a variable service and MOT. (Covered 76,000 miles)

Picked up this evening. The bill was exactly as expected, no extras required.

Total cost £238 (inc VAT)

Looked at her out the window wishing it was Sunday tomorrow so i could have my new bit added. ;)

Took it back to the dealer AGAIN for more sticking plasters from SUK to stop it drinking oil like an alcoholic sups vodka

Fitted new wheel centre caps; new logo.

Used it for the last time delivering Chinese!

Took it to 109k on the m3. Also took the girlfriends dog for a short low speed spin.

Washed and polished car, and got the autosol out and polished the life out of the exhaust tips and heat shield under the bonnet until you could see your face in them! Obviously they won't stay like that for long, but never mind.

Received my front and back new Skoda logo badges from Superskoda. Now getting the info from the Briskoda site on how to remove the old ones and replace them. I must say that Superskoda is very efficient. 5 days from order to delivery from Czech Republic to N. Ireland isn't bad. I've had local 2nd class post take that long!

Drove it through London and all the way home. Very little traffic about in London at 8am on a Saturday :)

I then gave it a much needed clean, and it looks great (from several metres away)

I took off the rear door cards and sealed up the inners with silicon. Hopefully then my floor will dry out.

Finally sorted the +12V & switched live feeds to my Pure 300Di DAB & Parrot MKi9200 Bluetooth. It's only taken me 10 months.

Now the phone will charge off of the USB in the jumbo box when I leave it in the car and I can pause the radio when I pop to the apps. Woohoo!

had it detailed by ChrisRs and his apprentice Alan (bluevrs2)

and a fine job was done

Changed reverse and reg plate bulbs to LEDs and front indicator bulbs for silver bulbs.

Also changed fuse for interior light after removing it to fix hanging switch and trying to get hands free mic into the area with the foam.

took the door card off the O/S/R door, and kicked the focker hard as you like, the ****'s still shut. Tried the new lock while the card was off, that works. Mallet n chisel time methinks!

Hoovered the inside and removed the grille surround to paint. Primered it, and waiting for it to dry before I spray it black

Put 200+ miles on it on a run down to Coventry.

Put my black grille surround on :)
