First accident today woop!!!!

Featured Replies

So first accident today think i wrote off a smart car.

Damage:

bonnet

seatbelt

airbag

radiator and mountings

front bumper

power steering

bonnet release is caved in so i cant see the engine but i think its ok

anyone got a rough idea how much this will cost to fix?

The story:

i'm going along a single carageway (national road) theres a fiesta stopped because there was something up with their bonnet catch and the smart car in front of me instead of just overtaking just puts her hazards on and breaks really hard and its a wet road so ... bang, cant help but think that that is slightly her fault aswell

also what do you think the possibility would be that it gets fixed if i get it to a skoda dealer on monday but i do have to do the insurance thing

Sorry to hear that, but you should be able to 'stop in the distance you can see to be clear' - so no matter what happens, you should be able to pull up in time. Easy saying that now though, I know!

Some photos might help of the damage, but it's very difficult to give an estimate on cost to fix without getting a full assessment done really; there might be damaged parts that you can't see for example.

really dark atm but i'll get some photos up tomorrow it looks like front end damage and i dont think it can be too horific because the headlights are still secure ( but the metal 'thing' they're connected to is abit bent) and the engine doesn't sound any crappier than usual except the power steering. what i'm worries about is the insurance because its probably my fault does it count as two claims for my car and hers or ...?

Don't think so mate just one claim, if you're fully comp they'd pay for both, third party just theirs. Really hoping your fully comp as unfortunately sounds like your fault, especially if she used hazzards before slowing but 99% of people would be guilty of this too

Hope it gets sorted okay mate, you okay i take it?

Yes, one claim - as said, if you're insured fully comp then the one claim will be the cost of your repairs and the other party, including any additional costs (personal injury etc).

airbags.... f****** hurt!!!

oh well guess i'm boing to be keeping fagballs for a couple more years

Sadly in a rear ender it will always be your fault.

In the event of a chain crash, you always want someone to rear end you, as the person at the back usually pays for all the others!

You can't go accusing anyone of being a rear ender without any evidence :rotz:

Sometimes hazards come on when the brakes are anchored on... maybe that's what you saw?

Almost all German originated cars will do this.

Fords and Vauxhalls flash the brake lights so you know is stopping rather than anything else.

sorry to hear about your bump - not that you want to hear this but it will almost certailnly be dealt with as your fault as far as insurance is concerened

if you are Comp your insurers will pay for all damage and any likely no win no fee claim the other driver puts in, however it will affect your No Claims Bonus and you also probably have an excess which you'll have to pay.

as a bit of advice - if your insurers decide your car ia a total loss consider asking them for an offer to retain the salvage which you can then repair provided it is safe to do so. This is sometimes a better option that the offer they will make for a write off as it gives you a chance to keep your car and repair it yourself

good luck

you rear ended sum1 its your fault full stop..your insurers are looking at 2 repairs + almost certainly a personal injury claim....

Skoda won't be able to fix it either, they can probably send you to a bodyshop they know or trust to do work for themselves...

Looking at a big claim, most likely personal injury and the fixing of your car/replacement of hers!

Maybe £2k or more for yours in parts and labour - best mate works in a bodyshop local if you want a good repairer?

Sorry to hear about your accident,

As already mentioned, I suspect the accident will go against you as you are meant to leave sufficent gap to pull up in the event that the car in front stops no matter how quickly they stop. I also suspect, that since the airbags have deployed on your own car that it will be declared a write off as is usually the case due to the cost of replacing the airbag(s) and control module and anything else damaged, especially considering your car is 8 years old.

You might think that , but you'd be wrong.

Normally yes. I had a bump two years ago on the M6. It was actually 6 cars in the end.

I stopped at the front, the lass behind just about stopped, then a split second later she was moving again, followed by 4 other smacks.

After 12 months the blame was finally attrbuited to the guy who hit the girl behind me. So he caused the accident everyone else then got involved.

He was also the only one on the hardshoulder with his head in his hands. So we all pretty much knew it was him on the day.

We were the only ones to drive off from it too.

Sadly for the op a single carigae way it is permissible to stop, even suddenly, however it might not be black and white. Was the stopped car, not the smart, illuminated, etc, these are some of the questions one can ask....

Most of us have had bumps in one way or another and it's now almost certain you will have or be involved in one.

Yes it will cost some moeny but the important thing is to learn from it, both of mine have taught me big lessons and I'm far more aware, nay paranoid of other users etc.

Hope you are ok and the other driver, at the end of the day it's all that matters.

that's a scrapper mate, not worth fixing

I agree with TT above

and Volvos flash their hazards when braking heavily

Yeah, sorry to say I wouldn't hold out hope on that returning to the road mate :(

Not unless your fixing it your self with scrapper parts and not painting.

I'd say the Fabia is a write off too, especially as airbags were deployed :(

You fully comp or 3rd party mate?

fully comp

Ah, not too bad then. Be prepared to fight with them for a reasonable payout for your car. Start looking at adverts of similar cars to get an idea of prices...

skoda fabia classic 1.4 8v mpi ~108k miles. one website told me that at private sale it would be worth £1200

Will be a write off due to the age and value of the car
