I'm really new to all this having bought my f/l exactly seven days ago - most all of the VAG stuff is a complete mystery. Seems to me that the Maxidot is a really useful extension of the control system and it opens up a whole host of things even without the sat nav. Now I have the Bolero so that's for another time as is the MDI interface. At the moment, it's the Xenons that bother me...

The car I bought was specced with leather, f & r OPS and Xenons but not Maxidot. Is there any way I can configure the lamps for european use or is it a dealer only job? Bit of a shame if it is. Also a shame that the manual vRS seems not to be able to have the multi-function control steering wheel.

Next and rather more intriquing, has anybody fitted a maxidot to a f/l? There's some info on the forum but not much that I can see that I can be certain is up to date enough for a f/l. Can it be done at all as a retrofit?

Awesome pics.

Mudhut, I'm afraid it's a dealer job. My advice would be to go straight back to dealer and ask how the lights are changed for euro travel cos you want to go on hols next week (act dumb about maxidot). He will tell you that it is a dealer only task . You will then ask why you weren'n told about this when you specified the xenon option and perhaps they should do the change free of charge every time you want to go to euroland. For more info look up "travel mode" in owner's manual.

Best of luck!

Thats the first time Ive seen maxidot in such detail - are the pre FL cars similar in regards to maxidot functions?

Just been on to skoda uk to find out if maxidot is standard on my new octavia cr dsg vrs and like the dealer they havent got a clue.

Any ideas or has anyone had anything confimed with skoda.

I really want it but dont want to pay for it if it is standard on the dsg.

Thanks for that flinflon.

Unfortunately, the car wasn't new when I bought it. It was delivered to the previous owner in Dec 2009 than traded in a short while ago against a new Focus RS. I flew to Edinburgh then train to Dundee because it was: less than 6k on the clock and priced at less than £16k with those expensive options. Didn't realise at the time that the Maxidot was so important.

I can see that retrofitting a Maxidot might be a pain, what with the odometer to sort, getting the ECU to recognise it (presumably) and the radio to talk to it. Will try to investigate this more as I think it's the most important thing I can do right now to improve the car.

Don't want to hijack this thread but maybe this is the right place to consider the upgrade. Happy to start a new thread if that's what's needed. If so perhaps a mod would let me know.

Ben from Shark Performance (aka shark_90) can retro fit them. Certainly to pre facelift models, not sure about facelifts.

He's the man to speak to about it anyway!

I am almost certain that the DSG comes with maxidot as standard so no need to order it separately.

The current brochure suggests otherwise unless you've also ordered Bluetooth and telephone function.

It is a Skoda brochure though, so may not actually be accurate

Yes Maxidot is standard on DSG models.

I have new FL DSG CR and maxidot was included with DSG.

Also a shame that the manual vRS seems not to be able to have the multi-function control steering wheel.

There are a number of options for a multi-function steering wheel (MFSW) on a manual F/L vRS:

1. Fit a vRS DSG wheel along with the additional controllers, though you'll have redundant flappy paddles.

2. Fit a three-spoke MFSW from the Octavia accessories brochure along with the additional controllers. No paddles, but no perforated leather or vRS badge.

3. Fit another VAG group MFSW from an Audi A3 or Golf GTi along with the additional controllers.

Sadly, none of the above options are cheap though and all will require VAG Com or similar to programme the car.

It really is about time SUK recognised the safety benefits of a MFSW on one of their performance models.

You have Bluetooth and Sat Nav. The brochure suggests that Maxidot came with these rather than with DSG, and that if you hadn't specified these items you would not have had standard Maxidot.

Some fairly convincing posts on it if you have a scan through this thread:

Seems to be standard with DSG, regardless of BT or SN.

As I said ... "It is a Skoda brochure though, so may not actually be accurate"

I am not personally bothered - ordered Elegance 1.8 TSi manual. It isn't standard with this model.

@blank: Thanks for the pointer to Shark Performance - just got off the phone to him.

For everybody without a Maxidot display on a facelift car: Ben at Shark Performance cannot currently add a Maxidot to these cars because he needs access to dealer level equipment. He believes that it can be done but he's not likely to be able to do so himself in the immediate future. He seemed to think that no franchised dealer will think it can be done either.

Moral of the story: if you are ordering a new manual gearbox version, get it on the spec sheet from the outset.

Ben at Shark is correct; Skoda dealers are unwilling to retrofit maxidot on FL models apparently because of the complexity of reprogramming. Whoever cracks this problem could make a fortune. I bet the enterprising after-market specialists in Czech Republic are on to it - I believe www.skodateile.cz now offer maxidot for petrol FL model but of course the speedo is in kph.

Current brochure, dated 01/11, indicates that Maxi-dot is standard on the vRS with DSG; also seems to part of spec for Greenline and L&K cars (if the brochure is to be believed!)

Don't have maxidot myself, but from reading around I think some of the features are only available when the car's parked up (poss with engine off), so maybe that's what you've experienced?

Anyone knows why the non-maxidot (Octavia II) in trip counter (#2 screen -total-) only counts up to 499 and then starts again from 0?, is it possible to modify it (manually) to keep counting up to 9999?.

Thanks!

I have fitted several Facelift Clusters to several cars on this forum
