Rear screen wash "Spray" question

Featured Replies

Can anyone tell me.

The rear wash on my Fabia seems to be missing something. There is a big plastic cap at the base of the wiper with nothing in other than it covers the rear wash jet and the rear wash is just a stream of water that hits about one third up the rear window. Is there anything that goes inside the plastic cap and over the washer jet to make it a spray of water rather than a jet?

Nope, rear washer is a simple jet and not a fan spray.

The rear washer is just a simple single jet and it should stay at the same vertical position when the washer is operated. I think you are expecting it be be a fan jet like the fronts, but it is not.

At least you are not asking how to fix it if it did not work, as there are many threads and a sticky on that subject. I will have to investigate mine as it's not working.

Edit: Moggy answered it whilst I was writing this.

Yep, the slot in the cover means it doesn't block the jet of washwater as the wiper turns. It should probably hit the screen a bit higher up, though - adjustment is by the old skool pin technique...

Thanks everyone. At least i know there nothing missing on the car at least, Drivers brain is sometimes vacant but........

as long as its not moving with the wiper its fine :) If it starts moving with it, the pipes starting to rust and seize inside!

Newly registered here and was just about to ask the same question!

Are there any after market nozzles that can be fitted to turn it in to a spray? would be more useful than the pathetic dribble it gives out at the moment ... (I've had my Fabia Blackline 10 days, and so far this is the only thing that annoys me! I love it!)

I think you should check the rear washer hose connectors one may have come adrift!

The rear washer is fairly powerfulemoticon-0148-yes.gif

I'll give it a look over - thanks! emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Have noticed this morning that the rear washer is indeed moving with the wiper arm... I've had a look at the other threads related to this and am confident that I can fix this myself, however, the link to the "fix kit" on one of the threads now appears to be dead and the skoda accessories webpage has been down all week...

Does anyone know where I can buy the bit I need to fix this? I'm happy to fix this one myself, don't want to pay garage labour rates for a simple swap out of a part...

Alternatively, what are the chances that a good dose of WD-40 might ease up whatever's rusted causing the issue?

You could try your local VW dealer and hope someone on the parts desk is knowledgeable enough to know about the repair kit. If the jet is moving with the wiper then the washer tube is bust, no amount of WD 40 will fix that.

I think this is the thread you are looking for: My rear wiper jet no longer rotates with the arm It gives you a picture of what the kit is. It looks a quite easy job to do.

The very good post where it tells you where the rear washer pipe comes off is Here

Maybe have a look on the suggested link and see my posting on May 30 11:58 - ie it might be possible to clean up and reuse what you have - I seem to remember that VAG supply two diferent grades of grease, so maybe nip into Maplin and just buy some silicon grease for lubricating the washer tube inside the wipre spindle after you have cleaned it up. You can then redistribute the heavier grease already in the area where the big platsic gear wheel is. If you do buy a repair kit, then pay particular attention to my comments about "blue-printing" the mechanism on the new wiper spindle as both my new ones were a bit tight at the end of the expected travel - better to do that than cause new problems!

In this cold weather the hardest part will be getting the rear hatch cover off intact, I'd suggest that anyone that wants to avoid this happening with their car (rotating washer spray bar), should take this part to bits > clean it up > refit it when the weather gets quite a bit warmer as I'd reckon that this failure WILL happen rather than MIGHT happen.
