Fabia vRS options - which are best?

Featured Replies

Hello all!

Ive been watching this forum for the last week and it seems a good community so I finally joined. So hello!

Anyways, today I went for a second VRS test drive (had to take the g/f along for exterior colour assesment :shakehead). But it all lingers on the deal I can get (working hard on it :smash:). However Im keen to know what options are worth it. The options I have my eyes on are:

Xenons

Black Magic Paint

Cruise Control

Parking sensors

What experience do people have of them? Are they good value for money? Particularly are the Xenons any good? How blue is the light? Any other options that are worth it?

Many thanks,

VRS_AML

Hi, and welcome :)

Unfortunatly i can't give you any opinions with the options as i didnt go for any. I originally was going to get xenons but in the end decided not to, but i find the standard lights are pretty good.

Despite not having any options I am extremely pleased with my purchase :)

May i also recommend www.tins.co.uk got a craking deal, good luck with your purchase

I'm with Walkie on this one. The only factory option mine has is metallic/pearl paint, ive just added my own 'special' options.

Get some headlight protectors when you get it - It'll save you a wedge of money by preventing the xenons getting smashed. Might blind other drivers but could save you

Ive been looking at Tins but I reckon I can get a better deal through the dealer. Did you guys buy through Tins? How did you find them? When you get your car serviced, how receptive is the dealer bearing in mind you didnt buy from them?

I appreciate your advice guys.

Cheers,

re A.Laws, the headlight lenses on the xenons are poly carb, so are shatter resistant. The options I went for on my fabia vrs are as follows, xenons, cruise, chip, ITG air filter and exhaust. She now has about 210 horses. I was told you cant have the park sensors on the vrs.

Are the h/lamp lenses bought through Skoda or aftermarket jobbies?

I bought mine from tins and was very impressed with the company. Deliverd in mint condition on the back of a car transporter to my door. I have not yet needed to have my car serviced, but am sure when I do i will receive a top job due to Skoda's glowing reputation :D

In brief I recommend them

Ok Walkie, thanks for the advice. I will have a further look into it.

Like you I did not want the xenons - worried about replacement costs and when you sell the car any buyer is likely to think about this as well.

An easy upgrade is to change the standard bulbs to something like Osram Silver Stars or Philips Vision Plus - both improve range and are brighter.

Snap standard furby for me nothing to see here.... ;)

Having had Xenons on 2nd to last car and then having to have normal lights on the last car I made sure that the vRS I bought had Xenons. Purely because they light up the road a lot better (both left and right) especially in the wet when the dirt covers the white lines. So for me it is saftey especially in a performance car like this.

I have never considered the replacement cost of Xenons on my previous car (which I had for 2 years with no issues) nor this car. If anything goes wrong with the bulbs I guess I will be putting the car into the dealer under the warranty. I hope the light cluster plastic is as strong as VW advertise on their Passats (made of the same material to stop bullets)

Personally, I would make sure I had Xenons on all my cars.

As for the blinding, well I get blinded far more by owners of cars who put their fog lights on in non foggy weather (usually BMW drivers who could not afford to have the Xenons trying make up for that fact) or have badly adjusted headlamps.

Cruise

I agree the cruise is cool (although not as good as the new Audi nudge up/down cruise) for going through speed controlled areas.

Parking Sensors

I think the car is too small and does not have a decieving front or back to warrant having parking sensors. But it might be needed for some people.

Sat Nav

Having had full blown Sat Nav Plus in my last car (Audi) linked into the traffic reports which rerouted you accordingly I would (if one has the means) look seriously at getting either that option before or getting as an after market one. Lots of people swear by Tom Tom on a Pocket PC. Me personally I prefer the flush fitted Sat Navs rather than a Pocket PC stuck onto the dash. But I can see the advantage. On my vRS I did not get factory fitted Sat Nav due to money.

Good luck and enjoy the car.

Impressive, whos map is it? What boost are you running to get 210 bhp and I take it its on the std turbo, correct?

And hows the ITG filter, induction kit or panel filter, if so where from?

Cheers

Ross

Why would putting headlamp protectors over Xenons cause them to blind people?

Skoda have advised not to fit protectors onto Xenon headlamps, i think its to do with the washing facility or smoething liek that, not 100% sure.

Thanks Roh,

I think I'm gonna go for the Xenons along with all the other options previously mentioned. I will keep my eye on the forum for the next week of so to see what further info I can gather.

I still have some time as I havnt ordered the car yet - I have yet to squeeze the dealer a little further with regards a discount. :jab:

With regards the parking sensors, my g/f will be driving the car :insane:    :insane:

Thanks again,

VRS_AML

I played two dealers against each other to try and get the best deal - and luckily ended up with the better dealer. They reckon they only get 8% discount from Skoda UK. With the other dealer throwing in 'free paint' and that being matched followed by no

Thanks for the info Jerry,

I think I'm definately gonna get the Xenons. How blue do they look? The reason I ask is there seem to be varying amount of 'blue'. New Mercs have the bluest Xenons I've seen!

If you dont mind my asking, what did you manage to haggle the dealer down too? I plan on phoning a few other local dealers this week and seeing if I can better my current deal (approx 9.4% off of list). There's more in there - I know it!

Thanks,

Grant

Cheers Ross...

They didn't tell my mum that when she bought two sets from the dealer the other day (we both have xenons and they know this)... (and I had them on my Polo GTi)... I haven't had anyone flash at me (the usual benchmark as to whether you're blinding other people lol).

I'll let you know how I go on.

I went with xenons, cruise, sunroof, metallic silver and managed to get the dealer to chuck in Supaguard at no extra cost - and the whole lot came in at a tad over

Cargo net under the parcel shelf - very handy to store things like beer/wine bottles, tools etc etc to stop rolling around in the boot. Should be able to get it thrown in to the deal (it's only about 11 quid, code DMA 410 002).

6 CD autochanger (AAP 035 001) under the passenger seat, it's a good position (saves faffing about in the boot like other cars) that doesn't lose you any storage space. This is something which will provide some value to a new owner at trade in/sale on.

Black magic looks great when it's clean (just washed mine today so happy with my choice again!) but gets dirty quick and looks rotten when filthy.

Xenons - hmm, nice but not worth it for the list price IMHO

Cruise - depends on the driving environment you're going to be in the most really, a personal choice.

Parking sensors - I always seem to think the Fabia's back is closer to the car behind than it is and when you get out there's loads of room, so if I had them, would only use them to get in nice and tight - sort of opposite to their intended 'avoidance'...

HTH.

If anything goes wrong with the bulbs I guess I will be putting the car into the dealer under the warranty.
Bulbs - along with filters, spark plugs, drive belts, wiper blades, clutch and brake linings etc etc - are not covered by the warranty.

The Xenons flick on with a blue tinge but it soon diappears and through my rose tinted specs look pretty damn white to me (with just the beam edge being blue perhaps).

I paid the princely sum of
