Insurance Premiums for your Skoda 1.9 TDI?

Featured Replies

Just got my renewal through the post

£352 3rd party fire, theft, inc £52 breakdown cover (not sure to what level that cover is mind you)

I'm 30 plus,

living in a very quiet and low crime/incident area

home owner

3years no claims

4points 2years ago

no accidents

I do 15,000miles a year for work and social

Car is 2002 Fabia 1.9tdi 100bhp

I went onto money supermarket and gocompare and finally RAC website, and the best quotes I can get for FULLY COMP are £400 (but not including Breakdown, AND I had to add my Girlfried who is a solictor with no convictions/points to make it cheaper still)

Am I expecting TOO MUCH at thinking £400 is just too expensive for this type of 'Sensible' Car??

My R32 costs me £450 or £500 (i cant remember) and that's on a unlimited mileage policy, fully comp (although I must have 7 or 8years NCB on that car)

Doesn't make any sense?!

lols, think yourself lucky, I pay £1500. Having said that I am only 19 with 2years NCB...no points, no crashes...

Insurance costs have/are going up by around 10% this year, probably something to do with it!

I've had a quote of £425 to insure a similar car, but with a declared 300bhp!

What postcode are you (first half) as that can dictate the premium regardless of the actual area you live in. I know I am in a real good area of Devon for this. I am the same age basically but do have 6 years no claims and a clean license.

Well my R32 and Fabia are at the same house, so with that in mind, why is the premium of the Skoda so close to the R32?

Are there any insurance companies that give Briskoda members discount?

Yes, look in the Insurance bit of the Site Sponsors section.

I've saved again this year (just renewed today) so this 'across the board' increase is very much dependant on how you shop around really...

I'm 24, 2yrs NCB, no points, no crashes, living in a high risk postcode and I'm getting quotes of £1000+ fully comp.

The age of the car irrelevant, it's in a group, that is cross referenced with the group your postcode is in. That gives a base premium. You then add things to it like 10-15% for having 4-6 points, then knock the NCD off it.

tbh anything round £300 is peanuts. For years I've lived on farms right on the edge of Gtr Manchester, sometimes with nearest neighbours 1/2 mile away, but it's classed as an urban area so tough luck me as far as insurance company is concerned it's a high crime area.

if you have a full ncd on one car, forget online and ring your insurance company, ask for the full NCD to be applied to both cars. If they say no go for a multi-car policy with a more sensible company.

For info, I'm 36, have been driving for 20 yrs tomorrow (it's my birthday!!!), I've never made a claim, am an advanced driver, police pursuit trained, don't have any points on my license and online I regularly get quoted over a grand for a VRS. I struggle to keep it below £500. Even my old man as a 63 yr old who hasn't made a claim for 20 yrs, with a clean license, can't get a Honda civic insured for less than £350.

lol :)

You guys do pay alot!

I pay £350 fully comp - 25 with 7 years ncb :D

Got SWMBOs Fabia 1.4 TDI estate fully comp for £180 with Chris Knott. My Octy 1.9 TDI for £225 through the IAM, although Sky quoted the same. Both policies have protected NCB and £150 XS and are cheaper than last year.

Also worth trying Direct Line as they were amongst the cheapest without accepting a higher excess.

Classic insurance on the 968 with mileage limited to 5000 and guaranteed value of £10k was around £200 last year, so I'll need to see how that looks in a couple of months when it comes up for renewal.

Similar to you £314 inc the declared bluefin remap was £200 without it , the thing is I quote 105bhp plus the 27bhp Bluefin claims to boost it by as thats all I have to go on (132) but I have no real idea of the current BHP I wonder how this stands with the insurance people if it ends up been more ?

Are they really gonna RR'd it if it's been crashed? Let's be realistic, lol

Damnit! Beat me to it!

I was £415 FC, PNCD, 23 yrs, 5yrs NC on a modified policy on a vRS...

They dont need to RR it, they can and do remove ECUs from cars to check for remaps especially since the serial port mapping came about. All they need do is hook the ECU up, read the flash count or the ECU checksum agains known oem values and voila they can check the ecu is remapped in less than 5 mins without even starting the car.

Mine's looking to be about £240 on my vRS this year (5 years no claims). That is until you protect your no claims and ask for a guaranteed hire car when it creeps up to nearer £300.

Wish I was paying £352...

I think CJS was more meaning that if you've declared it as being remapped from 100 BHP to 135 BHP, are they going to test it to make sure the 135 BHP figure issued by the remap supplier was correct, or if it was an under-estimate and really say 165 BHP?

Hmm my ex wife is claims manager for a well known insurance company and she reckons they don't have a clue whether something is remapped or not, and they never check for it because they simply don't have enough claims inspectors to be going out checking ECU's on every claim. NB SHE COULD BE TELLING LIES BECAUSE SHE HATES ME

£280 on a 1.9TDi Estate. Fully comp with business use included, two drivers, both full NCB but one with 3 points both around the 40 yr old mark.

I paid 495 with directline on the VRS fully comp. 21, 4 years NCB 3 points and thats based on 20,000 miles a year. Only driver on the policy too, it actually went up when I tried adding my mum this year?

I renewed my policy in January, £243 fully comp with Aviva for a 35 year old. This included Guaranteed full no claims, hire car parked on a drive and the other half as a named driver.

Just had a quote from Adrian Flux for a future purchase of a vRS and have been quoted £815.

22yrs, 4NCB, 3 points, high crime rate but a very reasonable quote compared to my old Fiesta that they wanted over a grand for at the same address.

im paying bout 900. that 21yr old 1yrs no claims, 3 points and 3 insurance claims of loss and damage :D i was a bit clumsy in my youth!
