Fabia RS official photos and info

The proportions were a bit iffy, granted, but I thought it was quite clean and classy looking - like a mini Audi Avant. Would have looked good in VRS trim. But each to their own... :)

Agreed! I like you had a mk1 estate pic and I really liked the way it looked. I only got rid because I wanted a faster car, so got the seat cordoba (which came with the PD130 engine from '03-'06) so I could have something as close as possible to a vRS estate without doing the conversion myself. I think the mk2 estate looks just as good as the mk1 (apart from the lights, don't like the lights (Front or rear) at all on the mk2!) and would happily own a vRS estate (petrol or diesel) Preferably a magic black one without roofbars. :D

I am surprised there ara no LED rear lights to help it stand out from the rest of the range?

They seen to becoming standard on lots of run of the mill superminis.

Does a fully kitted used VRS SE now seem good value at half the price of new model?

I've owned my vRS since new, march '05, and I still love it. It cost me £11,300. I'm a bit of an outsider these days because I drive a 2008 Audi TT Coupe most of the time, leaving my wife with the furby :)

The mk1 vRS was a real 'performance' bargain, and a decent looking beast aswell, whereas the latest version is pretty damn boring, dull - even ugly! If I was to spend £16k+ on one I would be clinically insane!

Can anyone really see themselves buying one over a MINI Cooper S? Or a Clio 200, Polo GTi etc???

Even though I'm not in the market for a new vRS, I can't help but feel massively let down by what Skoda have produced with the mkII vRS.

BTW I only came back on here in the hope that there would be some new pics that make it look half decent, as opposed to the rancid green vRS from the Geneva show.

Rant over! ;)

There's no shortage of competition for "hot" superminis but small estates is another matter. It's just possible Skoda can dominate a niche market with a vRS estate.

i too prefer it wihout roof rails, which looks lower and sleeker.

I've read in this month's Evo that SEAT are following Skoda and doing an 'Estate' version of the Ibiza. Being a SEAT though it looks sleeker and more sporty with a fastback style to the estate section.

Not sure why SEAT chose to put such tiny wheels on the Geneva show car - it looks bloody awful!

The only problem with the ibiza ST is so far there's no announcement that it's going to have powerful engines. (1.2 TSI and 1.6 TDI are the most powerful on offer at the moment) I can't imagine they will ever do a cupra (180bhp) version of it but they would be daft not to do a diesel FR. So for me my decision comes down to which one will have the best engine. So far it's the fabia. :)

Take a dog turd, sprinkle some hundreds and thousands over it, maybe arrange some tinsle around it as well,

hey presto, it's still a dog turd.

Mines not fully kitted, is 5 years old, but I honestly wouldn't swap it for the new estate vRS, I might look

at the hatch-back though :smirk:

I thought the Se's were all 07 reg's so 3 years old?

Edit; just noticed your signature! Doh!

im liking the new green and black theme, to be hopes they bring a diesel out in it and then would be best of both worlds and probably be a better allrounder, no too keen on the alloys though but if they have kept the 5x100pcd like the other fabia mk2`s could always put some different vag wheels on it. ill be goin for a test drive when its due out and compare lol

Hatch looks good.

Estate looks lardy.

Needs a diesel option(CR140/170?).

Needs a manual option (I've no doubt the DSG system is good, but come on).

Needs something to liven up the interior slightly.

Seats look good.

My tuppence :)

Going back a few posts, I would buy the VRS over a Mini Cooper (hate them), a Clio (French crap) but not sure the Polo yet, need to see them both. Thing is, all cars are getting pricey now, if the VRS had been launched say a year ago it would have been around 15k, maybe less.

Yes the original Furby was a bargain in 2005, but it needed to be as it looked weird and had one of the dullest interiors of any car, ever. 16K for the power and the fabulous DSG isnt that expensive nowadays.

One thing though, Skoda really need to improve the interior quality of the Fabia 2, Ive had much older cars with better fit and finish. Its OK on the surface but start looking deeper and touching and poking stuff and its well below todays standards. Mind you, Ive ridden in dozens of Octavias at work and they all seem to creak and rattle after a few miles.

The old VRS owners are bound to hate the new one, its a petrol and they obviously all like diesels or they wouldnt have bought the VRS. Also, it must be hard seeing the better looking Fabia 2s on the road while youre driving your funny looking cars :giggle:

Are you talking about the build quality or the use of materials?

My Roomster only has one or two annoying rattles but generally I'm pretty happy with the build, especially the exterior of the car panel fit e.t.c.

I would prefer a "slush moulded" dash like the Fabia 1 or the Yeti/Octavia/Superb but the bits you touch and feel are all nice in the Scout with leather and chrome (handbrake, steering wheel)

I think it's all about how it's decorated. Some of the seat fabrics in the cheaper spec Fabia2 models were a bit naff, but higher up the range the interiors were much better and the changes on the facelift look good (more real chrome, new radio and climate controls)

Haven't read the whole thread, but is it the case that they can't actually put a manual in this platform with this engine? because it isn't even an option on the Fabia, the Ibiza Cupra or the Polo GTi? It would otherwise be a bit foolish, because I for one still prefer manual control.

Is the DSG box smaller than a manual one then? Ive never seen the actual gearboxes out of a car , maybe a manual takes up more space , space that isnt there with this engine fitted to a car of the size of the Fabia/Polo/Ibiza??

Bloody horrible, looks very tall and not very sporty at all! I was considering changing to the new style VRS (based on the wide arch images from a while back) but not now I have seen the real thing.

Nah the DSG is a big heavy thing. Not sure exactly why you cant have a manual. the DSG would actually be more economical than a 6-speed manual. (and CO2 emissions would be better on the auto too) Personally I think I would prefer the auto.

I thought that the new dry clutch 7 speed dsg was significantly lighter that the old wet clutch 6 spped dsg it just can't handle as much torque. I think that the 7 speed is probably around the same weight as the manual.

OctaviaT81, I mean the dashboard build quality.... the airbags lids rattle. Mine was fixed but its started rattling again. I get the odd rattle from my door and also an airvent on drivers side. The passenger seat has a vibration unless someone is sitting in it. Have a push on the ventilation control panel, its squeaks and creaks and the small panels either side of it dont line up well. The top of the dash around the windscreen flexes about a lot. The material used is average, but acceptable. It just seems hastily assembled and without much care. Ive had Fiats with much better fit and finish inside, and no rattles at all. I will just put up with mine now, but it doesnt inspire me to rush out and buy another VAG car in the future.

Bodywise, yes its beautifully made and everything else is very good. Dont get me wrong, I really love the car but expected more given the hype about VAG cars in general. Mind you, its a tad better than the Mk3 Golf my wife once owned, now that was a car built by a blind man on a bad day :giggle:

I don't see why people are hating so much on the new RS... I kinda like it and think it's a car with lots of potential.

sorry; but that's pointless IMHO - unless you have shares in a Dental Practice and know a friendly chiropractor.

It also looks like the suspension is broken. Why do people have this odd desire to lower a car, just doesnt do it for me

Because we're cool and have spines made from jelly :)

Look up cool in the dictionary ;)

I'll take a decked grey one please!

I don't hate the new one, just the fact that the reason I bought my mk1 is because of the Diesel economy for the amount of miles I drive every year (20k ish) and I only want a small car which is why the petrol version is a straight turn off for me and many other in my position.

I'm interested in having a go in one just to feel the power and handling etc, but as for buying one...no thanks Skoda.

That's pretty impressive stuff! I'm very unsure about black wheels now, I think they would be too dark!

Can you do me a favour? Can you do me (i) a Race Blue with white Roof/wheels?

(2) a Race Blue with Silver Roof/Wheels?

(3) a Black with Silver Roof/wheels?

Not asking much am I? However ,I would appreciate it!

Having owned a MKI Fabia VRS, I think the MKII is OK but perhaps does not stand out enough from the standard car (in particular the sport). There's always been the petrol vs diesel debate, I think part of the charm of the MKI was the fact it was an oil burner.

It's good to see the addition of an iPod & USB connection, something that was lacking from the standard MKII fabia (don't talk to me about the line in :p ).

I guess it probably comes down to cost, common components across the Skoda/Seat/VW range make for lower R&D/manufacturing costs and increased profit margins. Hence it makes more sense to make it a petrol shame really as Skoda appear to be losing their identity in the process (eg. blue illumination = VW, green = Skoda). Perhaps after 4 Fabia's I'm a bit set in my ways!

On a personal note I'm pleased they've not launched a more powerful diesel in the Fabia otherwise I'd be frustrated with my recent MKII purchase.
