Cheers matey, that's the decider for me..............Defo the Race Blue, White roof and Silver Wheels. That's gonna be my new vRS!

To put it in perspective then, the new 180HP Fabia RS has two more features not broadcast at the Geneva launch: (1) less room in the driver's seat due to the ridiculous wad of money in your pocket that you'll still have after buying it; and (2) a picture of the VW Scirocco 160HP and the VW Golf GT in it's rear view mirror.

But will it be able to keep up with them around corners...?

But both of those cars are in the class above, give more space and comfort (and a better VW interior.)

I know what you mean, but it made me think of something else. The Estate version will pretty much be in a class of its own (although I imagine Seat will stick the same engine in the Ibiza ST at some point).

I had a quick skim through the tables in the back of the latest 'What Car?', and (unless someone corrects me) I reckon there's only one other estate car for sale in the UK with more power that's less than £20K..... the Octavia estate! Even in the class above the Fabia, the Golf/Focus/Astra Estates all have less power, and I think it's only the Megane Estate (or Sports Tourer or whatever it's called) that has a model of similar power.

They're also the next size above, so will get more space than the Fabia, in theory!

I may be tempted by an ex demo estate though. No way would I buy one new!

The more I see the more I am actually now starting to like it. The Fabia 2 styling is still a bit marmite, it's no looker, the rear quarter still looks "wrong" and the car appears (although it probably isn't) high and narrow.

Price will be one thing, if it's at the rumoured prices, then it would put me off, after having the vRoomster, which shares the interior, there is to much scratchy cheep plastic for my liking. All in all though, not a bad effort and 180BHP is on or there about power wise.

I could see me owning a decent spec ex demo or similar, but then the other thing that springs to mind is that it's in Cooper S territory or 500 Abarth and they would be much more fun and involving to drive.

The only way you'd buy this over the 500 is if you were either a] an idiot, or b] need the space.

I was dissapointed at first, was propaly expecting a bit wider arches to make it stick out more from the Sport, but I must admitt, after having having given it a thought, I really like it now.....

The front looks aggressive and sleek with the new bumper/spoiler and the rest is what I like already. The cabin is very like my Sport witch makes it a nice to be. Am very pleased with the seats, offers good comfort and "grip". Hopefully they have corrected the small problems with noises from the dashboard.....

All in all, a car I will strongly think about when the time comes to replace my current Fabia.

Actually I also like the Scout model of the hatchback, but that is a different thread..

I am seriously considering this for both your reasons, a] :p and b]

Whilst my 500 is a really nice car, its embarrasing that SWMBO's Smart will take 2 shop boxes & 2 cool bags with shopping in the back, the 500 wont without folding the rear seats down, that I had to pay extra for. :S . I was considering the Abarth 500 next year, but not now.

I think that's my point about the estate really - if you do need the space, the estate doesn't have a lot of competition.

I don't like the looks much, but maybe it will look better 'in the flesh'.

From Yahoo news:

Skoda Fabia vRS

Skoda has taken a long time replacing the Fabia vRS, which held the useful honour of being the only truly hot diesel supermini. Skoda has switched to petrol power this time around, giving the newcomer the 1.4-litre TSI engine found in the Polo GTI. It's good for 178bhp. This will be a quick little hatch.

The vRS was kept a closely guarded secret before Geneva, so when the covers were pulled off nobody knew quite what to expect. 'Discreet' is probably the best word for it. The arches are un-flared, and the only real performance clues are a couple of badges, a contrasting colour for the roof and big wheels. Value will be its USP though - it's expected to undercut the Polo GTI by around £2,000.

Price: Under £16,000

Release date: Summer 2010

Under £16k and it starts to look better....

Probably by £5!! ;)

Still! It's better than £18k!

From Yahoo news:

I don't get all this talk of "flared arches" There are not many cheapish performance versions of famly cars that do have them are there?

They obviously missed the front bumper, which is much more agressive than the one on the Polo GTI for starters!

I had a good look at the new Polo today, Im glad I have my Fabia tbh as the Polo was nowt special

Urgh! Don't let me see that rear "diffuser" again. It's boggin'!

+1 - A nice deep bumper would be much better. One of the reasons I like the exhaust cutout on the mk1

Is this really the best that Skoda could do? I'm still in love with the Polo GTI...

Having now been in it and spent a good amount of time around it and the combi vRS I just dont like it!

The interior is ok, moreso with the red fleck through it but I just couldnt bring myself to part with 16k+ for a well specced one.

Where have you managed to 'spend a good time around it' and 'in it', it isn't supposed to be out til June??

Oh dear, so dull. Though I have to say the 'seasick green' doesnt help at all!

Like many have said, still too tall, still too narrow.

Think I'll stick with my Mk1 till the wheels fall off, by then they may have a mark 3 out and someone in the design team will have grown some taters! :wonder:

Unfortunately I can see this becoming one of those cars that time will forget in VERY short order, if it looks dated now imagine in 5 years, specially surrounded in a sea of cars like the ever-fresh looking Audi A4 or the neat little Polo...........

A shame really, they seem to have lost their way somewhat.

2 on show at the 'Geneva' motorshow, just 'back' today. ;)

I don't agree....I have always liked cars that have a bit of character about them and the facelift vRS fits the bill. Let's face it, it DOES look different to the Polo GTI and the Ibiza Cupra.

Also, the green isn't to my taste either but in Race Blue with a white roof, it'll look pretty damn hot!

Well, I parked next to a new Polo yesterday, and honestly the Fabia 2 looked better IMO. It stands out more and all this talk of dated etc, load of bull... whats dated and whats not is down to personal preferances

I bet in a few months when the VRS is out, people will buy them more than they did the original... simply because it has an engine and not a vibrating generator under the bonnet :giggle:
