Fabia RS official photos and info

Featured Replies

Well, I parked next to a new Polo yesterday, and honestly the Fabia 2 looked better IMO. It stands out more and all this talk of dated etc, load of bull... whats dated and whats not is down to personal preferances

I bet in a few months when the VRS is out, people will buy them more than they did the original... simply because it has an engine and not a vibrating generator under the bonnet :giggle:

That is exactly what it is......personal preferances.

Somehow it seems that the only REAL Fabia in this forum is the mk1.......

I must admitt I never thought once about buying it when it was at the dealers. It just wasn´t the model for me.

I like the current model and in my eyes makes the mk1 look old. I have a lot of respect for people who is passionate about their cars, but sometimes this makes them blind for new things. The mk1 is for me not a benchmake in automotive history, so all the critisisme against the mk2 sometimes seems a bit overkill. Also when I and my fellow mk2 owners are called idiots for not buying a Fiat 500 instead, on a Skoda forum, things get a little out of hand...

It really annoying to be hammered all the time over and over again with the same things, so please.....move on guys.

just my 2p

The Mk1 was a decent car, the Mk2 improved on it in some areas.

I reckon the cenral locking wll be standard on the UK car as the mark one had it but seriously will consider one of these. Not bothered about the engine size as the tech more than makes up for it: dual charged and DSG. It all depends on whether Skoda offer it for a reasonable price. The engines complexity is a worry but my standard VRS needed a new turbo at 35000 (paid for out of goodwill from Skoda) so it can't be any worse! Will have to wait and see what the car is like to drive on launch.

Any of the first gen Furby fans like me convinced by this, anyone upgrading or thinking of it?

Few interesting technical points about the new RS from the article in today's Autocar:

- New rear axle compared to the standard Fabia

- Faster steering rack

- Skoda's chassis guy said it won't be as stiffly sprung as the Polo and Ibiza (might be good for UK roads!)

True enough.

I'll be the first to admit that the Mk1 wasn't exactly cutting edge in its looks, more 'purposeful' with a touch of 'blocky'. I dont doubt its cos I've grown to love mine that anything else seems a little 'odd'.

Its a bit like when the Mk 5 Golf came out, I was like 'what the hell is that?', but then it grew on me, now I'm the same with the Mk 6, and look upon Mk 5 owners with some envy!

What I meant to say, but went off at a tangent really, is that they did such a good job on the Mk 2 Octavia, its like they used all their ideas to make it stand out a bit on one car.

Plus I dont doubt that if it had been in Race Blue in those pics the opinions would be vastly different..................

And I happen to like my vibrating generator

Does it matter if its petrol or diesel as I think the mk2 vRS will be a hit if skoda keep the "package" like the mk1.

Cheap to buy and run, looks good and able to give abit of fun when needed. I will agree the mk1 does look old now compaired to the mk2 but I like my dated old looking fabia mk1 vRS.

What, when its blurry  ??

Haha!

Nice pics BigW!

But stepped backwards in others, quality of interior materials, and styling imho.

Totally agree with that statement ! Being an ex Fabia vRS Mk 1 Owner I honestly think that Skoda have got it so so wrong on styling (No Frills prices that reflect the £2000 cheaper than Polo GTi) I suspect !

The Mk 1 looks far more sporty inside and out and was much better value for money. The Mk 2 might grow on me in time but I will always look at the Mk 1 and remember that as the true vRS rather than this tainted version that IMHO has lost the spirit and soul of the original car that I and so mnay other people love.

Infact apart from the much higher running costs Im so glad I bought my Mazda MPS 3 at a bargain of 16k spanking brand new !

I enjoy the little snide comments made by mk1 owners usually mk1 Vrs owners. Now my comments are based on the fact that i own a mk2 and that my dad had a mk1 fabia vrs for 4 years. So i reckon i have a certain portion of fair judgment on this. The original mk1 fabia vrs is not the best car in the world like half of you think! Its a horrid looking wedge shape which makes better on the even more boring standard look of the mk1 fabia range. The interior is no were near the level of quality that the mk2 is. Leaking rear doors??? on the mk1? yep fab build quality there. Only lifted by decent seats and a fancy gear knob. I have no idea at all why all the mk2 haters bash the mk2's interior for QUALITY??? and LOOKS??? its absurd. As well as the outside of the car, i have not yet had one person who has looked at my sport to a mk1 vrs and gone yer the vrs looks better. (Granted a white roof with red panels does add to the is it a mini?!?!) The mk2 vrs is so much more than the mk1 vrs will ever be. A stunning powerful smooth torque filled engine. (Plenty of room for more power) A sharp, fast, easy gearbox. An XDS differential as well as other chassis changes. This car standard car to standard car wouldnt just beat the mk1 in every possible situation it would eat it up for breakfast and make it look like the mk1 was standing still. And this is were i can possibly see the haters bringing there heads out. Because yes this car is better than YOUR CAR!! And before theres a million replies saying it costs £££'s more, yes it does and its worth every single one those £'s To own one of these to see the look of dispair when you get blipped at the lights in your mk1's. Now usually I dont bother replying to these type of people. But its a JOKE! You insult all mk2 owners with your harsh comments. This car is not even on British roads! Dont judge it, So. Otherwise you will look like bigger fools than you already do look like!!

I would say 2p But thats more like a Fiver!!

Another thing to consider Mk1. RS vs. Mk2. is that there will be a considerable amount less weight over the front axle...

A fiver? You just blew a lottery win!

Someone else who is fed up of the mk2 bashing, if you don't like it that much then dont buy it no one is forcing you to have one. The only bit I liked better on the Mk1 were the sliver interior door handles. Other than that I can't really think of a single thing I miss or think was better on the old model, and I have had 2 of the mk1's.

Well said, I guess traditional Skoda owners dont like change :giggle:

Both cars have their merits, the original looks like a Skoda in that its odd looking and quirky. The interior was pretty good in its day but dreadfully boring. Those white seats were rubbish, they always tore apart on the bolsters and the gearknob used to lose its coating and look like it was rusting, not good.

Im sure when its launched and people see there isnt much competition in this price range now itll sell very well... ALL cars are pricey now, and if VAT goes up as they are predicting then they will be even more so.

Lets call a truce, end of the day I dont go in the Mk1 section and slag off their cars so why they feel the need to do it the other way I dont know.

I wouldn't know about interior tearing because I had full leather seats and door calls ;-P, Plus xenon lights

You are taking these things a little personally, take a look back at posts on this forum from around 2003/2004 when the Mk1 came out and see that the 'Octavia Lot' were very similar, its human nature, the mk2 is the new kid at school, and before I become friends with it i'm going to bully it a bit

I'm not slagging it, hell I went to the motorshow as a potential customer for it, and having seen it and spent a good deal of time in it my opinion is that if I am going to spend £16k+ on a car it wouldnt be that, but theres no accounting for personal preferences I see.

I really like the look of it, the build quality is better than my Mk1 vRS, no doubt about that and if it had a decent CR Diesel then I would probably buy one, but annual mileage kills it for me.

Just had a look on the SEAT website and their Cupra Ibiza uses the same engine and no Diesel. However, the FR versions have a 150 petrol and a 140 CR Diesel in them, perhaps this is something Skoda might do in the future and up-rate the Sport to this sort of spec for say 15k?

We all know that the 170 CR Diesel is a no-no for the Fabia so I think this would be a good idea for Skoda to offer a Sport with the same details at the SEAT, at least it would offer something to a potential customer like me who want to stay with Skoda, want a small car but just can't justify the 180 petrol for financial reasons.

That way, they still have the vRS on it's own but a neat compromise for fat balding Diesel drivers like me.

If they came up with a Sport with the 140 CR engine then I would probably buy one and it would suit me as I don't drive like a **** anyway.

I enjoy the little snide comments made by mk1 owners usually mk1 Vrs owners. Now my comments are based on the fact that i own a mk2 and that my dad had a mk1 fabia vrs for 4 years.

I am basing my opinions on my experiences with my cars.

Mk1 Fabia vRS

Mk2 Octavia vRS 2.0TFSi

Mk2 Octavia PD140 DSG Elegance

Roomster Scout 1.9 TDi

Mk1 Superb L&K V6 TDi

The Roomster shares the interior with the Mk2 Fabia, and whilst it was screwed together well, it was ALL scratchy plastics, like something from Korea. The seats in the Mk1 vRS, though a bugger to keep clean where far more comfy and supportive than the seats in the scout. The styling of the Fabia 2 is tepid, but the vast majority of Fabia's sold are to the pipe and slipper brigade or mum's for shopping wagons so you can see Skoda's reasoning behind it. I remember my Mk1 vRS as having soft touch plastics everywhere and the only bit of cheap nasty scratchy plastic was the glove box lid. the whole dash on my Roomster was itchy and scratchy ching chong bing bong stuff.

Of the skoda's I have owned, the best screwed together in my experience, not just my opinion, is the current Mk1 Superb L&K. Maybe not the best engineered as it's a stretched / rebadged passat B5.5, but it is screwed together exceptionally well and the interior has a solid quality feel without any scratchy plastics on display, even the dash facia is made from alloy instead of plastic (then coated in hideous dark wood :))

The best handling of the cars btw was the Roomster, and my Mk2 vRS had FSD's / Eibachs / neuspeed ARB's and a Peloquin ATB, but my lowered / arb'd roomster handled better.

For me, as a styling exercise the Mk2 Fabia just fails, it's a Suzuki Swift that has been squished in a vice from the sides to make it taller. One thing that I have absolutely now doubt over however is that the Mk2 Fabia vRS will be a far better drive than the mk1, as mentioned, less weight over the nose, 7 speed DSG and a cracking petrol engine. It should be a great little car to drive.

Also to help in my opinions, my father in law declined a fabia 2 in favour of a Fiesta 1.6tdci, he thought the fabia looked tall and ungainly, but my dad recently bought a Fabia 3 1.4TDi and he loves it.......

All horses for courses

Well, I don't like the Mk.2 Fabia. My previous car was a horse. The handling was exceptional and it took fences a lot better than the new Fabia. Plus, I could ride the whole day on a couple of bales of hay. The upholstery is natural leather, which is just as good now as it was when I bought it. And of course, the drivers seat was heated at no extra cost. There are no plasticky bits - only one metal bit. Servicing was always free when I left it in a paddock with a stallion. I must admit, the suspension was a bit stiff, but it was a cabrio after all. And the emissions would probably not meet today's spec, but they could be ploughed back into business.
