Phone Mount for Octavia II

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've just got the excellent Copilot Live sat-nav app for my HTC Hero (which, for £25, is an absolute bargain by the way!)

The only problem is I've got no where to put it so I can see it while I'm driving!!!

I really hate ugly, tacky phone mounts that don't fit with the rest of the interior, so I'm after the least intrusive one... but they all seem to have downsides.

  • There are 1000's of window-sucker style ones on ebay, which would be OK, but how well do these stick (i.e. don't want it falling off) and I'd rather not have the annoying ring left on the windscreen when it's not in use.
  • There are also generic air-vent ones, but I'm not sure if these will fit the Octavia air vents, or whether it might end up putting stress on the brilliant and elegant but delicate mechanism of the air vent flaps, causing them to break.
  • Then there are 'Brodit' ones. Does anyone have one of these for the Octavia? These fit the best as they are tailored for the phone and car, but they look ugly when not in use, and they look like they may need dashboard removal and potential "damage" to fit.

What phone mount have you got and what do you think of it?

Thanks,

Andrew

I've used many of the Brodit type and have found them to fit perfectly and without any dismantling or modifications to the fascia. With the one for the Octavia you get a special 'spreader' tool to help you fit the mount without any damage. Look up Brodit ProClip 653525 on either 'Mountonus.com' or 'DSL Developments' websites for a run down on fitting, prices etc.

My Brodit mounted iPhone... No damage to the facia or dash (I've used the car specific Brodit mounts in 4 or 5 cars now)

I'm planning on hiding the cable behind the dash and finding a fused supply for it, but at the moment I've used cable ties to keep the cable tidy from the 12v socket which is down by the gearstick

I use a generic vent attaching one I got from Halfords for about £12.

I use it infrequently for Googlemaps or controlling MP3s when on my own. Rest of the time the phone is in my pocket or the jumbo box controlled via Bluetooth.

When not in use (most of the time) the mount lives in the cubby below the headlight switch. No damage to the vents yet. If I required to "see" the phone more often in the car I'd probably invest in a tailor fit solution.

Same place i have mine although i have an Adjustable Brodit mount so that i don't have to remove the Phone from the Mili Powerskin

What are those cable ties you are using? Need something like that to tidy my cable up.

They're just bog standard small cable ties wrapped round the cable and then inserted the "tail" into the gap between the main dash and trim...

Nice tip! Looks very neat.

I'd consider that if it was just for the phone, but I use GPS on the phone too, having said that, I can see a second mount being purchased soon and I think that may be in contention :)

Chris,

Have you got a photo of the back of the brodit bracket? The photos on the website look like the bracket has a big back to it?

Thanks,

Martin

I have a Brodit mounted the same as raglits. Expensive, but not flimsy and fits perfectly

I have a Brodit TomTom mount in the same location as Chris's, and find it a perfect location to use it from

I've looked on the Brodit site for that mounting but can't see it anywhere; they all seem to want to use 'Pro-Clips'. Any chance you could have a look and post a link if you can still find it, if you would be so kind, please?

Thank you :)

The proclip is the vehicle specific part. The phone specific holder then attaches to the proclip. If I remember correctly, they also do a system that allows you to swap device mounts easily rather then screwing them to the proclip.

Proclip...

Aha, thank you, looking at those picture angles it makes sense now. Very kind of you.

Cheers

thanks

Another vote for Brodit - I have 2 in my Octavia (company & personal phones)

Yep another one for brodit great mount and easy to fit

Have a look at CD phone mounts. Slots into the CD drive when needed and your phone sticks to it. When not in use just pull out.

I modded my cubby box to open the correct amount for the iPhone to slot & lock in - could be done for any phone though. Plus it's free and looks neat!!

Great idea but it would obscure the HU display on the octavia ?

Defo a brodit for me! Brilliant fit, no holes in dash. And don't bounce about like a window mount

I have used brackets from Dashmount in a few different cars. Had no probs with them.
