  • Leave it along for 2 reasons. 1. The badge is there to show that their barry'd up shed has been kicked around by a Skoda, 2. The rear wiper means you get a good view of their faces as they cry over

I'm gonna do the octavia badge and leave the rest well alone.

I shall either use dental floss or a plastic impliment and a train card under the opposite corner so as not to pivot the badge into the paint.

I'll photograph it for you all.

Other advantages too. MPG will be better as aircon isnt required. Easy access to the car interior, and you get some nice fresh air while driving your car.

Might go do this during my lunch break ;)

If you don't fancy doing the work yourself, just park the car in Alum Rock (in Birmingham for the non-Midlanders) ;)

Have to admit, I'm tempted to remove the badges... Was an option (no cost) on my previous cars that I took up... Although that was so they couldn't see I had the "bargain basement" model :)

Removed it on the fabia which throws up more muck than on octy, and I don't miss my wiper. When I get it back I plan to seal the rear screen with something which will repel muck really well. Thinking about using Collinite 476s actually - maybe like 3 or 4 layers. :)

Well i just did mine.

Looks good I think. Still happy you did it? :)

Might do mine tomorrow. Already gotten rid of dealer sticker, tax disc holder and the pointless security stickers on the rear windows.

Also considering removing my standard coloured briskoda sticker from the back window to clean the look a bit more still, but I'd leave the white briskoda.net lettering where it is on the front of the drivers door strip.

I don't think PE4 will work very well. Yes it will remove it, along with the rear 3/4 of the car emoticon-0140-rofl.gifemoticon-0140-rofl.gif

Lol yeah, you would need some mean shaped charges :)

Leave well alone! IMHO looks pants without badges or wiper.

And as far as removing the wiper goes, I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this. The wiper has been provided by the manufacturer to improve rearward visibility in poor weather. If you remove it, and later have an accident, the insurance could turn round and say you've deliberately removed a safety item, and could play silly sods when it comes to a claim.

I know the components you're talking about are very different, but if the insurance wanted to be awkward, this could be compared to removing an airbag or other important item.

Mike

I totally agree with you!!

However the same could be applied to other mods....It needs declaring

I still dont understand why? Insurance company office will probably ask this too

Because it looks better?

To who?

Removing the car's funtionality for cosmetic reasons is ridiculous IMO

Looks good I think. Still happy you did it? :)

Yup. I see the rear of the car everytime i open the curtains in the morning and this morning i thought "that looks good actually"

I do like a nice rear end though ;)

Carl

IMO the estate looks like its been rear end shunted and the owner too tight to get it fully repaired.

That wouldn't be a problem. They will just say "OK, that's fine, it's noted", just like they did with spacers, etc. They said they would cover 19" Bentley splits at no extra cost.

Don't forget that several recent or current hatchbacks haven't had rear wipers at all - Audi A2, Honda Civc off the top of my head.

Might do mine tomorrow.

So did you Nick?

I do like a nice rear end though ;)

I'd personally rather debadge than put a facelift badge on a pre-facelift model, but each to their own :)

It looks Sooooooo much better with the Fl badges.

As for taking the wiper off - don't. Those of you who say you don't need it must not be looking out in your rear view mirror very often. I would say its a necessary safety measure. To be honest its not even noticable on the car so why remove it?!

IYO ;)

4 pages on and we still don't know what Nick has decided to do :dull:

Just removed thye octavia badge from my new RS Estate. Looks so much nicer. The Octavia letters do look naf. I will be leaving the RS badge as well as the Skoda badge. The wiper, that is just sillyness imo. You need it on the estate, not so much on the hatch.

my octy badge has now gone.

simples

bit of dental floss and a sawing action got them all off safely

Then used my fingers to get the sticky stuff off

followed by a bit of polish and a buff

Looks great.

Ordered one of these today.

That's smart that is

A lot better than the bung option.

How have you found it without the rear wiper?

  • Author

Still got it on at the moment. I was never convinced about the plastic bung look. I was chatting to vrs_Si last night and he reminded me that he'd had one of these on his car. It works a lot better as you get the same reflection as the surrounding glass..

I've seen it suggested that you could use a windscreen chip repair kit to smooth the join around it too.

That looks a lot better

I do like the look on mine but the bung is a little annoying.
