New VRS 2.0 tfsi - Rattling noise

Featured Replies

Is there an official Skoda "incident number" for this yet?

I haven't tried my dealer but don't know how I'll get on.

Staggering! Diagnosis = nothing "serious" yet they don't know what it is and will only know if the try another one!!! Wow!!! Good job they aren't doctors! Can you imagine it. "Well i've no idea wh

  • nothing odd about it. its a characteristic of the tsi engine. happens across all the VwAG engines. there r thousands of threads out there with mk6 golf gti owners complaining of the same "rattle"

  • Wastegate linkage rattle as mentioned earlier in the thread. You need clip 06J145220A fitting to the linkage. Two minute job (from under the car)

Stoofa, I'll ask when mine goes in for the fix on Monday.

My dealer did say that Skoda would be issuing a technical bulletin in the New Year.

Or your dealer could call Palmers Skoda in Watford & ask to speak to Doug!

Here is the part number; 06J145220A

This is the TSB from the US for the mk6 GTI; TSB # 21-11-03

Either way, use the part number !!

i can't wait to get my hands on that so i can tell skoda aus to get off their back side n get this "normal feature" of the engine fixed!!

My car has almost hit 13k miles - don't know when the first service will flash up but I plan on asking for this fix at the same time.

I'll quote the part number if an official bulletin hasn't been released by then.

Dropped the vRS off this morning.

Fingers crossed there's no more rattling / buzzing when I pick it up this afternoon!!

I'll also ask for the 'incident' number when I pick up.

Okay guys, work complete. Car accelerates through the 2500 revs range with no rattle. Very pleased so far!

Not yet tested to my total satisfaction as it was busy (lots of traffic noise) & I didn't have room to accelerate more than two or three times.

So far so good though. Will report back fully soon.

Skoda's report read: Carried out TPI & fitted clip to turbo rod as required.

TPI no. (Stoofa!) is 2028098/1.

Cheers,

Dunc.

is that a "Skoda issued" TPI?

cause skoda aus here doesn't want to accept the "vw issued" tpi!

As far as I'm aware, yes it is!

I believe the clip was sourced from VW though.

You should ask your dealer to call mine - Palmers, Watford - and ask to speak to Doug! (time zones permitting)

Good luck!

Excellent!!! :)

BTW - What does TPI stand for?

Just so I can sound even more impressive when I contact the dealership.

Funnily enough, I asked the lady at the desk the same thing! She smiled very sweetly, and didn't answer!

Someone on here will know. Either way, you should be sorted come service time!

It's great to accelerate rattle free!!

Good to hear Dunc69 - its nice to be rattle free !

As far as the TPI - I can ask the dealers here, but its in the Netherlands and not knowing its the same around the world :(

Thanks! Makes such a positive difference to the car!

TPI = Test Process Improvement.

I think. Based on a few minutes on the web. Would make sense in these circumstances.

Seems the phrase (acronym) is used in VAG circles.

Finally had a chance yesterday to properly test the fix.

It works! During hard acceleration there isn't the slightest rattle! Gave it a thorough work out last night and it is so nice not to hear the rattle coming in every time the revs push through the 2500 mark. It just feels more solid / quality as a result.

If you have a petrol vRS TSI, get this done! It's free ! You will love the result.

Happy Christmas everyone!

Cheers,

Dunc

Morning all

Sorry to resurrect this thread but just wanted to say I had my car serviced yesterday at Progress Skoda in Letchworth. When I booked it in I quoted the TPI number in this thread and asked them to carry out the same work on my car. They did this no questions asked and I am now driving around with a rattle-free car.

Although I cannot say the noise has ever bothered me too much (apart from in the summer with the windows open), I have to say now that the noise has gone, I realise how intrusive it was. Now lovely and quiet accelerating through the lower rev range.

Thanks to Dunc for the TPI number.

Just as another note, I also had the Bolero updated to the latest Firmware to resolve the slow SD Card access and it is now working as expected. The garage did say there was no update to my stereo to resolve problems with reading SD Cards, but after looking through another thread on Briskoda, I found the issue is logged on the Skoda system as 'problems with Curve'. No idea what that means but it fixed my particular issue so I am well pleased.

Whatever did we do before the internet.. :)

Chris

Chris, very pleased to hear about your rattle fix. Hopefully others can benefit too.

Really improves the car!

Cheers.

I have 800 miles til my first service, so gonna book the car in soon. Will email Skoda in Newport first with that number to see if they will carry out the work. Will let you all know the answer, and thanks to the guys who have put in the hours to sort this, much appreciated!!

Steve

am I the only person to like this rattle? reminds me of my twin spark alfa :)

There's a full page article about this on page 168 of this month's issue of WhatCar? Many thanks to the magazine's Helpdesk. Without them we wouldn't have had a result.

I just read this too, was it you the article was referring to romulus?

Yes it was. Celebrity at last!

Result, let's hope Skoda introduce the clip as this will finally be an admission that it isn't a characteristic of the engine!

Chris,

I have also had problems with slow SD card access but the service manager at my local dealer says that he has no record of any updates. I'll quote your comment to him and see what he says.

Evening,

Car was booked in today to have engine rattle looked at, told the service manager all the info I had from here and after they had checked tpi the clip has been ordered.

Thank you all for your help,

Chris
