New VRS 2.0 tfsi - Rattling noise

Featured Replies

So far my fix is fine. Absolutely no rattle. Driven pretty hard on occasion too!

Fingers crossed it stays that way!

Romulus, good luck getting it sorted..........

Thanks. Glad to hear that the fix has worked for you and others on this thread.

Staggering! Diagnosis = nothing "serious" yet they don't know what it is and will only know if the try another one!!! Wow!!! Good job they aren't doctors! Can you imagine it. "Well i've no idea wh

  • nothing odd about it. its a characteristic of the tsi engine. happens across all the VwAG engines. there r thousands of threads out there with mk6 golf gti owners complaining of the same "rattle"

  • Wastegate linkage rattle as mentioned earlier in the thread. You need clip 06J145220A fitting to the linkage. Two minute job (from under the car)

Thanks. Glad to hear that the fix has worked for you and others on this thread.

Sounds like a new clip will be the way forward. Cheers.

Is it just me? A spring clip on the actuator rod will surely give wear issues somewhere down the line?

I think forge are making adjustable actuators for the tsi ihi now?

the spot weld on one of my exhaust tips has broken, this make a rattling noise,a bit like an m3 bimmer :)

Just got my car back from getting the clip fitted and there is no difference at all, I kind of expected some change, is there a way to check it is in place ??

Just found this ..... http://golfmk6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20401

You have a TSI with DSG ?

Or do you have the TFSI like your sig says.. ?

Time to bump this thread for no reason other than.....

My car had first service yesterday/today and at the same time the clip was fitted and the 1900rpm - 2900rpm rattle has now totally vanished.

Anyone not had it done - go to Skoda, quote the TPI. It will come back as:

Alarming noise from engine compartment between 1900rpm and 2900rpm

Free fix and all the noise goes away!

Mine went in in January, had clip fitted, still rattled for a little afterwards but now silent.

Possible it takes a while to settle in and find its own position, but all good here

I've just come across this thread and realised I also have this rattle, kind of liked it! Seeing that it actually isn't supposed to be there I will be chasing up Letchworth Skoda tomorrow about this. Anyone know if I can use a different dealer to the one I bought from as I don't fancy a drive to Birmingham from Herts to get this fixed?

Has anyone given their rod a rattle to see if it does make a noise? (not in public of course) lol

Well, I went into Letchworth Skoda today and reported the rattle noise ( sounding like I knew what I was talking about ) quoted the numbers guys had put on here , result-- booked in for next week to have the clip fitted. Nice bunch of guys over at progress very helpful and know there stuff which makes a difference to my previous car dealers ( begins with a V and ends in a hall ) and even had a little play with the fabia vrs and monte Carlo-very nice!! A massive thanks to the guys on here for their knowledge and for pushing this matter up to Skoda uk as I'm sure there's still plenty like me that thought it was normal and still driving around with the " rattle " Can't believe I didn't come on this site before seen as I've owned Skoda for 6 years!!!!

Update-- car went in for clip fit today, one hour job done-no more rattles and they also cleaned and hoovered it for me too!!! Can't be faulted in my opinion.

Just found and read this entire post with interest, my 2010 Vrs does exactly this, (as pointed out by my wife - 4 months into ownership) and at the time I thought I had somehow damaged the engine or something, "worried" glances between me and the wife (who would have much prefered me to get a Ford Focus)!.

So relieved to read this post, and get an explanation for it.

Light metalic rattle, only happens under mid to heavy acceleration from approx 2.3-3k rpm. then "normal engine" again, but no power loss.

If its not doing any damage and its normal, then I guess I am not too bothered about it, but my only concern would be when it comes to sell it on, a garage or a private buyer might think its something more serious and give me a problem selling / affect the re-sale value.

I will wait for my next service to see if I get it "fixed" or not, (I also need the Bolero sterio SD card fix - take AGES...to read the card / change folder.. :( )

Romulus, I assume that you will at some point take it to be be fixed again? If so, please let us know how you get on.

Took the car into Faintree garage in April when the buzzing noise returned after the clip had been fitted. The cause was a loose fuel pipe, which was fixed under warranty. The noise has now gone - which makes me wonder if this was the problem all along. Never mind. I've had the clip fitted and so there shouldn't be any future problems with a buzzing wastegate actuator.

I doubt that was the original problem! The wastegate was clearly vibrating on all TSIs.

Re-read how many have had it fixed by the clip thanks to this thread!

Reporting another successful fix of the 2.0TSI rattle in a brand new Octavia vRS in Poland. Thanks for the TPI and part number, helped a lot! Great to drive without the noise :)

Just to add thanks to this thread mine was fixed earlier this year. ;)

+1 mine done just recently

Ok my car is in for a service today at Redditch Skoda, I have given them the TPI and part numbers quoted earlier on in this thread hoping that this would be sufficient to ge the rattle fixed.

However a few hours later have recieved a call from the service manager stating that this fix does not apply to my car as it has an electronic turbo?

It's a 2010 2.0 VRS...seems like others here have had this issue fixed with similar aged cars? And my symptoms fit perfectly...Anyone have a good tel number for Skoda that I can call them on directly to discuss this with?

Phew just spoke to John one the the mechanics who told me that ...my car DOES qualify for the clip but I will need to book it in again. Wish that has been communicated sooner to spare confusion..but there you go. I will post back once the job is complete to see if it cures the problem for me.

Hope it works for you. Had mine done a year or so ago (somewhere back in this thread) and it is still rattle free!

Rather than go through the hassle of booking my car in at the dealers, for them to tell me I have to come back after they order a clip, and then letting one of their fitters loose on my car, I bought the clip and fitted it myself (£14.46).

Another one now rattle free, although it didn't really bother me too much. If you drive the DSG 'normally' it changes at 2000 revs so it didn't rattle anyway.

Hi guys, thought you might like an update on this.

I recently purchased a FL TSI vRS and it is absolutely spot on apart from the annoying rattle under load between 2000 and 3000 rpm which I can only assume is the infamous waste-gate rattle.

I rang up Simpsons Skoda today and quoted the TPI number 2028098/1, however, got a call back after a few hours saying the number was invalid. After speak to the master technician at Simpsons and explaining the issue, he found the TPI number which was 2028098/2 (notice the changed number from a 1 to a 2). Car is booked in this week, shall let you know how it goes.

Apart form that, the car is fantastic!

Excellent update.

The car will be even better when rattle free.

My car is booked in for its first service next week. I identified this rattle soon after getting it and this thread pointed that it was probably nothing to worry about.

But time to get it fixed hopefully, listed the symptoms. here's hoping it is this

Hi,

I have a similar issue with my Skoda Octavia 2012 VRS Estate TSI 2.0 DSG

However, looking at some videos of this issue on YouTube, it seems that the issue should be reproducible when the car is stationary.

My rattle happens at around 2.5k revs just before the DSG box changes up a gear but doesn't do it when rev testing parked on the drive. Started a year ago when coming back from a long trip to France. Oddly, it doesn't seem to do it when the DSG box is in sport mode (although could be that it just powers through the 2.5k rev zone too quickly to notice it)

Any ideas?

Thanks
