Staggering! Diagnosis = nothing "serious" yet they don't know what it is and will only know if the try another one!!! Wow!!! Good job they aren't doctors! Can you imagine it. "Well i've no idea wh

  • nothing odd about it. its a characteristic of the tsi engine. happens across all the VwAG engines. there r thousands of threads out there with mk6 golf gti owners complaining of the same "rattle"

  • Wastegate linkage rattle as mentioned earlier in the thread. You need clip 06J145220A fitting to the linkage. Two minute job (from under the car)

Which Dealer was this Chris?

Hedge,

City Skoda in Basingstoke, very impressed so far, taking it back in tomorrow morning to have the clip fitted after diagnosis and ordering today.

I also have a loud ticking sound at tick over that they will check again after the clip has been fitted, they have mentioned it might just be the high pressure of the fuel system, anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

Chris

Clip has been fitted and no more rattle

Thank you for the information in this post and for Beadles for fitting the part.

Another happy 'Rattle Free' TSI owner! So glad we all pushed this. Mine has been great ever since!

As has been said before: ' The Power of Briskoda!'

Cheers Chris. Yes loud ticking noise could just be the fuel pump.

So car had the clip fitted today, rattle completely gone, what a difference.

Fitted at City Skoda in Basingstoke who were brilliant, would definitely recommend.

Thank you all again.

Chris

Mine going in next Monday, 1st Service and asked them to fit the clip. Also asked them to check the passenger door seal, lots of wind noise st speed.

Will report back on Monday night

Ok, mine has now been in and had the clip fitted. (Thanks for TPI and part numbers as my dealer looked at me as if I was from Mars....)

Only drove it home last night and to work this morning, still sure I heard a rattle or two, but not as bad as it was. Perhaps it will take a little while to find its position to stop completely.

I'll let you know in a few days if things have changed.

Cheers

I have viewed this thread from the beginning and I have to say hand on heart I have no idea what this rattle noise is, SWMBO's Vrs must be the only car without it...No rattle on idle, no rattle on acceleration (mild or hard) and no rattle on cruising.....So can't say I will be hassling the delear...

Between 2k and 3k under acceleration.

Indeed - must be the only one without it, although I'd love to hear from anyone else who cannot hear it.

Must be my age but can't hear a thing, mind you I'm only a part time driver of the car, but every time I do I try and tell myself, yes, there's that noise, but no....

Might be something to do with you having a Diseasel car as this only affects petrol TSi's.

Either that or you need to change your car info: Octavia 2.0 TDI CR DSG Estate :giggle:

Got mine booked in for 17 Feb as i'm having cold start issues (misfiring quite badly). They had no idea what i was talking about however when i said the TPI the woman just said no problem she will raise the TPI and attach it to my job card. She was thankful for the part no. as well.

So will see how it goes on the 17th and if they actually fit it.

Cheers

Carl

Still waiting for my service light to come on so I can get that and the clip done at the same time.

Don't get me wrong - happy to wait for the service, expense I'd rather not have.

But I'm fast approaching 15k miles so can't be long now.

I don't have it either. 13k covered. Unless it's the vibration that I get sometimes from dash area when under load between 1500 and 2000 revs....hardly noticeable though.

As I said it's SWMBO's car, I do indeed have a diesel and she indeed does have the petrol, I also said I was a part time driver of the car, that really should have given it away....

My bad :p

You just need your ears testing then

Had the part fitted today at Faintree Skoda, brilliant service, and the clip does silence the rattling noise, its a welcome improvement for the anticipation of summer driving.

Had my clip fitted today at Winchester Skoda. Thanks for the info

For info - TPI stands for Technical Part Information as it was written across the instructions for the Technician that i saw today.

Had the clip fitted by Faintree Garage in November - by which time the buzzing noise had stopped. It started again on Saturday but now it's worse than before. It was about this time last year that I first noticed the noise but in October it stopped. Very strange.

a few lads over in the vw golf gti camp have reported the same - noise has come back louder & worse than before.

some haven't had it come back, though it remains.....ever so faintly.

makes me think twice about persuing this.

if i want this fixed, i need to convince vw australia. they look after skoda warranty claims here. sofar i've had no luck convincing them that the rattle in the gti is the same as rattle in the rs. they don't understand that both the gti & the rs have the same ea888 (ccz) engine.

considering the hassle vw is giving, and the reports from owners who've had it fitted for a few months atleast - i'm might give this a miss afterall.

Just found and read this entire post with interest, my 2010 Vrs does exactly this, (as pointed out by my wife - 4 months into ownership) and at the time I thought I had somehow damaged the engine or something, "worried" glances between me and the wife (who would have much prefered me to get a Ford Focus)!.

So relieved to read this post, and get an explanation for it.

Light metalic rattle, only happens under mid to heavy acceleration from approx 2.3-3k rpm. then "normal engine" again, but no power loss.

If its not doing any damage and its normal, then I guess I am not too bothered about it, but my only concern would be when it comes to sell it on, a garage or a private buyer might think its something more serious and give me a problem selling / affect the re-sale value.

I will wait for my next service to see if I get it "fixed" or not, (I also need the Bolero sterio SD card fix - take AGES...to read the card / change folder.. :( )

Romulus, I assume that you will at some point take it to be be fixed again? If so, please let us know how you get on.

So far my fix is fine. Absolutely no rattle. Driven pretty hard on occasion too!

Fingers crossed it stays that way!

Romulus, good luck getting it sorted..........

Yes, I seem to remember that in some cases the fix hadn't worked for Golf owners. I think it was because the first batch of clips was faulty. Maybe mine was one. But it seems that in most cases the fix works so I think the matter is worth pursuing.

I have booked the car in at Faintree Garage on Friday 4th May. I shall be asking them to change the clip. I hope that this produces a result as the noise is very noticeable and not something I'm prepared to put up with.

I don't think the noise can be regarded as normal. After all, it was enough to produce thousands of complaints on US websites - and quite a few on here as well.

Will keep everyone updated.
