our yeti given to somebody else

Featured Replies

Hi all Yeti owners,

feeling down as we went to pick up our monster today just to find out they messed up the plates and gave our Yeti to someone else :'( and we left empty handed !!!

So somebody else has been driving our car since Saturday.

We don't know how to deal with this. Any idea??? Would be interested to know what other people think about it.

We were so excited to have our first new car...but it's not really new anymore (if you know what I mean)...

don't know how to express my dissapointment :(

Thx for reading

NN

What a balls up!

Do you still want the actual car that is now no longer new, or do you want another new one to be ordered for you?

So someone is potentially running round in a car that was registered with your insurance details!! MAJOR COOK -UP!!

The dealer needs to sort that out very quickly, plus since they have broken their contract with you, then you could sue them, so they had better make you a good offer in compensation.

Name and shame so none of us potential owners get caught in the same way (even by PM if you don't want to make it public)

The Vin number on the other yeti will not match to the plates and V5, so technically the dealer needs to sort the balls up fast.

First thing to do is seek legal advice, CAB, privately or otherwise. The supplying dealer has some major grovelling to do to make good a **** up like this.

Well we can't afford to wait another 10-12 weeks for a new one, so we have to deal with the situation as it is...

What would you consider as a good deal then?

We were offered Gard X protection free, which is even something we didn't want. :S

Help pleaseeeeeeeeeeeee

Presumably the people who've been given your car had also ordered a Yeti...same colour/spec as yours? Does that mean their Yeti is somewhere in the pipeline?

John

Think it through.

Is the other poor soul on this forum?

Anyone in the Surrey area picked up their Yeti last Saturday? Check your logbook VIN etc.

The dealer will now have two p***** off customers!

If the dealer offers you the original car (if he can prise it out of the hands of the other customer) then the compensation should be the difference between the new price and the secondhand price. It is certainly worth more than any paint treatment.

If they have to re-order your car then a loan Yeti till your new one arrives should be the minimum they offer you. If they don't have one they should get/buy one.

Just some ideas.

yep, that one was also delivered, but apparently we can't have it as it doesn't match the paperwork as we used a scrappage scheme :o

if they swap it round so that you get the original car then it is now second hand, and depending on mileage done by the other individual, the initial depreciation for it being second hand should be refunded to you as a minimum, definitly seek legal advise, contact skoda uk, as surely they dont want dealers in their network that are so incompetent to of made such a mistake!

Then it seems like the dealer has a lot to answer for.

Can the scrappage paper-work be changed? I think they should be pushed to sort it to get your new car for you.

If you do have to take back the original car then I think as others have said, there must be a significant financial settlement.

Why not contact your local Trading Standards office?

Thinking back to the last new car bought (my Yeti was an ex demonstrator), the salesman was ultra careful over checking that numbers matched. This is really poor.

Who is the dealer?

John

If your sale was through the Scrappage scheme, then the least the dealer "owes" you is that amount. Plus he is going to have to take your current car off you so he can get his money back from VOSA.

Are you a member of a motoring organisation like AA, RAC, or CSMA, or does your house insurance have a legal help line? Would be worth talking to them.

I’m so sorry to hear of your woes. I can imagine the shine has been well and truly taken off you new purchase, regardless of the outcome. Although you every right to be annoyed, I wonder if the dealer made a genuine error. It is a very busy time for dealers with the new reg and perhaps it was an honest mistake, not one of real negligence. I know that doesn’t help you, but hopefully the dealer will recognise their mistake and make the whole thing right for you.

The only real way through this is to communicate communicate communicate with the dealer directly. Firstly the actual salesman, and then the sales manager, and if you don't get any joy there, escalate it to the general manager or the Managing Director of the Company.

They must be obligated to make it good, and you should be able to negotiate some sort of decent settlement. As Lady E says, it could be a genuine human error situation - and we all make those at times. If it is, I bet there is one very unhappy salesman at your dealership who wishes the ground would swallow him up.

I think that the best course of action is to keep as calm as possible whilst making sure you get what is fair and proper in the true circumstances.

THEN, if stubbornness creeps in, you could suggest that the What Car magazine might like to hear about it!! But only at a last resort! Nobody likes these situations and everyone will want to get it sorted in the fairest way they can.

Good luck (and keep your cool).

Excellent advice. The last thing needed is for the red mist to come down!

I think the point about the salesman is a good one, he/she is probably crapping his/herself as not only have they to sort your problem but they have to go back to the other people and tell them they've made a mistake.

John

I bought an ex - demo Yeti myself and am expremely pleased. I avoided the queue for new and saved a few thousand as well.

I'd ask for the car to be claimed back and then correctly delivered A cheque should also be forthcoming from the dealer representing the difference between new and ex demo prices. Failing that, get the dealer to provide a courtesy car until your shiny new one arrives.

Don't settle for the simple paint treatment - that would be an easy get out for something that is surely down to more than just the salesman.

Look out for the next thread from a disgruntled Surrey owner who has to return his new pride and joy. In anticipation, perhaps Skoda UK could provide him/she with one of their press fleet until their new one arrives.

Whilst not wishing to encourage the milking of a situation, depending on how they play it, this scenario could either come out well for Skoda or quite badly.

Best of luck and let us know what happens.

If you would be happy with the other Yeti, then I would suggest to the dealer that they give that Yeti to you, and the dealer should take the loss (£2000) through not being able to use the scrappage scheme.

Thanks to all of you for your views. I really appreciate it. It's nice to have such a great support when you not sure what to do!

As per the salesman, he is ever so nice and genuine person, which makes it even more difficult to deal with it :wonder:

Just spoke to him and feel horrible afterwards. Blaming the hormonoes as I'm 9mths pregnant and this is honestly the last thing I want to deal with now...

We asked for a settlement in a way we feel should be satisfactory for both sides and waiting for them to come back to me as it needs to be discussed with the manager who's not currently around.

Will keep you all posted

Thx again

If it was me - and I know its easy to comment and be calm when its not! - I would consider two options:

1. If the car has been registered in the other persons name and you would then become the second owner on the V5 I would be looking for financial compensation along the lines of it being a pre-reg or used car.

2. If you are going to be the first and only owner on the V5 then its more about compensation for what seems to be a genuine error. The paint protection probably costs the dealer £30 - I bought my own SupaGuard off ebay once and applied it myself, dead simple. So not a great offer. If the car is a keeper what about a 3 year servicing deal or something similar?

Hopefully this will be resolved to your satisfaction. One thing I would do however is insist on a full valet before I even look at the car and then check it over as you would a new one, making sure that no accessories etc are missing and that the condition is 100%

Thanks

Simon

Hey niknak

So sad to hear your unfortunate news.

We have a January 2010 2.0 TDI 170 bhp 4WD Steel Grey Metallic with just over 500 miles on the clock that we could offer to you through your dealer if your dealer could provide us with a suitable 4WD Superb. and of course compensation to you and the right exchange price for us.

That's exaclty what we aimed for - 3 years free servicing and maitenance, but they prefer not to go that way :o

Instead we were offered a new car to be ordered for us and we keep the one which they delivered for us in the meantime. Not sure how it goes with regards to insurance etc though, have to speak to them first. & find out.

Hope it's over soon, had enough stress already...

I'd demand a new car to be honest...

But if you have to keep it... 5 years complete maintenance package (the one that includes bulbs, wipers, tyres, brakes etc as well as servicing) for free seems good.

But how long will it take Skoda to find the new one and will it mean that another customer down the line is disappointed by a delayed delivery that would in a fair trading situation be a breach of contract.

So basically, it's a 10-12 week delay on your car, with an identical car as a courtesy vehicle in the meantime.

I suppose you can put nearly a quarter of your annual mileage onto the original vehicle then hand it back, your first service will be 10-12 weeks further away etc. All of that carries a small benefit I guess.

What sort of comepensation would people expect if the garage informed you of a 10-12 week delay?

all settled & hopefully no more stress :(

not sure whether I can call it a courtesy car as we are the owners, but should have our NEW car with the same spec hopefully within 10-12wks

so I have to put an insurance on it. any idea whether insurance companies mind when you transfer the insurance on another car with the same spec but different number plate? would they charge me for it?

also not sure what happens should there occur some minor scratches or dents from other cars (i.e. at a car park)???

hope everythings go smoothly from now on
