May I just do a bit of blatant advertising here? Not for me but for an ex-colleague who runs what must be one of the UK's most down-to-earth internet businesses. Cheers for the info Big K :)

One last question for you - do the "flick" keys all have a button for boot release on them, or are there "2 button editions" available...?

I've got the flick key with 2 buttons... Lock and unlock. This is for the vRS.

I like the electronic boot release. I don't think I have EVER used the lever by the driver's seat, only the fuel cap one (obviously). The boot makes a nice reassuring "clump" when you just flick the button. It also shuts well, needing barely any force needed to shut the mechanism again. 10/10 for Skoda on that feature.

I have the comfort trim, and I'm not aware of what work would be needed to get my car on r/c/l. I imagine a fair bit as I'd need the full works doing.

Hmmmm... mine's comfort trim and has r/c/l...

Will ask at the dealers next time I'm down that way, see how much they'd charge for a key :)

Did it come from the dealer with r/c/l? I think it was only an after-market accessory for me

2 different remote one with boot button one without.

how old is your comfort devon ?

It's a very late Y reg - July 01. I got it just before the 51s came out

jason then it should have 2 remote keys with it then did u have this new?

Yep, from new - But no remote keys at all. Should my year have come with r/c/l? I may ask the dealer about this one - perhaps it was some kind of anomoly why they didn't fit it to my car... :(

Jason. I don't have the remote locking on mine as standard. Mine is also a 2001 Comfort model. I got remote locking now as I have a Toad alarm fitted.

Would be interested in the flick keys though if that is possible! :p

Hello Big K,

You posted a howto in response to a post by Tavia4x4.

Do you know if this is a method to use when one purchases a remote BKA 400001 in the Accessories catalogue for a Fabia 16V Comfort with key operated central locking?

many thanks

Apparently, with both keys, you can reset it...

Place one key in the ignition, and turn the ignition on (don't think you have to start the engine).

Then, get out and close the door, and hold the other remote lock button for more than 6 seconds....

it should pick up the code eventually, then repeat for unlock...

not tried it myself, but thats what I've been told.

;)

Hmm, that last bit K, which key should you be pressing lock \ unlock on? the one in the door or the one in the ign?

And which is the one you are encoding?

My Superb has the flickin key, with 3 buttons (lock, unlock and boot release). My VW Transporter (which has factory fitted central locking) also has the flick key, but with 2 buttons. Seeing as so far my van key has broke twice ( the metal ring cracks and breaks open), and seeing as you can only configure 5 KEYS to the vehicle, I would advise anybody NOT to change to the flick key.

Working the maths, you will notice that so far I have used 4 of the 5 keys (the 2 that came with the vehicle and the 2 replacements, of which they only replace the head of the key not the actual key itself) you will see that I must hope I dont break anymore during the next 2/3 years (only nearly 1 so far).

Personally stick with the normal type key, its a safer and more cost effective option.

Cheers

Andy

i would double check that the fact that you can only program 5 keys to the immobilser and that's it with skoda's you can program keys as many times as you like and can have up to 5 keys programed at one given time !

and if they only changed the head (remote part of the key) surley this only affects the locking and not the immobiliser ?

Not accoding to my VW dealership you cant (applies to their cars and vans), it is all to do with the immobiliser aparently.

Feel free to dig and correct me if I,m wrong tho, although my previously stated opinion on these keys remains.

Cheers

Andy

i think they may got it mixed up with only 5 keys at once that's presuming they use same system as skoda's (which i would think so) perhaps skodaw can enlighten us!
