Keys...

Featured Replies

Another key-related question here - have heard from various Golf and Leon owners that they can use their flickblade keys for remote front window opening, along with the doors itself. This can be done by keeping the unlock button pressed for a few seconds - very nifty if the car is parked in the sun and you want the wind to breeze through before you get in and have the climate control do the rest.

Point is, I have the same key but the trick doesn't work on the Octy. Is this Skoda being VAG's ugly duckling again?

The Skoda key does have this feature but you have to do things the old fashioned way. Put your Key in the lock. Turn it to unlock the car but hold it turned for a second or 2 and all the windows will descend. reverse the process and all the windows go back up.

Great little feature. Practical and tartey at the same time!

By the way I have a flick key and its a pain. All your mates insist on playing with it in the pub!

My Superb has the flickin key, with 3 buttons (lock, unlock and boot release). My VW Transporter (which has factory fitted central locking) also has the flick key, but with 2 buttons. Seeing as so far my van key has broke twice ( the metal ring cracks and breaks open), and seeing as you can only configure 5 KEYS to the vehicle, I would advise anybody NOT to change to the flick key.

Cheers

Andy see with the flick key do you mean the bit that is chrome and holds the key rings. If so I also have this problem with my Fabia flick key. What did you do about it?

I had to have the head of the key (the bit with that silly chrome ring) replaced as nothing would repair it, not superglue, araldite, or anything else I could think of.

Now what's the point in that? It would be really clever if it worked on the remote button - car gets a cool breeze while you are still walking towards it - but this?

I know that you have a remote for your TV, Mattijs, but for your oven/washing machine/tumble dryer/vacuum cleaner etc too so that they can be switched on before you get to them? What's the big deal about having to walk up to a car and then being able to open all 4 windows at the turn of a key? Heat been getting to you - like it did to me in Holland recently? Forgotten its a Skoda we are talking about?

Yep, I've had a broken Key for about 6 months and I can't be bothered to get it replaced as I think that could cost me lots! I have also tried every type of glue too and I can't stick it back down either!

If you want it from the remote you need to fit the Alientech or similar - see under Links.

Don't talk about keys around me, damn mumble barrel still being built in Cz... grr, mutter, have to walk around to passenger side to unlock & lock! grr mutter mumble! No remote. grr! :D

i think they may got it mixed up with only 5 keys at once that's presuming they use same system as skoda's (which i would think so) perhaps skodaw can enlighten us!

The maximum number of keys at any one time is 5 -- but all that would happen if you tried to code number 6 - is that it would take the place of one of the original 5.

You have 1 master key(as far as the car is concerned)plus upto 4 slave keys - it doesn't matter which you use - as any key can be programmed to be master(key posistion when coded)

The central locking system & immobiliser system is the same throughout VAG -- proof of that is that the new A8 uses the Skoda Superb 3 button key! - apparently they wanted something different to the normal Audi key without going to the expense of designing/making another one!!

The only exception to the above rule is prior '98 models which use a different system - which does have a limit to number of keys - but I believe that was 4 plus emergency plastic key(which doesnt count as they are totally useless!)

Yes, I guess I completely forgot it's still a Skoda! One tends to overlook the fact with a 4x4 Elegance packed with goodies. ;)

BTW, you have just experienced the two hottest weeks ever recorded in Holland. Some timing! How did you survive them?

As a matter of fact, we are now in an official drought period - last drop of rain came down over a month ago. Imagine using "Holland" and "drought" in the same sentence without "lack of" also being part of it...
