After having a bit of trouble with my previous upgrade phones - Desire - Galaxy - Nexus and now finally another Desire, I'm happy that I've got a worker!

However, there is one thing that other Desire users might be able to help out with as I'm not too sure if one of my settings is wrong.

It relates to being able to see your Picasa picture gallery from within the gallery app. On the previous Galaxy & Nexus I could see all my online pictures from within the gallery but on the Desire it just shows what you've taken on the phone. I didn't even know that the online content was available like that but now I've seen it, I want it back. :giggle:

Can anyone help out by checking to see if they've got Picasa (Google photos) access available from their Gallery app.

Have you enabled picassa to sync, and background data on your phone?

I've got background data syncing as well as Google to sync but haven't got Picasa as an option under the add account. Should I have?

The HTC Gallery app on the desire doesn't support this. I'm running a custom ROM and the gallery app on that does support Picassa

You don't need a custom rom.

Here is the link to the Gallery3D app from stock android (i.e. without sense) that suuports picasa web albums:

I voted iPhone. I've got the 3gs, so does all my family.

After having the use of an iPhone for an extended time after a friend wanted me to jailbreak/unlock it I can honestly say I have absolutely no idea what anybody see's in them.

I found it slow, awkward to type on, limited customisation, limited to using iTunes (i mean why the hell would I need to use iTunes to 'activate' it... I just want to get on with using it!), the screen wasn't very accurate to tap what I wanted sometimes, LCD screen (iphone 4 excluded of course)... the list goes on...

I'll stick with my Desire thanks!

To be honest I havent really got into the HTC Desire way of life unlike the prevoius HTC740 (Still got thankgoodness) as Ive found it a bit big and slow to operate(on Orange although I know you can remove all the orange cr4p and generally make it a better tool). Thing is... well I put it on the kitchen worksurface and the good lady placed a pile of washing on top of it and before you know it it's doing 1400rpm at the end of a 90 min 40 degree torture test. So.. hmmmm.. well the first thing to do was remove the battery and attempt to wave the device frantically 'windmill fashion' to see if it would miracuously drive the water away from the battered device ... You have to remember it was still wet when it flew out of my hand and hit the fridge before it landed in the cats dinner!(no word of a...).

At this point I was begining to think that there were other forces involved as you just wouldnt expect to have a run of daft bad luck as that but hey ho you gotta laugh!

A week later and I return to the aformentioned aflicted thingamajig and try another battery(loaned as original was beyond re-charge) and the bloomin thing sprang back to life!!!

Cant believe it!

Begining to enjoy the Desire a bit more now!

I love my Desire. Had it almost 3 months and still learning new things with it. I didn't go iPhone route because I didn't want to feel like an iSheep, going with the crowd. I tried the Desire instore and after 10mins was completely sold.

My phone renewel is coming up, and as much as i'd love an iPhone 4, i really cant justify the cost.

So i think i may shun all of you, and start investigating a WM7 phone.

Its all well and good calling people iSheep, but judging by the fact almost everyone makes an android phone now, and people are buying them because they are a cheaper iPhone surely its gSheep.

I personally think that the apps are part & parcel of getting a new phone nowadays and the ones on the Apple platform are generally of a wider breadth but are normally greater in consistency and quality. Obviously there are the odd few exceptions to this though and iTunes can't really be good with such a closed shop attitude can it? I don't mind them ensuring the app quality but hate having to use iTunes to 'register' the phone.

The Android platform does have some good ones but as the market isn't as tightly regulated, then some poorer ones slip in. The integration to Google is a big plus however!

As WM7 is just coming online, the potential to hopefully match the best parts of both previous platforms is in its infancy so with a bit of luck Microsoft can produce a phone OS/market to match it's desktop OS.

And theres the thing. Having a million apps isn't a good thing, if it makes finding things difficult. Less regulation will inevitably lead to the andriod marketplace having more apps, but will it be better?

If i were Apple, i'd be taking an axe to half the duplication/rubbish on the app store, not reducing regulation.

If you've never had a winmob phone before, it's a move you'll regret if you like phones quick and reliable. And if apps are your thing, so many wont be around on WM7 - tomtom for one big example!

Have a good play with one in store before you dive in is my advice.

biggest mistake of my life was tying myself into a long contract on an Android device. I had an iPhone and loved it, but was tempted by the whole android thing, and wish I'd have never bothered as i hated the android OS, the handset (HTC Desire), as it was so cheap and nasty, things like the battery cover not having uniform shut lines and stuff. I guess as a professional photographer/wannabe industrial designer, i notice stuff like that a lot more but it mattered to me... Gonna get an iPhone 4 asap really - i sent the Desire back and just use a previous generation handset now.

What was terrible about Android was the lack of decent applications, the "market" was more like a nasty indoor market (like the one in Stevenage) and Apple app store is like milton keynes shopping centre...

Not sure about WM. My first two smartphones where WM and I find Android 1.6 is so much better for its degree of services integration (WM was almost non funtional by comparison) and stability. With WM, restarts where weekly events (worse on the later version than the early one). Android has only had one restart in over a year and that was a result of a network problem on my local mast.

I think the term isheep is kind of justified in as much as the imarketing machine has made the iphone more popular than it would be if sold on merit only. The overarching presence if itunes is enough to put me off having one.

Key thing to consider is what you want to use the device for. If you like your mobile toys and want a mobile that doubles as a entertainment gadget, the iphone probably edges it as the device of choice. If you need something more focussed on communication and personal information management, the Android devices have the edge.

Build quality is a difficult one. The iphone has a level of percieved quality in its case finish and brand image, but in terms of performance and reliability it is an average device.

For me, communications / appointment and contact management with integration to the google services is of primary importance, so Android it is.

Easy to get around, variety, but expensive and lots of pick pockets everywhere you turn?

That's my experience of mk shopping

In my experience MK Shopping centre has also got the same shops as most shopping centres

Back on topic...

I Acquired a Free iphone 3G of my dad when they first came out so i used it with my Simplicity Simcard for ages and thought it was the Dogs... I however Decided to buy a Galaxy S This year and i havent looked back really

Only thing i can complain about is the Battery life on the Galaxy S is shocking compared to my Old iPhone

Well, after lots of research i bit the bullet, and went for a Windows Phone 7.

I knew all the down sides, most of which didn't bother me (i only used copy n paste a handful of times on my iphone). Only real annoyance was having to unhide my wireless network. Whoever at Microsoft decided to not supply any way of finding your phones Mac Address, or not connect to a hidden wireless network needs their head slapped. HARD.

Theres a reasonable choice of hardware, luckily im with O2 and they had my choice of phone the HTC HD7 (a Desire HD basically), and i had it within a day or two of ordering.

After a couple of weeks of usage now, got to say im highly impressed. I used WM years ago, and it was a crock of %^&*. WP7 is the complete opposite, i love the UI, my phone is really quick at everything. I've had to reboot a couple of times, every time because the twitter application is rubbish and crashes itself, only recovering after a reboot.

WP7 isn't a competitor to iOS or Android just yet. Mostly because the app store seems to be tiny at the moment (well 8000, compared to the hundreds of thousands of in iOS/Android). I know a load of the missing functionality is coming in the January and February updates. Give the marketplace a couple of months, and i think WP7 may supprise people in its ability to compete.
