Written Off - Brand New Octavia VRS

Featured Replies

Well after an acident on the way to work this morning my Octavia vRS looks very unwell. A vehicle decided not to stop at a red light and as a result I could not avoid hitting the van. The Octavia has extensive damage to the front even taking into account the low speed of impact of around 20mph. Car had covered a total of 300 miles in 2 weeks before the impact. Police and recovery firm say it's a write-off.

On another note this does show how good the safety systems are.... I walked out the car without a scracth, both air bags deployed...

Nice start to the day.

Terry

Sorry to hear this. Not what you need in the morning.

Really bad news, I'm gutted for you. But as you say, as long as your alright, the car can be fixed, or replaced. Lucky really as the 2 main airbags are designed to deploy at 19 mph and above!!

I thought airbag deployment was linked to deceleration speed rather than road speed.

It's a combination of the two. They'll only deploy above a certain speed as well as the deceleration limit

Sorry to hear about the crappy start to your day though Terry

Bad luck mate, do you have GAP insurance?

Most insurers replace with new if it's less than a year old even without GAP insurance... So hopefully Terry will be ok either way seeing as it's only 2 wees old

A little surprised it's a write off though, that's one hell of a repair job to be a write off...

Shouldn't need it surely?

Two weeks old - insurer will pay total cost for new car in the first 12 months.

Terry - sorry to hear about your accident, but as long as you are ok, the car can be built again for you, it's only metal and plastic.

Better it is a right off as it is only a few weeks old as you can have a new replacement , a crash is bad no matter how long you have had it but especially galling when so new. My wife's car had done 9 miles when new, to have someone destroy bumper and light when parked up ! Glad you are unhurt and hope insurance don't drag there feet

Worth a lot as salvage though, all goes into the equation

New car less salvage = a figure. If repairs are above or even close to the figure its scrapped.

Most but not all...Admiral and their group of insurance companies (Elephant etc) do not.

Sorry to hear that mate.

Im surprised it would be a write off at 20mph.

But the main point is your ok. Not good to have to replace/fix the car but that's what insurance is for.

Hope it all gets sorted quickly for you

I feel for you. I hope the guy in the van gets done for jumping the red light. And if you need to get a new car I hope they let you jump the build queue!

Sarge.

Gutted for you.

Hope is gets sorted out quickly.

what was the cause of the car failing to stop, was it driver error or brake failure??

give him a break!

I can't imagine them finding a second hand car anywhere close to 300 miles to justify anything less than the full price paid. If they didn't cough up for a new replacement I'd looks very quickly at the legal side of it, my 09 has dropped around £500 since new, so that's about £10 a week, I think you'd have very good grounds to prove your car value would be price you paid minus £30.

Are you sure vRSy didn't mean the vehicle that failed to stop at the red light rather than the OP?

give him a break!

steady on!!! i misread it, and thought it read that his car failed to stop. and was wandering why. As it happens that isnt the case and doesnt matter anymore

Thanks for all the replies; yet to have it confirmed if the car will be written off - I can only hope. Everyone who has seen it believe it will be... It's currently at a salvage place in Guildford. The other driver jumped the red light since he did not see it at all. I feel for him since the Police are throughing the book at him; that is what you get for telling the truth.

I now just need to wait and see how events unfold. Hopefully I'll be able to order another Octavia vRS in the near future; Not looking forward to the wait mind. I would buy a used version but the pricing is just not worth it, with all the good offers on new Octavia's its hardly worth getting a used.

I've got plenty of photos.... I'll try and attach one or two!

Sorry to hear about your car mate, hope it is a write off and you get the full amount req'd to replace. Hope you avoided all injury thats the main thing though

Which salvage place? Might pop in.

On a serious note glad you are alright and I hope it all gets sorted in your favour.

PS. Can I have your front seats? ;)

Should just T-Cut out :giggle:

Only kidding. I don't think that is a Write off.

Probably just a couple of Wings, Bonnet, Lights, Intercooler maybe etc. Car crashes look worse than they actually are these days with all the crumple zones.

The front cross member "looks" intact here. Obviously can't tell from the pics if it's bent out of shape at all.

For a car to be written off it usually has to come to more than about 45-50% of it's value. Or there is serious structural damage (i.e bent chassis etc)

From those pics i reckon it may not be as bad as you have been told. But Im no expert and im just going off what i am seeing.
