Have to agree with Carl, unless there's some serious structural damage not evident from the pictures I don't think that'll be a write off. I know there another grand or so for new airbags and dash but I'd be surprised if there's 10K of damage there. Sorry as I think I'd prefer a new car too...

For the first time I can recall, seeing as though everyone appears to be relatively unscathed, I hope it's caused more damage than is evident from those pictures...

I agree, unless it has been twisted that looks totally repairable.

I have to say that it doesn't look like a write off unless there is damage to the chassis, as it looks to have been a fairly square on impact the wheels are still on and the screen wash bottle is intact. Most of the written off cars I see when reporting accidents tend to have more damage to the wheels and invariably are leaking screenwash as the wash bottle gets crushed.

But then again I'm not a mechanic, and haven't seen the damage up close. All the best though, i'd have been fuming if i was in your shoes

With this much work required i'd make sure it wasnt the insurer's preferred repairer doing it. I'd have my local skoda dealer fixing it up or another well respected indie, and to heck with the insurance company's insistance that i wouldn't get a courtesy car if i choose my own repairer...

Not sure if this will help me case but it would appear the engine has been pushed back.... Only time will tell now.... As soon as I have any news I will share it with you for your input and advise. Forget to mention the engine oil light is on so it must have leaked oil I assume...

Thanks everyone for the replies today.

Oh... Just to finish it off I have a rental car now.... Only problem is there is a huge bulge in one of the tyres!

i guess it depends how much all the crumple zones are to fix.

if they decide on the repair you need to be mega mega anal as well when it comes to accepting the car back. Also if that is the case and your car is a petrol, try and get the garage to put an S3 intercooler on the car. they cost pretty much the same from the stealers anyway

Forgot to mention.... the salvage garage give me the tax disc back also.... He said I would never drive it again so should take it now!

Although my insurance company may say differently just got to wait.

I've seen cars written off that don't look half as bad as that so you never know.

Its not until you go over these with a fine eye that things such as kinked rooflines etc become apparent.

I had a Sierra Estate t-boned in Italy years ago. Insurance got the car into a container, shipped back to blighty and re-shelled at a main dealer. The car was never the same - creaks, grans and rattles so I sold it three weeks after getting it back...............after a 5 month wait while it was repaired!

That's a nightmare you must be gutted.

I don't erm suppose it had maxidot did it? ;)

Really sorry to hear this, you must be gutted.

sorry to hear that

I love the vultures after spare parts... however, if it is a write off it'll be the insurance company you need to ask emoticon-0100-smile.gif

Sorry to hear that matey, with that sort of damage i dont think id want it back. Even if it was repairable.

Neither would I and I was also thinking about the circling vultures too ! Shame the DRL's are no good...oops, got me at it now...

Sorry buddy, its not nice that you must had at 8 week wait then 2 weeks its trashed. Hope your replacement VRs arrives quick

I would doubt they will write it off. Someone rear ended me in my 4x4 last month at 40 mph. They repaired it even though the repair costs were more than I paid for the car!! The Saxo that hit me was definatley a write off however!!

I wasn't you involved in an accident at the Stoke crossroads was it?

I think it well have been the Stoke cross roads; The traffic lights where Woking Road & The Broadway join in Guildford near the fire station...

Have to call the insurance company again later and see if there is any news.... I can't see there be any yet...

My body is defainately feeling the pains today, although I'm sure it will be ok in a couple of days.

Terry

To be fair, looking at the pics the damage does not look that bad, once the damaged panels are removed it may just be a case of replacing them. Wings, bonnet and the other damaged panels simply bolt on with no welding required.

Although I suspect, they may well write it off as a Cat D which is damage repairable. So even though the first owner may not get to drive it, someone else will in the future.

Looks marginal to me, if the Engines moved then its had a decent thump. Insurance companies have to warranty work & they tend to err on the side of caution if theres potential mechanical damage as it could rear its ugly head a few months down the line, you say the oil lights on as well although that could well be a wiring problem.

I think you need to get a gut feeling for if you want it back or not & wait & see what they say. I have heard but obviously cant confirm that some assesors appear to total cars with a buyer in mind for the salvage so if its marginal & you want it back ask to be allowed to get a second opinion.

If it is repaired I would advise seriously considering a repairer of your choice, they all use the same thatcham rates & you have the right to have it repaired wherever you want & being a new car the Skoda dealer would be worth considering, then if there are any issues later with warranty claims that might be blamed on accident damage its the same person who needs to sort it.

I bumped the Abarth last year & it was stuck in limp mode, transpired it was just a sensor gone but one deep inside the steering column & ended up being done under warranty, the physical damage to the car was minimal & thankfully I had insisted on the Abarth dealer doing the repairs, it took 2 visits by a master technician from Abarth to identify the fault, had it of been with a run of the mill body shop god knows when it would have been sorted, as it was it took 3 weeks to find the fault & the first replacement steering column they fitted (yep couldnt just get a sensor) was also defective so the car was stripped twice. Total Credit to Westover there wasnt a single dash squeek or rattle afterwards & the other repairs were also perfect

If it has a leather interior and its a total let me know where its gone as I require the 2 side bits of the back seats next to the doors

Insurance company confirm its written off ... good news for me...

Now I wait to find the offer value for the car...

Terry

Nb. Not full leather just standard spec.

I'd have been heartbroken if that was my car.

Glad to hear you are OK though - that's the main :) Hopefully get the result you want out of it (i.e. a replacement car!)

Did you order a standard spec?

It might be that if you did, you could jump off the back of a 'stock' order.

If not, had you worked out in two weeks if you needed the extras - or want any more.

Are you driving a hire car, and if so, do you get to keep it for the full length of time that you wait for the new car, or do you have to give it back when the claim is settled?
