Octavia Removal Van

Featured Replies

For the last few weeks I've been hauling items of furniture to our new place and surplus stuff to charity shops and the local recycling centre.

The large hatch and folding seats have really impressed with settees up to 1.9m long fitting in. Almost as good as my old Passat estate in carrying capacity. Only once did I have to lash the tail gate in place.

I'd second that - I moved house 3 times last year :o and found the Octy incredibly valuable (with the assistance of a rented van on 2 occassions).

Last Sunday I was involved in running a cross country mountain bike race. My car carried 4 motorway type traffic cones, a 6 foot folding table, a marquee, 4 boxes of trophies, a box of race documentation, a folding bike rack, start/finish banner and a selection of trail building tools and a bunch of signs on stakes. There was still room to squeeze one person into the back seat to get him a lift out of the forest (There was already a front passenger on board)... Not bad for a hatchback :)...

I'm moving house this week, and am lucky enough that its less than a mile from where I live now, and I've got the keys to the new place a couple of weeks prior to moving out of the old one. So 90% of the move is being done by my trusty Octavia estate, will just have to hire a van for a couple of things that just won't fit (bed matress and wardrobes) - fantastic car, the only thing I'd change for is a Superb estate...

Matresses will go on the roof! Singles (and maybe doubles) will actually fit inside

Wardrobes can be carried round, or wheeled on a sack truck if it won't go in the car

We've got a man and a van to do the larger stuff. A wheel barrow was suggested by one of my cruel sisters in law.

I once got 4 rolls of Loft insulation in, certainly saved on delivery. Also a dead body fits in easy; I don’t have to cut the legs of like in my old Fabia.

Beat this then suckers.

1 of Father

3 of pairs socks, underpants, t-shirts

1 of box washing powder

1 of Mother

1 of Toilet bag

1 of 25KG wardrobe contents

1 of 6 Month old & 2 weeks worth food/accessories/clothes.

I was quite chuffed to get 6 interior doors in my hatch. Just had to nudge the front passenger seat forward a couple of notches.

6 x bags of (very heavy) decorative stones

2 x ~150 litre? ( the ones labelled super extra fooking massive :giggle: ) packs of compost

1 x weeks shopping

1 x GF & her bags

1 x rear seat dedicated to an ugly plant (which has already died, what a waste of £30 :giggle: )

There was still enough space to put more stuff in but it was an insane amount of weight to carry. Car didn't hunker down too much at the rear, stiffer Vrs springs i guess...

All the kit required to organise a road cycling event...including gazebo, banners, lapboard, stakes, brush, shovel, flags, road signs, radios & aerials, marshalls jackets, 8 large plastic storage boxes...etc etc.

All went into my estate (with back seats folded). Used to have to hire a van

2x trips from the DIY shop with 10x 25kg bags of gravel each time and 2x 2.4m decking planks (just dropped the hatch in the middle of the back seats and laid the decking along the back seats and armrest between the front seats - went in no problem and still had space to change gear!). The car was a bit lower at the back, but no problems. Plenty of space left, but thought 1 trip with 500kg in one go might be pushing it a bit...

Then when I'd finished doing the garden on to the tip with 18 of the gravel bags now full of soil, plus the broken up remains of an old garden bench, a few carrier bags of stuff and a large cardboard box that was for a surround sound speaker system. And all the boot of the estate

Check the wardrobe size before you hire a van - i got one in my MKI Octavia, with the hatch closed fully! in the estate you should have no problems.

The Superb estate however is another beast altogether! (im looking to change my Superb for one)
