Why were the DRL's on the non police vRS flashing?

Oops, so did I. Not sure which was more boring though tbh.

I think they were all press cars from the registration plates.

Just goes to show that the Police should have their cars remapped :D

think they do down here, one went past me with the flashing blues and i tried to stay within sight of him when i first flashed back to stage 1 and i could just keep up with him on the straight bit of road

Think the blue vRS is probably an unmarked or training vehicle.

It says "Skoda Octavia vRS police car chases our long-termer" so for press

Camera issue?

The Merc on top gear this week was doing the same thing.

so did the porshe rear lights and the veyrons drag with the mclaren

Think it is because LED's dont have a constant current they have power passed throught them so many times a second which the naked eye cant pick up on but which a camera can? Its similar to when you see a computer screen on news programmes the screen refresh rate can be seen.

nah man I work in film & tv lighting and I know LED's are fine on camera. Sorry

It depends on the camera and the LED modulation system. It is indeed quite possible for this strobing to show up when LEDs are driven by a PWM system.

Was that the Superb Estate also jojning in

Yeah it was. Looked good

They flash when all aids are turned off.

I saw a R8 have all of it's stuff turned off on Audi TV, they had to spend hours getting it done, it's lights were the same, all disco'd up.

hmm I wonder why that is..? I would have thought the police would frown upon any sort of flashing lights. :o

I think the top gear and these flashing lights are to do with PWM like previously said..

The control module can control the brightness of the LEDs by changing the pulse width duty cycle, hence why you see audi fairylight leds go dim when their indicator is on that side.

Ah ok I must have missed that bit. So they aren't flashing at all - its just the way they look when viewed on film.

Yeah, hence why they aren't a uniform flash, just random flashes of light as the frame rate matches the pulse width.

Kev

The Superb estate look rather good didn't it!! I've driven a police demo Superb at my force driving school  3.6 V6 4x4 B) me want, me want........ :p
