Don't speak too soon: I've heard some people have fitted dodgy spoilers and neons to Octavias! ;)

Robs whose car is that cos mine had wrc wing when i had my neons on?

Was definitely yours...on the "night of the midges"...

Rob.

wheres the wing gone?

oh well could have sworn i was on 18"s with the 245's by then...

Heebee 18"s and 245's on an octy - how chav!

shame they were P-zero C's running high camber at the front

still they won me and ian the prize on the RPM Tour.. on a loose surface rally stage just to add hilarity!

i was thinking of starting a similar thread because i am worried that the fabia vrs will become the latest boy racer car in a chav kind of way. i am in my 30's and still into cars but not in the 'look at that prat' kind of way that most of us do when we see chavs trying to impress driving something that if he had a mirror along side would probably jump out of and disown at the next set of lights (assuming of course he had a brain cell between him and his 'vicki pollard' type passenger). i think the subtle changes can be nice and personalise your car but there is definetely a line to cross. please tell me i don't need worry that the fabia vrs will become the xr3i of the 80's (no offence to those who owned one before i get jumped on!!)

Another thing to think about is that everyone owning a Furby VRS will be affected if it becomes a typical chav-mobile , because insurance companies will start to see a lot more claims involving them and so premiums will rise.

Cant see it, not for a few years anyway. Unfortunately (or fortunately) the Skoda, in any guise still has that stigma attached to it, so any self respecting chav would rather spend his dough on corsa'a, saxos's etc. True, the odd chav may slip through the net and get himself a fab vRS but i truly beleive it will be years until they are the car of choice....at LEAST until the skoda stigma has been diluted over the years. One of the reasons i got mine was because i thought it would be relatively rare (and when you compare it to other makes it still is) and because i thought it would be avoided by the spotty baseball cap wearing bling bling brigade.

Paul, couldn't that car be the Pikey's one? :D

Why would people definitely want to 'upgrade' (one man's improvement is another man's travesty) the car? I'm quite happy with it' date=' although I've changed the head unit (so I can use an iPod).

Your comment about the wheels is exactly the sort of thing I'm talking about: fitting wider tyres, with lower profiles, will often reduce the handling capabilities of the car, because of the limitation of the geometry of MacPherson strut suspension. You'll probably find severe wear occurs on the edges of the tyre, because the tread can't adapt to stay square with the road surface when cornering. But the chavs assume bigger is better, so slap them on without a second thought. But bigger wheels don't necessarily mean more grip, particularly on cars such as the Fabia and Octavia, with pretty run-of-the-mill suspension systems.

What's particularly sad is that most of the wheels sold in Halfords etc are complete garbage, and are sold with crap tyres. Why pay for an expensive model in the range, then bin all the bits that cost the extra money?[/quote']

who said anything about buying crap wheels and tyres, with thesuspension etc set right and wider/larger wheels generally help with handling, don't seemany rally cars etc running around on the standards might find its got an upgrade. I know thats a bit extreme but think you might see what i'm saying.

That you failed GCSE English?

:nervous: :moped: Right I'm off to get some neons for my moped.

I might be a while!

I agree with Carefree, the "chavs" wont spend 12k on a car, they would sooner spend 3 - 4 k on a car then 10k on mods. ( well that was wot the last chav did, who worked on my shift , before being fired ).

Until the Fab vRS second hand numbers increase dramatically, thier values are 3-4k, & the badge stigmatsm disappears it is unlikely to happen.

BTW, How many of people here who own VRS's ( both ) will keep their current cars for less than 3 years ?

Steve

Judging from some of the new members on here, the Chavs are already buying them ;)

What ya on abooot man!? Are ya sayin Fab owners are friggen charvas like ya daaaahhhfft c*****t!!

;)

Maybe he's referring to me, a 20 year old who actually has a decent job? It doesnt matter what age the driver, chavscum.co.uk will tell you how to spot a chav.

Maybe he's referring to me, a 20 year old who actually has a decent job?

I dont get the job bit, are you saying you have a better job than MonkeyHanger or that it is rare for a 20 year old to have a good job?

I'm referring to anyone who thinks i'm referring to them.

If the cap fits etc ;)

Face it guys the Fabia is a chavs car ... the octy 4x4 is for wannabe farmers.. the octy diesels are for taxi cabs ... the superb is for posh s.e. airport runs... and the only real one is the Octy vRS!

Octy vRS = Golf GTI wannabe

Anyway, I always thought the Fabia was a granny wagon...

I don't see where the argument coems from if your saying that anyone in a small car with style modifications is a 'chav'. Some people are into the idea of putting pointless oversize spoilers, huge low profile wheels, big air vents everwhere, bodykits etc etc... Personally, its not to my taste at all, but I don't think everyone who drives a car modified in such a way is a 'chav'. Maybe I'm not understanding the full meaning of the word, but if its the same as the Scottish equivelant - the 'ned' then these people driving the styled cars are usually far from neds (or chavs).

Also, as said before - no self respecting chav or ned would be seen in a Skoda - its just not there sort of thing. Maybe as the badge becomes more popular, it will take off a bit more and become accepted, but its probably a while away yet.

All I'm saying is you cant really class the driver by the car their driving. Also with regard to accidents - young drivers have more accidents, that had been proven. But theres no evidence that someone with

I dont think the every so weary word 'chav' has anything to do with it. I think it is more to do with personal taste.

Everyone has different tastes in what they like and it much the same with cars. Some people like big chrome alloys and others would rather keep the car more suttle looking.

Age, again, has nothing to do with it.

Personally I dont care what people do to there Furby's, its there choice and they do it.

:)

When I say chav, its because people are buying them and then just coming on here and either saying they beat x, y and z or that they cant so they wanna spend god knows how much just so they can keep up with someone else... seems like chav-ish behavior to me

I suppose the desire to be faster than x, y or z is chav-ish behaviour, but its also been proven that its typical adrenaline junkie male behaviour.

I can only speak for myself - but if I wanted the...

Fastest car I could afford - I wouldn't have went for the Fabia VRS.

Most stylish car I could afford - I wouldn't have went fot the Fabia VRS.

Car with most gadgets & luxuries I could afford - Again, not the Fabia VRS.

I went for its because it has a nice mix of all these things, without being too much of any one of them, and it has a lot crammed in for the price. I will spend money to make it better (gadgets, style and performance) and have just spent a fair bit on its Chrimbo pressies.

I think when people on here talk about their Skoda's being faster, or beating car x, its not because their driving about the streets looking for a race - it just seems to happen when your going from a-b, that someone wants to try and be funny on the road. If you happen to leave him looking  because your SKODA left him behind it makes it all the more fun.

I just can't see the Fabia VRS becoming the 'chavs' car of choice anytime in the next few years. When you can pickup second hand Impreza's now for buttons, your average chav with the desire to go fast is more likely to be seen in one of them....usually without insurance!!

Skoda's are still too sensible ;)

Believe me I do like to drive fast, usually as fast as possible (which aint saying a lot eh? :D) without getting banned, and where it is safe to do so... I dont go looking for races, which quite often seems to be the case lately, maybe I'm just reading more into it than that, but it does seem like it sometimes.
