New Skoda Scout Owner - advice please?

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

Firstly I am a new member of the forum and also soon (8 days away) from taking ownership of my first ever brand new car - a Skoda Octavia Scout. The full spec is here:

[*]Black Magic paint

[*]Leather interior

[*]2.0 TDI CR

[*]Xenons

[*]Silver roof rails

[*]Curtain airbags

[*]front parking sensors

[*]MDI

[*]Electric Drivers memory seat

[*]Multifunction steering wheel

[*]We also got the cooling box and fitted dog guard

I would like to make a request for any advice any members have for someone with a new Scout. Is there anything I should look out for on collection, common problems etc. I am fully expecting all to be correct on collection, so if you have any advice on stuff that is good to do on the car in its first few weeks then I would love to know.

Any advice or steerage to useful pre-existing topics would be really useful. Also if anyone knows if you can get the LED daylight running lights retro-fitted that would really please the wife!

It only a small thing, but the brochure states that front heated seats are included in the leather/alcantara option. Mine was delivered without, and I note that the online configurater now handles these options independantly. My dealer refunded me the cost of the heated seats.

Check the servicing is set to your preference - either fixed or variable.

My approach was to do a thorough visual inspection of everything to check it is as expected - I think transit damage is potentially very difficult to prove if not noticed on collection - so check the bodywork closely and don't be rushed.

There are some threads on the forum which talk about damage or misbuild of the leather seats and door cards - so worth checking these off.

And don't forget to check the spare wheel well.

But most of all enjoy the car - it should be a great experience picking up a brand new Scout.

Thanks guys for the replies.

I must say we have some concern over what the car will come with as we ordered the car in March when it was the 2010 spec and now have the 2011 spec being delivered. Somethings like rain sensing windscreen wipers (standard on 2010 model) we think are now an option on the 2011 model. We will be checking our order form and catalogue very carefully to see what we expected. Good to hear your dealer refunded you the difference if items are missing.

Yes have ordered a full sized spare wheel as not convinced on the tyre repair kits.

Any other advice most welcome.

Cheers.

As usual Skoda UK does a great job of confusing customers with their brochures.

The Scout standard spec lists light assistant (coming / leaving home and auto 'on'), automatically dimming rear view mirror and rain sensing windscreen wipers - as it always has.

Except now for 2011 we now get the new option of LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL's). These are in lieu of the front fog lights as they use the same apertures in the front bumper.

This option is part of a pack, according to the brochure, which also includes light assistant, the auto dimming mirror and rain sensor - for £130.00 inc. VAT.

As these additional features are already standard on the Scout you are basically paying £130 for LED DRL's with Skoda trying to make out you get more for your money.

As for retrofitting them to a car that didn't leave the factory with them I guess it would be possible, you may need a new headlight switch to remove the front fog light selection (this may just automatically disable when you remove the fog lights?) and also as they come on automatically when you start the engine and dim/turn off when you switch on the normal lights some sort of recoding of the car's computer system will be required too?

Bit concerned about this as living in Scotland I was keen on the heated seats, I am awaiting delivery in the next couple of wks of Scout with leather/alcantara upgrade is this the case on all cars ordered with this option? Can I assume mine wont have heated seats either?

I bought my car from drive the deal and is coming from Malbourgh Skoda London dont suppose this was the dealer that refunded you the difference?

Yes - I was a bit disappointed about this, but then thought well I've never had heated seats before, and given the price of diesel, I can cope with having to warm them myself!

I wasn't sure whether the lack of heated seats was a one-off misbuild, or reflects the options as shown in the configurator i.e. you have to specify both options. I ssupect its the latter but have no evidence.

It was Allams that refunded - I was happy with this resoltuion of the problem.

Also to reiterate Silver's comments - auto lights and wipers were fitted without having to specify LED DRLs.

Regards,

Les.

In spite of trying to think of everything there are some items which I overlooked and wished I had sorted before taking delivery.

All these items are still possible but are now difficult or will cost.

1. Obtain the 4 digit SKC - required for programming new keys.

2. Get both rear fog lights activated.

3. Activate front fog lights to operate when using coming/leaving home function.

4. Activate front DRL's.

Any other advice still very very welcome.

Really enjoying the forums and learning loads of useful stuff!

Thanks to everyone who has replied so far.

BTDT, got the scar on my finger to prove it.

My finger was dripping so much blood, I had to use my mobile to call our landline to get my wife to bring a plaster out, whilst simultaneous trying to stop our dog from licking my blood off the drive... :D

Hah, me too! Also managed a nice flow of blood down my arm onto the drive.....I wonder how many of us have managed this? A small, but painful, blight on an otherwise fantasic car.

Perhaps a scar on your finger will be some kind of weird club membership thing for Scout owners?!!

Excellent purchase - I love mine (well, ours as OH drives it as much as me and paid for half of it as well). I see you are having a dog guard fitted and I would recommend also getting the vinyl flap that goes over the bumper if you haven't already done so. Our retriever has put a few deep scratches in our bumper jumping in and out of the boot. If you can't get one from Skoda then look on the hatchbag website. You could also consider purchasing a made to measure bootliner ( try the roofbox website) to keep the boot clean

On the point of tailpipe I fitted stainless ones with nice round edges, and look better too, also got Skoda rubber mats in place of standard, easy to clean and keep water off floor in snowy weather.

Enjoy( I Do)

Skoda do Stainless pipes, I got mine on line and had to modify fixing a little, because Scout tailpipes are so small, can't remember the company ,will try to look it out.Dont get Halfords they tend to rust and rot ,as most chrome ones do.
