Civic S-Sport

Featured Replies

My friend is in the process of buying a Civic S Sport (160bhp) and i was just wondering if any of you guys have had any experience of them? Anyone driven one or followed/overtaken them in your cars...i drive a standard fabia vrs and it would be nice to know for my own gratification whether i still have the higher performance car

I suspect i might because of the fabias big torque advantage

I havent really posted on here before but have read a lot of threads and they are really useful and interesting  My fabia is currently on 11,000 miles and as mentioned by quite a few people, the engine feels a lot more lively since i passed the 10,000 mile mark. It pulls a lot more strongly from 1000rpm, where before it sometimes felt off boost, now it just picks up and goes with less smoke than before too. I've fitted goodyear eagles on the front axle after a puncture (standard michelins still on rear) and these really improved the handling of the car, making it feel much more solid. The goodyears seem to run out of grip very gradually too, so you always know when to back off...give you more confidence than the michelins.

Cheers

i would expect the civic to outsprint you... but should be fairly even on a a/b road...

Off the line, it'll just beat you, mid range you'll kill it. Handling will be fairly evenly matched. Cross country, Lands End to John O'Groats, you'd win by quite some margin :D

The type S is a lush car. I drove it around milbrook and loved every part of it. Was responsive, nippy (as in a sprint) and when it changed cam, it was like the heavens opening and letting roar. Gearbox was amazingly positive and you were either in or out of a gear with a positive notchy-ness to it. As its Vtec though its not a torquey engine but very revvy which gives it pace rather than midrange grunt. Built like a tank too :)

But a remapped Fabia would anhilate it and do more mpg and be more drivable cos of the torque.

Thanks guys, sounds like it could be a close call.

I must admit the civic is a lovely looking car, it is gunmetal grey had the full type R bodykit and 17inch 5 spoke alloys. The dash mounted gear shift is quite tasty too, very touring cars.

Don't get me wrong though, i love the fabia to bits and wouldnt change it for the world. When you want to play it will play and when you want to cruise it gives you 50mpg, cant complain with that. For a diesel i even think it sounds quite nice, very burbly.

I guess the civic might be at an advantage 0-60 as it can probably do it in 2nd gear?

not as quick as a Octy vRS!

But probably better handling!

Nope.

HTH

Yep. :P

Our accounts manager has one, and I've driven it once or twice. I actually preferred it in some ways to my workmate's type R. It wasn't as fast, but was much quieter, and a lot less frenetic. It lacked midrange, and you had to thrash it to make it go, but that's never a chore with a V-TEC engine.

Phil

I can imagine the type s wont be better handling than an octy vrs - however a type r may be as its slightly different suspension setup...

One guy i worked with managed to write off a 1/2 year old civic type R - 16k worth of damage..... had an arguement with a lorry

He has another type R that on the first day of ownership - it got hit by a numpty who left their car out of gear and handbrake off...

Feel sorry for the guy as its a lush car - and a very cool/subzero car

Type-R is definitely better handling than the vRS "out of the box", but for the money you save buying the Octy, the vRS can be tweaked significantly!!! :D

Chris

oh yes - but sorry to put it on here - the type R looks a damn sight sexier ;) - however thats just being shallow and couldnt justify the extra 5k+ :)

how's it sexier? It looks like a bread van, since when have they been sexy?

To me the Type R reminds me of the Mitsubishi Lance EVOs, good cars but always seem to be owned by *******/IT consultants

Somebodys been on Cliosport ;)

I was more renaultsportsclub than cliosport,

How can you say that!! it looks astonishing. (let me guess you like marmite?). The type R is the epitome of any Jap car, and looks as agressive as it should. Sits well on the road, shaped like a wedge, IMHO it looks better than any italian designed rubbish. I feel better having seen a civi type R compared to seeing any ferrari etc.

Given the choice between the golf gti and type R - I'd take the honda.

The type R is the epitome of any Jap car,

Designed andbuilt in the beautiful Japanese holiday resort of Swindon

It's not that good looking, it's only as nice as the rest of the range, but with side skirts, and most Civics will drive past you without you realising as bif they were invisible.

There was a lot of the old clio gang that call type R's Breadvans and alot of cliosport lot visit the renaultsport site.

I was a member on both, but there's too many new threads on CS.

Think that might be taking it a bit far. ;) Evo's, "classic" Scoobs, Skylines, RX-7, RX-8, NSX (to name but a few :D) are all better cars in both looks and performance ;)

Chris

Honda are jap, end of - if you complicate it by saying it was built elsewhere, like i'm scouse but live in dover. I am scouse born and therefore will remain scouse my life. Honda are a jap company, irrelevant of where they live, they will always be jap :).

Same about anything really on the roady (drives past and poof its unnoticed) so you have to have more of an open mind in the world of utterly bland cars, and in scope of all blandness, the civic type r is lush.

Evo's as clarkson said - looks like its had an accident with a halfords front window, suppose same could be said about subaru's irrelevant of age. Skylines look more american than anything else - looks rather 2005 mustang, rx7 is a big boys mx5 :D, RX8 - ok you've got me there, its on par with a type R and i did tell someone to get one over a 350Z because thats just a glorified clio V6, NSX is horrible - its like the outcast kid that no one wanted to play with.

Its not about outright performance - its overall x factor ;)
