Serious problems.

Featured Replies

i work for tps in sheffield, tps generally speaking arent open to the general public and some tps centres wont serve you unless you go in with a trade order on letter headed paper. having said that some will (like ourselves) but you will have to collect, most service bits are cheaper than gsf and all bits are cheaper than the dealers because you will receive discount on the rrp. tps was set up by volkswagen for garages etc to contact without having to go through switchboards etc at the dealers

Yeah you have to collect at ours, but every other motor factors around me you have to collect too, and TPS where a hell of a lot cheaper than anywhere else that did genuine bits, back off there in a bit too pick up my Vehicle Speed Sensor that they ordered for me the other day too.

******DONE******

Pick-up pipe was blocked solid. All fitted and checked and its now running the cheaper oil for 500 miles, then onto the good oil only problem there was is that whoever serviced it the last time had cross threaded the sump plug so the thread is ruined now, we managed too get the old plug back in and tight for now, but it's going to have too be hellicoiled when I change the oil after 500 miles.

Feels so much smoother now :)

fitting the speed sensor tomorrow so I should acctually know what speed I am doing then,

Strange as I find TPS no cheaper than dealer for a number of parts like temp sensor , MAF, coilpacks etc. Although perhaps as i am not trade, but would of still thought better then dealer??

I can't see them being cheaper than GSF or Euro parts though either. Maybe i was unlucky on my purchases

if your not trade then they will charge you full retail at the same price as you would pay in the dealers, as an example a coil pack for the vrs retail from the dealers is £29.09+ vat, trade from a tps centre £20.36+ vat or air mass meter £82.30+vat from the dealers £61.73+vat from tps. but like i say its all trade dependant . most parts will be cheaper than the gsf's of this world an oil filter is £3, is there any point in getting non gen ? and before the mods jump on me for advertisement thats not what i'm trying to do i'm just showing that members can save plenty of money if they can be a bit inventive with who they work for

I've been using TPS for years. Always helpful unlike the stealers.

When I went in too mine they put it through as a car club so that gets the same discount as trade.

I'm treating it too some new wheels tonight, and then coilovers getting ordered tomorrow once some funds clear in the bank :D

Really relieved for you! emoticon-0167-beer.gifemoticon-0169-dance.gif Well done, you must be quite satisfied to have found the problem and cured it.

Can anyone working for TPS confirm if this is the case for all centres? i.e. register as a Briskoda member to get trade prices?

I don't see any obvious restrictions on registering on their website, but would that be as a retail customer?

Glad to see you got it all sorted Rennie. Nice save!

The aluminium sumps are soft as cheese, and I don't think they are too expensive. So maybe look to replace, or replace with a reinforced one if your going to lower it more. There are some aftermarket options about, and even an OE option that has a steel lower portion.

Here it is: http://www.ecstuning.com/Volkswagen-Golf_IV--1.8T/Engine/Mechanical/Oil_Pan/ES4369/

How did the repair go anyway? Is it all very obvious and simple, with no nasty surprises? I'd like to do mine at some point, as I now have access to a pit which makes jobs like this very easy.

How come you didn't change the oil pump in the end? I must admit I've never heard of them failing on these engines.
