ok so weather was superb and i thought time to try out the kestrel DAS 6 pro....probs the most time ive spent on a particular panel but was 2+ hours worth it....first tried out some combos just to see what worked best, then phoned a detailers for some extra info, and voila. didnt get before pics but the roof certainly had to be the worst panel on the car, and im over the moon with the results, i'd say 80-90% of scratches and swirls are now gone, i will let the pictures do the talking....i went for a combo of, CG hex logic green with menzerna P085RDS 3.02 intensive polish off the top of my head im sure thats right, followed by a CG hex logic orange pad with P085RD final finish and then a coat of AG HD wax.

BANG!!!!

so got 2 used VW blue tinted heated mirrors (genuine) for £25 posted off ebay, just chanced my luck as the guy was wanting around £32-£34 posted for them and he accepted my offer of £25 so bonus!

fitted them today, didnt realise i would have to disect the wires and extend them as the heating element connectors are at the other side and the wires wouldnt reach.

mini-mirrors001.jpg

mini-mirrors002.jpg

removed the old mirrors and started using 'bullet style joiners' to extend the old wiring....(cut off old connector and attached these.

mini-mirrors003.jpg

mini-mirrors004.jpg

then added the extended wire (just stabbed a guess tbh)

mini-mirrors005.jpg

i put new connectors on the end of the wires that resembed the ones i cut off, (sorry forgot to get pics now) i then hooked it all up and covered most of the wires in insulating tape and then fitted, the taop also hid the red wires out the way when fitted. done like things on show like wiring etc, so all seems pretty hidden.

happy, nice little mod, i did break the old driverside on removal and it wasnt coming off as easy as passenger side so be careful if anyone else does this mod, the mirrors even though used are in great condition, few little marks on driverside just at the wide angle bit but better than my old one, hardly noticable tbh, i then gave them a clean and noticed the rain was clinging to them quite alot which is annoying in view, so went to get rain-X which was empty so opted for 2 coats of HD wax, should do the trick and get the rain running off them.

i dont know a good way to test the heating elements but i will just hope they work lol, hopefully my wiring works ok.

bit of a essay for a small update but owell, might come in useful for someone.

i changed the glass on my fabia's wing mirrors aswell looks alot better in my opinion.

i've still to extend the wires like you have tho as i didn't have any wire at hand to do this

but i also have to change the unit that moves the drivers mirror as it is broken and has never worked.

pretty happy with it, stuff is pretty thick, and i didnt want to take the bumper off to remove fogs, so not perfect but good enough, i didnt trim it either, cut a square and put it over and stuck stuck the flaps over the plastic housing, because i have for covers it covers the untrimmed mess anyways. 5-10 min job, i did opt to get the hairdryer up to heat it up to make it a little more pliable ;)

It looks strange with those lights. Bright white/blue(ish) headlights and yellow fogs. However I had read that yellow is best for driving in fog (or poor viability), you don't want bright white for those conditions.

P.S. I'm sure you cheated with that mpg figure. It looks to me like instant mpg not trip average mpg.

That's average MPG but it's still not difficult to get it to show 200mpg.
