V-Power diesel

Featured Replies

Filled up in a hurry on sunday, and ended up putting a tankful of v-power diesel in instead of normal diesel.

Oh well, I thought, it'll be interesting to see if economy/performance is any better.

270 miles later, no noticeable differance as far as I can tell. Anyone else found this?

I did the same, and accidentally filled up with Vpower. I got less miles than I normally do. OK, I might have happened to do driven in different conditions to the other tanks, but on the balance, I'd say it's probably the same MPG at best. Would have to do more testing to confirm though, over a longer period.

It is supposed to be better for your engine and injectors though........

I think you have to use it for a good tankful or two before you start noticing improvements.... Much the same as using the likes of Millers Sport 4 additive etc....

Cheers

Dave.

Found BP Ulimate gave a nicer tick over and it seemed to be smoother at higher revs. Gets slightly better MPG though, but not enough to offset the 'cheap' petrol by university.

BP ultimate burns like petrol. gives good performance but not that great economy

...............but does it help the DPF due to it been a "Cleaner" fuel ie:- Less Soot

Sorry, should state that was in a petrol, if it makes any difference.

I found it got around 2-3mpg more and cost around £2 a tank extra. Did do the maths but can't remember the outcome, but I think it was cheaper than normal BP in the long run, or at least very close.

Petrol now is around 7-8pp cheaper than BP Ultimate, so I use that instead.

That's OK Mr Fish but the OP did mention V-Power diesel.....

I also found the fabia was not as good on fuel using it. TBH in one tank I doubt it will make much of a difference and who wants to fork out the extra however many pence a litre (10p?) to test it on a few tanks?

exactly!

I filled up with a tank of v power diesel recently and it seemed to last longer than normal shell diesel which I thought was pretty good, deffo got more miles from the tank (approx 50) I'd use it all the time if it wasn't for the price :(

I think it's a waste of money personally and saw no noticable increase in MPG and response after using it ( and I used it for about two weeks). Diesel is expensive enough as it is and it's not like you have to use this stuff unlike high octane petrol in the new Direct Injection Petrols.

I have actually read on SCN that normal 'Fuel Save' Diesel has a higher Cetane number (diesel equivalent to Octane) than V-power Diesel. I posted the link to it on a thread about V-power last week.

I always fill up with Shell fuel. I only fill with VPD when I get Coupons with the fuel card, where I get extra points. The only difference is it makes is my wallet gets a bit lighter.

I always use shell diesel and tried V-Power Diesel for three weeks and 1500 miles. No difference to mpg so stopped paying the extra.

On over 50k , ever noticed any difference between all the standard diesel fuels in my Fabia. At work , one bloke swore blind that his Fiesta van went better ( on the basis that it would do another 5mph in third over normal diesel ) on the dearer stuff. Personally , as said - I've found that the bog standard fabia 1.4 likes the cheapest fuel around . And on every MOT - bloke's been impressed by emission figures .
