VRS/TSi - might be worth a check of your oil level.

Featured Replies

Checked my oil level after 2100 miles to find the oil level didn't even register on the dipstick.

I was reading on the seat cupra forum that the tsi engines like all new engines to a certain degree tend to use oil in early engine life/miles.

It seems many people has found the same. I know it's quite a small sump but was surprised to see just how low it was.

Anyway it's now topped up (took about 700 ml) Worth a check to make sure your engine remains nice and healthy.

  • Well, when I was buying this car another option was monte 1.6 oil chugger. I went for vRS as I always had a sensible, low cost cars and I finaly wanted something more smile inducing than looking at yo

  • Really??

  • LOL, I just checked my old vRS's oil, this never used any oil during daily or weekly use by me, and it was just recently serviced and given an Oil and Filter Change by me before i passed it on.. O

I confirm that mine (which has done less that 1,000 miles) has gone down, I regularly check the oil no matter what car I drive, and noticed that after a couople of hundred miles it had gone down a lot!

Mine had used about 600ml in 2000 miles, sounds like yours has used a lot though!

Fabia rs combi: 1700km and 0,5L :(

1l of oil came with my car for free, thanks to the dealer :)

Probably find it wasnt bang on the mark to start with though, most of the new cars come through short filled by about half a litre. Sales dept dont like paying for the oil as multiply that by every car and it gets quite expensive.

Quite naughty though don't you think.

Also which type of oil are you guys topping up with. The dealer has supplied me with a litre of 5w40 Castrol TXT which states on the bottle its for diesel PD engines. I queried this with them and the service manager confirmed it the same oil needed for the 1.4 tsi vRS. Wasn't convinced so haven't used it. Seems a bit strange.

505.01 or 5w40 PD oil is just fine for the 1.4 TSi and what I use.

I was told by the service department when I phoned them up that my 1.2 TSi should have 5w40 Fully Synthetic so I got the petrol version.

Quite right. A 1.2 TSi on fixed servicing requires VW 502 oil.

My wife's 1.2 TSi is a cracking little engine but it does love to drink oil unfortunately so you have watch the oil level like a hawk. Contrast this with her previous 1.4 16V Fabia which used hardly any oil between services.

I've had the oil light on twice in mine in 4k, keep forgetting to check it as my Leon TDi never used a drop in 2 years. Each time it ate a litre to get it back on the dipstick...

Think I need shares in shell now, super petrol and now oil lol

Checked my wifes 1.2 tsi today, now done 2,200 and oil was towards the max side of the dipstick! Happy as larry, i do like her car.....

What grade of oil have you all topped up with on the 1.2 tsi?0-30 or 0-40. Our 1.2 TSI is at 4500 miles and still half full by the dip but thought I should get some just in case. Both grades seem to comply with 502.00.

Also like the fact that the car bonnet sticker says Shell Helix but the filler cap says vw recomend Castrol! This Fabia is much less ashamed of its VW parts than my last Fabia II!

i tend to use 5w/30 fully synthetic, ive been told thats ok along with 5w/40 fully syn

Both 0-30 and 5-40 Castrol Edge oils meet VW 502 spec for fixed servicing intervals. I use the latter.

Wife's TSI 85 has done 1900 so far with no noticeable use of oil but I check it regularly having noted a number of Yeti owners mentioning oil use and in at least one instance a leak. Unfortunately I don't know the cause.

TP

I've got a Bocanegra with the 180TSI engine (Actually its 225 with the help of Revo). There are a lot of people who are getting very bad oil consumption on the TSi. Mine has used less than 0.5lts in 16k miles and I check often. I think its all down to how you bed the engine in. I gave mine a nice mix of all engine speeds and didn't worry about keeping the rev's low. 2 others on the form did the same and they also use very little oil. My car made 194BHP on the roller pre map and also does 46mpg-55mpg on a 60/70mph run. There do seem to be a lot of issues with other peoples engines. Seems that if you make it past about 6000k miles your usually good to go.

Mine drinks oil like its going out of fashion, I've had it since 600 miles old and I'm on 4600 now, its had 3 litres total since I've owned it. Its a Fabia vRS with the TSi 180 engine.

Having read this post I thought I'd better check the level on my car, it was just within the limit, I put approx half a litre in, think I'd better keep my eye on it?

Mines the 105 and must admit when I first read this thread I checked it straight away and have done a couple of times since but so far so good still showing full on the dipstick and now just past 2500 miles...

Well I`ve checked mine again today and it hasnt used any in the 1000 miles since i put some more in.

Got Castrol Edge last night in an Asda superstore! £10 for a litre vs £16 in Halfords!

  • 1 year later...

There is a known problem with these and oil now so get them booked in for a check

LOL...holy thread revival!! There are a lot more recent thread on oil usage/engine rebuilds...

Now at 12K miles without any oil usage. 105TSI DSG7. MFD still reads service at 18,641miles or 540days.
