I am in a pickle ... cant make up my mind .. My Yeti is ready to pick from london in a few days. Is it worth while having them deliver it to Carlisle which is easier for me to get to or go there to get it my self ......what are the pro's and con's ? :wonder:

train down and enjoy the ride back, whats the point in getting a new car and not going for a blast, id know id be eager the drive it as much as possible

Is that driven delivered or truck delivered? If its truck delivered then I don't think it would be that much of a problem.

I would hate to think that my new car was going to be driven on a long journey by a " Careful" driver......................Not.....................I'd rag it....... Quicker I get it delivered quicker I get home

Go and pick it up yourself..................I would. emoticon-0144-nod.gif

The cost of a single rail ticket (try thetrainline.com' or 'redspottedhanky.co.uk' ) will be much less than the cost of having it delivered.

Also if it is driven up by a delivery driver you can bet that it will be flogged hard, if you drive it back you will treat it with respect - no need to go slow, just don't let it labour or rev it too hard in any gear.

Collecting it will also give you the chance to inspect the vehicle before hand-over, hopefully no problems, but if there are you are on the spot to get them fixed.

You will also get the chance to get used to the vehicle on a decent journey on a road that needs no navigation (M1/M6), the slight down side might be getting from the dealer's premises to the bottom of the M1, but the motorways are all signposted "M1 & The North" from all round London. - collect it and enjoy the journey...

It would be driven up by one of their drivers MY-YETI . My problem is that i would have to travel to london on the over night train arriving with the air of the great unwashed then have the long drive up having not slept that well on the train ... :S

Why not get a friend to take you down the day before, get a B&B, go for a few lagers, get up next day and drive your new car home! ;)

I had to collect a car from Bridgewater in Somerset once and drive it back to Germany, totally enjoyed it and wouldn't have changed a thing. You have to take your car for a decent drive when you first pick it up, IT'S THE LAW! :giggle:

Doesn't matter who's driver, they still won't take as much care as you..

9.09hrs Carlisle arrives London Euston 13.04hrs (& that includes 20 or so mins at Crewe) Ticket price £58, or go earlier non stop (1/2 hour shorter) and pay £91

Bulk of the drive back is in daylight, the dark bit will be on roads you are familiar with, or you can book a lodge for £29 and stop somewhere around Birmingham.

P.S. And the trains lean into every corner now too!!

Years ago I worked for a large contract hire company, based in South London, that delivered new cars all over the UK, using our own drivers. Whilst I would never criticise all delivery drivers, some of whom were very conscientious and careful, there were others that drove like a bat out of hell at every opportunity. I would never advise having a new car delivered such a long distance by road, it's pot luck how well it's driven, and you will never know! Tony

Fly down! Its a fun trip and may cost less than you think. When I had some specialist work done on my MR2 in Durham I flew from Gatwick to Newcastle and it was cheaper than the train at the time. It all adds to the special event feeling for you.

Just a suggestion. ;)

We got two £10 rail singles to Euston from Manchester. Had a lovely dinner in Chiswick and collected Yeti next day.

It was a wonderful drive back to Manchester!! Much cheaper than a "transporter" delivery. :)

Collected mine in person and must say it was an enjoyable day out. Caught the train down in the morning and drove back mid-afternoon.

I wanted to check over my purchase before handing over my hard earned cash plus apart from the 4 miles delivery mileage I've been the only driver so know exactly how well it's been cared for.

Go on have one or two days away and enjoy the experience.

I'm sure you made the right decision. There was also the problem of trying to check the bodywork of a possibly wet and dirty car after a long journey up the motorway. Best of luck, you'll love the car.

Definitely the right decision.

I am curious though, if you live in Carlisle why is the SM coming from London?

Hope you enjoy the drive home

I used to live in Newark, but moved for anagrammatical reasons.
