I rang yesterday.

I am going to see them in person next week - first day the open. I am in no rush to change and the car has not been built yet.

John

They're doing 11% off on Drive the Deal at the moment. If they can maintain that when the new discount kicks in, heck, I might even think about changing my car.

Could be a great opportunity to switch to petrol. If we are heading into periods of cold winters diesel is going to get a lot more expensive than petrol.

I'm keeping a close eye on the SUK website to see when they actually announce the new offers for 2011.

Does anyone know how the DVLA are set up to work over the holiday period ? When can cars be registered, is it a computer dealer access web portal that's open 24/7 ?

I'm not able to sort my insurance out for taxing the thing until the new year, then the only time I'll be able to collect is from the 8th onwards :(

So far, nothing seems to be confirmed as a Skoda campaign and even less so if the vRS is included. Generally speaking these campaigns exclude the vRS from such offers although the latest VAT free offer did include the Octavia vRS (not the Fabia vRS though.)

If this huge discount is to be introduced on the 4th January then why don't dealers know about it already? They usually get notice of upcoming offers around a month before they're introduced, not a week or the day before!

I will say this though. My car is to be built week 1 for delivery around end of January. How do I stand if this offer IS introduced on 4th January and DOES include the Fabia vRS? Can I refuse to pay for the car on my deal and make the dealer re-do it on this new one? The discount would be substantially more than I secured, even taking into account the new VAT rate.

Obviously I would still buy the car I ordered so it wouldn't be a straight cancellation but I would want it on the latest deal.

Any thoughts and more importantly any confirmation from actual dealers or even Skoda themselves that this offer is both genuine and includes the Fabia MkII vRS??!!

OK , this is getting more complicated.

I received a leaflet through the post last week - my wife thought it was a Christmas card so did not open it until late last night - it was from the dealers. The 20% or no VAT offer was only for 2 days 29th/30th Dec and the car had to be in stock at the dealers ?? Thats why when I rang them about this they only offered me the demonstrator vRS - they had no other vRS's.

John

I bought a Golf GTI in 2000, two days after I picked it up they dropped the list price. VAG gave money back to everyone who picked up after the price change but not me!

You should be ok if there is a price change.

I hope you are correct. Though when I ordered the car I mentioned about possible future "Skoda Offers" and they said they would automatically move my order onto a better deal if one came up before I collected the car. I will make sure this is the case when I speak to them next week.

Don't worry.

Skoda UK buoyed up by their "success" this year, feel so confident will put up their prices by 20% on Jan 2 and the dealers will be instructed to offer no discount.

People will still be forming long queues around the block to places multiple orders.

And existing customers will sleep sound knowing their cars will not lose value but actually appreciate by several percent per year......

I saw it all in a dream......... :moon:

And the Fabia vrs is still available from a broker for £13895. Who would pay list price?

Exactly.

Hi Guys, I saw this thread a couple of days ago and it interested us.

My mums vrs is 4 years old, looking at replacement. The vRS was ruled out due to the gearbox, we wanted manual, but at this price we would make exceptions!

I spoke to our local dealer and he seemed to think the vat free would be including the vrs come January, but he couldn't 100% confirm this!

So it could be true

I've been back into the stealers today

Petrol Skoda's inc the Fabie Vrs are subject to a 20% discount form 04th Jan 2011

So what does that mean for people like me who ordered one in November but won't get it until late January? It hasn't been built yet, build week 1, but I have left a deposit and signed the order form?

Getting very sick as a parrot now.

If you have not been invoiced yet, you will get invoiced in jan with 20% vat, so if SKODA and not the dealer are running offers then you should get the same discount as I would?

If you got additional discount from your dealer then you should be able to push for that as well as the vat free. As all dealers discounts come from their margin not supported by Skoda UK

I've got a signed order form but nothing else yet. I'm at the stage of waiting for the car to be built then the dealer will contact me regarding delivery.

I did get a reasonable discount at the time of ordering and this was based at 17.5% VAT. I also got the 2 years 0% finance deal but this only applies to cars ordered in 2010 so I don't know where I'd stand with that.

Basically, despite the discount being offered by Skoda not the dealer, does this mean the extra discount will automatically be applied at invoice or will I have to fight tooth and nail to get it? Can the dealer refuse to apply the discount as it's an existing order not a new one?

So many questions and no concrete answers!

I suspect that since you have paid a deposit you have already entered into a contract at the agreed price. Any deviation from the contract will be entirely at the dealers discretion. However I would hope for some form of goodwill. I would suggest that you need to wait until the details of any new offers are published and then go and discuss things with the dealer.

Absolutely, I would agree with that. At the moment it's all hear say with no official word from Skoda as of yet.

I can't comment on the contract part except to say that I have agreed to buy the car that I ordered and that if I were to cancel it then the dealer could impose penalties. However, since I'm not cancelling the order but the deal has changed (we're assuming) on the manufacturer's part then I don't know what I'd be entitled to and what would be at discretion.

Put it this way - if you pre-order something that isn't in stock yet and the price changes in between then there's nothing to stop you either cancelling the pre-order and then buying the same thing at the new price or being offered the new price when it comes into stock. Surely the same must apply to a car?

Having never been in a potential situation like this before I have no idea about what I'm entitled to or how much begging I have to do. I'm not one to go in all guns blazing and I like to make sure my facts are right first before entering into discussions.

Anyone else in a similar situation here?

Yes but even closer to handing over the dosh, mine should have been here last week, but what with the previous weeks snow delays it be be delivered this week. It then needs the PDI and registering.

I'm not doing a thing now until the 4th is showing on my calender ;)

If Skoda reduce the VAT on the Fabia vRS I cannot see why the dealers cannot pass this VAT change on to the customer.

They only obstacle I can see is if you take delivery of the car before the offers starts. I did suggest this situation to the dealer

when I was ordering my vRS ( still not built yet !) he said he would automatically alter my order to include the reduced VAT.

Tomorrow I will have a "chat" to my dealer to sort out whats going on. I might even ADD some items to the order if the VAT

change comes about. emoticon-0100-smile.gif

I have had an excellent relationship with my dealer for the last 7 years - I do hope this is not going to a major problem.

Had a chat with 3 Skoda dealers today and this is real, and it will happen 'soon' and if I ordered a car today they would all make sure I got whatever the price was at the time of DELIVERY if that deal was better than they one they could do me now.

The people I feel sorry for are the ones who have just taken delivery at the old price as they have quite literally lost 17.5% minimum overnight in terms of their residuals.

It's worth noting that SEAT are also now doing this offer.

4th Jan 2011, as stated in my Original Post

They lost that anyway as soon as it left the showroom.

They lost that anyway as soon as it left the showroom.

It's worse than that though.

Say you bought a vRS for £15500, and you wanted to sell it a year later. You would probably have got 80% of the new price for it - say £13000

But, now you can buy a new vRS for £13000 so a used one has to be worth less, say £11,000 now. It's a complete disaster for the residuals of anyone who bought one when they first came out.

If they had dropped the list price, then that would certainly be true. What they are doing is a promotional offer that can be withdrawn at any time, leaving the list price the same. The vat-free offer is not really any different than negotiating a really good deal. Except that you don't have to bother negotiating.

What has really happened here is that Skoda has brought out a new product that they know will cause a lot of interest and that will sell well. It is excluded from the current vat-free offers and it still sells well! They rake in a good chunk of profit margin from the suckers early adopters, and include it in the new offer to be sure to maintain sales momentum.

Plenty of manufacturers do similar things, look at Apple!
