Fuel additive (Millers). Also 2012 Yeti spec.

Featured Replies

For the last 3 years I have reguarly put into both my Octavia and my wifes Fabia. Millers Oils additive Power Sport now called Eco Max.

http://www.millersoils.net/1_Millers_r_AUTO_RETAIL_fuel.htm

Noticed a difference in both smoothness and acceleration at low revs and perhaps slightly better economy. Partly brought on by non confidence in some diesel which caused much more smoking in particular Sainsburys City diesel and Jet which seemed mucky stuff.

I live near to Millers and buy it from their trade counter and the bloke there says they sell loads and get really good feedback. also from a few friends who now use it.

Any thoughts?

Not yet ordered my Yeti awaiting sunroof if poss and interested in 2012 specs.

I am afraid that there is a tendency to believe that something you have paid good money for also has a positive effect.

IMHO, it will not cure bad diesel fuel (water) of anything and with good clean fuel is not necessary or even beneficial.

You did ask...................

Yes, in other words much like the well-known placebo effect in medicine (which recent research shows to work even when patients have been told they're taking a placebo and not actual medication - the power of the human mind!).

Seems these reviewers were pleased with the stuff.

Rather dissapointed with the first two rather smug replies even one from a fellow Yorkshireman or have you come to gods own county from down south?

Millers may have been a good idea in the past but with modern high-tech diesels it is totally unnecessary and save your money

I used it in My MKI Octavia 110 TDi and MKI Superb PD130 with no noticeable effect at all.

However in SWMBO's Fiesta TDCi it did make the engine run a bit quieter, in her new(er) Golf 105PD however yet again it make no difference (power, noise or MPG).

You probably won't be impressed with my findings either going by your comment above, but what do you really want? an honest report or just to be told how great the stuff is?

Not smug, just pragmatic, which I thought a Yorkshireman would admire. And yes, I'm a refugee kentish Man.

Would hot mind seeing your SM when it arrives as colour/leather and spec for mine may well be the same but with 140 DSG.

Still not seen Gobi leather.

Cheers

Happy to try and arrange this - hope my SM is being built this week ready for 1 March collection. I went for the Muscavado/Gobi combination (after having originally ordered Cappucino/Onyx, like my current Octavia Scout) when I saw a second-hand SM (but not 4x4, with no extra goodies and £500 above listed new price) with this combination in a Middlesbrough dealer's. It looked stunning - I drove straight to my dealer in Darlington and changed my order!

So pleased to read the above. We have a Fabia in Cappucino/Onyx - which we particularly like for not showing the dirt (till it is washed !!), We have also chosen Muscavado/Gobi combination for our recently ordered SM170. Also bought in advance the wood effect dash trim - now adorning the wall in front of my desk. Looking at a recent photo of a RHD with Gobi interior I noticed that wood effect trim was present so hoping my advance purchase will not be in vain on new model !!

Yes, I've also ordered the wood-effect trim from the wonderful James at Allams (not arrived yet) but am now hoping it hasn't suddenly become a standard fixture. There's always Ebay!

The Gobi interior is great, I have it on my Candy White CR140 CR185 DSG with the wood trim.

Hi Maffa.

Millers - Excellent product!!! Used it for years! Especially after:

  • An MOT where the examiner said that we “passed everything except the emissions. Put a double dose of millers in and take it for a twenty minute run and bring it backâ€

Did as I was told and “Passed emissions with flying colours!!!â€

  • Last car was a Mercedes A class, owned from new (Picked it up at the factory in Germany - Come on Skoda!!!) At nine years old, an MOT examiner (different one) asked if I was using Millers as the emissions were so good with a car of that age!

Were I still a "DieselHead", then I would definitely still be using it as I found the engine smoother, better acceleration and slightly better MPG. as you do.

Would probably have got the same result if you had just taken it for a 20 min thrash!

No! just had a 30 minute drive down the motorway at 60/70 prior to MOT - It was definitely the Millers that made the difference

Where's the motorway in N Norfolk?

Where's the motorway in N Norfolk?

Used to live in Lancashire - Decided I had had enough rain to last a lifetime and moved to sunny Norfolkemoticon-0148-yes.gifemoticon-0144-nod.gif

Despite living in West Suffolk I always used to take my old Passat to the VW dealer in Ipswich (I worked in that direction). Never ever had a problem with the emissions because when I drove it there first thing in the morning I made sure it's tubes were well cleared out. So 70mph alone was not enough, hard acceleration (occasional bouncing off the rev limiter) and 70mph in 3rd, 4th as well as top were the order of the day.

Where's the motorway in N Norfolk?

I once drove through Norfolk, going north after visiting a customer in Norwich. I never once made it above 50mph in a spell of around 1 1/2 hours. Hugely frustrating as I had another 200 + miles to go after escaping the area. On the up side the traffic did flow fairly steadily so my fuel economy was probably the best it has ever been. I am not going to be smug however as I live in Northumberland, home of the single carriageway A1, surely the worst and most frustrating road in Britain.

Back on topic...

I put Millers in when I fill up with supermarket fuel, to make up for the lack of additives - in particular injector cleaner. I don't bother when I use branded fuel, however (usually regular Shell stuff).

It helps stop the exhaust being so smoky (clean injectors), and perhaps a little smoother (hard to measure) but I certainly don't credit it with any 'increased performance'.

As for VAG not recommending additives in their engines (certainly for the PD diesels, don't know about CR), the times I had dealer services, they used injector cleaner (Wynn's, I think) and included it on the invoice, so they clearly didn't think there was any risk to the engine.

" escaping the area " Did you thing you might be kidnapped or be mauled by " Old Shuck " the fearsome Ghost of a big black dog that roams these parts. Pleased that you made it out safely every year we have people visit then then never to been seen again after entering the Norwich one way system !!

There are many things to fear entering that part of the world, did you know Deliverance was filmed there and not the Deep South of the USA as commonly thought? Actually, I enjoyed my little stay although I was disconcerted by the freakishly flat nature of the place, I have never seen anywhere quite so flat before. Living in a place where car speed is soooooo restricted was a tad frustrating though, that from someone who genuinely does not speed but does like to move around faster than a horse and cart. In my experience you badly need some decent dual carriageways although I am sure you know that already.

My mum used to live in Swaffham, then Morpeth (by coincidence) and now near us - so I know Norfolk fairly well myself. One sugarbeet lorry on the A17, and that's it! :(

I drove from Alicante to Bilbao , Portsmouth to Norwich ALL main roads were dual carriageway or motorway except when we hit the Norfolk border, only signal track road I encountered !!! That strech on the A11 should be dualled starting 2015 then we will be able to drive from Norwich to London on Dual Carriage or motorway.
