I've had Avons on all cars I've had so far - the Renault had 90 bhp and it still had plenty of grip on those, but I must admit the Furby vRS may push it a lot more, considering I got wheelspin in the first 2 gears during the test drive.

Admittedly I pretty much dropped the clutch and nailed it though, which isn't the way to drive off fast when on a slippery surface going uphill from a standing start

When I was getting my car serviced last weekend at Rainworths' date=' they had 2 unregistered Fabia vRS's round the back and they both had Continental SportContact II's on.

They look like they'll be much better than the Michellin's, as they're the type fitted to some Porsches!

Is it me, or are 205/45/16's a bit of an odd size? They're proper expensive!

I was tempted to go for 215/40/16's as they are more common and a lot cheaper (and only something like 2% difference in rolling radius).

The Kumhos (although tall-looking compared to the Michellins due to their squarer design) seem to be a good compromise between grip and cost.

We'll see how long they last over the next few months![/quote']

Why would they be more expensive than lower profile and wider tyres?? For my 2.0 with the 15" rims I originally had dunlops at 195/45, and at about 45,000kms I had them changed to falkens 205/50s. Sure, they look a little 'fatter', but they handle much better, look great from all around pretty much, and cover up those wheel arches even more :D

Tell me though, do you guys know if it is possible to get 205/45s for a 15" rim? I've seen it on a modified golf, but i believe theyre pretty damn rare.

On the flip side of the question, which are the grippiest softer tyres to go for as I tend to give my vRS some beans and like expensive decent tyres?

maybe bridgestone pole position?

Has anyone who has tried Kumho's on their car got any opinion about them? I know that they make really good tyres for rallying (current Irish tarmac champion uses them) and was wondering what their normal road ones were like!

are kleber dynaxer any good? seen nothing in reviews and no one has mentioned them.I have never heard of them until I was just doing some tyre shopping

I had Kleber on my old GTE... was some years ago now.. IMO the grip was crap and they lasted about 20 mins... Nangkang were better and cheaper option

Got about 12K from the pilots on the front of my car. Didnt really like them, so didn't bother swapping front and back to prolong their life. Wet grip was not a strong point IMO!!

Put a set of Toyo Proxes T1-S on the front and am very happy with them, overall. Find that they don't have the initial bite i like, but I know I can trust them more, and int he rain and snow they are excellent.

But, like some were saying of the Khumos, the Toyos look like they are a slightly taller profile, even though they are not!! Strange eh?

As i have said already on another post, i have used/abused almost every tyre manufacturer known to man (well, the popular ones anyway) and i have to say that my current ContiSport II's are way out in the lead in terms of wear, performance, road noise and grip. But thats just my opinion.

I've clocked 59K on my rears - Dunlops. I had to switch the front Dunlops at 32K, due to a bulge in the passenger side one. So it will only be another 4000 before those replaced fronts have done 32k aswell. :D

As a rule of thumb you should be able to get 40k to 60k on a set of tyres. If not you're probably a chav.

Regards,

The Michelin Pilot Sports on my Octy vRS have done 23000 miles and are only now needing replaced. I swapped them front to back at about 16000. The Dunlop SP sports original equipment lasted about 21k. Compare this to the pitiful 16k I got out of a set of 185/60 14 Pirellis on my bog standard 1.6 Seat Cordoba (75 Bhp!).

Swapped the Michelin Premacy fronts to the rear at the 20k service and they still have a bit left in them.

Rears had plenty left in them.

Will change all four to something a bit more grippy soon probably F1s, T1Rs or PZero nero/rosso. :)

Just had Vredestein Sportrac 2's fitted. They won best tyre overall in the Auto Express annual test. Very good in dry and wet. Outstanding in standing water tests and not too noisy or fast wearing.

Had them on last car and they were great. They feel miles better than the Michelins esp on turn in which is now v crisp.

I paid

Michelin Exalto are Which? mag's (very unbiased!) recommendation for this tyre size. Exalto & Primacy are the same price and on offer this week (only til Sun) with 20% off if you buy 4, at branches of COSTCO-works out at

Or you don't drive like Miss Daisy :P

Chris

i think i would of got about 9k out of my contis contact sport 2 on the front but i think they great tyres in the wet and dry and mud and so on but hay thats my view . going stick with them :)

havn't read the whole tread so may be repeating someone but if your interested - costco have a special this week 20% off mich tyres if you buy 4

oops - I have repeated...sorry

My favourite tyres are Toyo Proxes!

On my current little Fiesta Zetec-s I wouldn't have anything else (although there are some goodyears on the rear :o)

I dont know anybody or anything that's ever had 40-60K out of a set of tyres unless perhaps they're mounted on a deep sea trawler! Chav indeed-Get real!

Saw a conflicting opinion from Kentish I think.

Oh well,we will have to see.I have to drive like a vicar most of the time(rush hour) so they should see 100K :D

conti 2 on fab vrs. 16k on the clock, 6mm on rears, 4mm on fronts just rotated and should be due for a all round change towards the end of the summer.

a little noisey, but great overall.

Yesterday I had 4 new Pirelli P-Zero Neros fitted to my pocketrocket.

They are outstanding. Quieter, more dry grip, more wet grip and more progressive breakaway than the standard fit Bridgestones.

Power is nothing without control..........

Well explain the 59,600 miles on my rears then! You've heard it here.. so there you go.. infact - I think I'll take a photo of the tread and show you the actual state of my dunlops after all those lovely miles I've travelled.

Regards,

:wavey: Changed my fronts at 40k. The rears look like they will make it to 60 quite happily.

I certainly don't hang around , but it's mostly motorway mileage so not too hard wearing on the tyres.

My dad's sierra estate got to 78k on the original tyres but he used to rotate all 5 including the spare every couple of thousand miles.

Had I done the same on my octy I'd have made it to about 65k before all 5 needed replacing.
