Maidstone Meet March 2011

Featured Replies

Have not yet consulted with the husband (cos he is working), but,,,,Who is a little less than impressed with the White Rabbit now? :wonder: My food last night was still the same price, but has been ponced up. By that I mean less food presented to seem posh. My butterfly chicken was in fact two small BURNT  chunks of dry meat! my chips were better, but fewer and in a jenga pile.Would have sent it back but it had taken so long to arrive I was hungry.

To all you people who live in and around Maidstone/central Kent ( Maidstone was picked because we have a large cachment area  )are there any decent pubs  that can accomodate a varying number of people and cars monthly?

Ideas please.

Kathy

This looks like a good bet. Easy to get to with great views.

Yeah I know that one Des, my mate's boat is in that Marina. I believe the food is ok.

It can get very rowdy in there, heaving in the summer & some of us don't drink S*hit n Screame beers!

I'll try anything once though!:rofl:

Your voice was quite cute last night Kath! :giggle:

Good night last night, good company. Nice to see some new faces.

Food wise, my fish n chips were not up the usual White Rabbit standard.

Not as bad as the Sunday lunch last month but I might as well have gone to a chippie with a hot plate & asked them to chuck a cod n chips on it & leave it keeeping warm somewhere untill the fish dried out! Then I could've added some undercooked peas & tucked in! :notme:

I would say that anywhere that is 'popular' on a Saturday night is probably going to have a long(ish) wait for food. Don't mind waiting if it's good though........ the pie I had was not as good as in the past, the the pastry top was a bit 'crispy'.....

Kathy - It's really odd though that when you (well Steve) ordered your food first, and was one of the last to arrive, me thinks that the kitchen is not that organised.........

I'll ask around and see if anyone can come up with some recommendations for a place with good food and proper beer  (for Simon, of course!!!).

J

PS - I suppose it better have a half decent wine list as well!!!! :giggle:

I guess the Malta Inn ticks the boxes in the winter but would be too busy in the summer?

What about the Wagon at Hale or the Ringlestone Inn?

Or that Harvester at the bottom of Blue Bell hill? Is that too Pykie?

Thanks for your concern J!

Thinking possibly medway towns ,but need to remember we travel up from Dover :D. Have just croaked to Steve who is happy to drive a LITTLE further than Maidstone. He is considering phoning White Rabbit to ask what has happened to their food!!

Thanks Simon, but getting really fed up with having this croaky voice.Just had a phone call from my sister and she sounds exactly the same. Not good!

Kathy

afterthought. Maybe we need a country pub that we can build a relationship with the landlord.

Count me in.

Hope you've booked a big table Steve!!!! :D

just re read this thread. Your comment here made me laugh after what happened last night with our booking.:giggle:

That's kind of why I suggested the Ringlestone, although it is a Sheps one & the reviews are mixed.

It's accesible from J20 M20.

Is the Ringlestone a Shep's now?

Sounds like a bad experience last night.

As already mentioned about the Malta inn is very busy, and i don't fancy there car park much!!

As Kathy said we need to find a "owned" pub where we can build up a good relationship with the License.

There is one not to far from the Ringlstone that might be a possibility,

Will have a look if i can find it.

What about the Chiltern Hundreds Pub its at the sittingbourne juntion, The other is the pub in the notcutts complex, Kentscoobies use it for their meets there's one there in a couple of weeks, I'll pop along and see what its like and let you know if its any good

Cool!

Long story, but I ended up at “The Oak on the Green” in Bearsted tonight. Approx 1.5 miles from J7 on the M20.

Food was excellent and served quickly (especially as all the tables in the restaurant area were full), it's a "free house" so the drinks are good - I think they had 4 proper beers available tonight (untested as I was driving :giggle: ). The wine list did not look bad either!

Downsides.......

1. Car park is quite small – we could probably get away with blocking one another in if there was a few of us parked next to one another.

2. Always busy - waitress I got chatting to says it's busy every day of the week (she recommended booking in advance next time)

3. Price – not that cheap, but the portions are bigger than at the White Rabbit and not burnt!

4. It was packed with people in the restaurant area and the bar area.

Have a look at the website - http://www.oakonthegreen.com/ for more information.

Pub in the Notcutts complex - is it this one????

If it is, the menu certainly doesn't look too bad and is reasonably priced.....

Thats the one, going along a week on friday for the scooby meet, if anyone else fancies popping in let me know and we'll meet up, after all I'm a briskodian at heart and a newbie in the kent scooby scene, I've only got part of an impreza and that doesn't go

The Harvester is OK, if you like a long wait for service, the car park is accross the road where people drive like loonies and is 1/4 of the size of the White Rabbit.

There is a pub out towards Harritetsham on the A20 off junction 8 of the M20. As I recall, it's a regular haunt of the MG Owners club.... (yes I used to be a member, many cars ago.... still miss my MG ZT... :'( ) If I get a chance over the next few days, I'll have a drive out there and see what I can find out.

Are you talking about the Park Gate Inn?

Been in there a few times staff have always been friendly and the food pretty decent.
