Seat Leon Cupra R

Featured Replies

Advice needed...

My sister is test driving a Seat Leon Cupra R on Saturday with a view to actually getting one!!!

What should I do?

Is it time for me to get the full AmD treatment?

Perhaps a spot of engine blueprinting? ;)

She is going to be doing a fair few miles in it so I've said running costs may be a bit of an issue

Not that I'm jealous or anything...

Why not chop your Octy in for an RS6? That'll pi55 her off :D

If I can get enough interest I'll organise a group buy!!!

Perhaps that should be a group buying one RS6

Youll find that a remapped octy will prob be even if not slightly faster than a leon... the octy has a better, more aerodynamic shape... so you will have the upper hand over 100mph (on your private track of course) ;)

also the octy RS handles better and has better fuel economy :)

this is the 225 BHP ?

Steve

this is the 225 BHP ?

According to Jabba's website it's 210bhp, remappable to 256-276bhp!

Chris

Octy vRS handling better than a Leon Cupra R,never read that before.

the couple i've driven have never seemed to have the understeer that the Octy vRS has,or am i missing something???

I love these.Just don't like the ugly(IMO) rear

I love the rear of the Leon. Is she test driving the 210 or 225?

I really like the LCR too. When I got the vRS it was deciding between the new vRS or a 12mth old LCR. I went for the vRS because a) it was new, B) I can choose the options I wanted, c) it has a bigger boot  and d) you can remap the vRS to the same power as the 225 LCR anyway

Just to head off all the "Remapped Octy will be faster than a std Leon" comments, if she values the warranty and wants the power she's as well having the Leon.

Has she tried a new Impreza WRX? They are going with 3 years free servicing at the momment ;)

And a six year warranty, no less!

Or a baby Evo , again 3 years free servicing :D

...and of course, a remapped LCR 225 would be MUCH faster than a remapped Octy...

the new lcr is 225, it has the s3 engine with a bigger turbo, better cooling, different internals, better manifolds and different exhausts so quite how a vRS can map to the same i don't know. the 225's map to around 265 without many if any other mods.

apparently the older 210 engines were better, but that came from someone i know with a 210 s3

Looking a the performance figures for the 2 cars it seems as if the Leon will be 0.5-1.0 seconds quicker on the 0-60. :(

She'll have to run the Leon in - so I'll be alright for a few weeks anyway...

I'll mention the Scoobie and Evo options too - although that will just make it worse :D

If only I had some spare cash and no warranty to worry about things could be made more equal ;)

cupra R stops better(big ass brembo's)

wouldn't like to come up against one tbh, followed a mate in his chipped cupra few weeks back, that fact that he could see better than me helped alot, bloody awful dipped octy lights.both running revo, cept mine was the 4 bar map.

chipped leon R with the right driver,ta ta octy i'm afraid(straights or twisties)

oh forg to to mention the seat sport suspension set up

My mate has a standard 225 LCR and now mine is chipped i can keep with him, you just have to be brave!! (or at least braver than a LCR driver) I still much prefer mine to his and when i get some good brakes it will be even better... he wont be getting his remapped which is a relief ;)

Which isn't that good... believe me ;) "feels" good, until you really start to throw the car around, and then it just leans...

Part of the "agile chassis" concept was to, compared to the Cupra, reduce the rear ride height a further 9mm, stiffen the dampers, soften the springs, and reduce the size of the anti-roll bars "to make it respond quicker". Think the rear track is wider though!!

Even so, I remember at Brunty last year I could pass a lot of the Octys - some storm past (probably not the chipped ones), and others were a closer call (the conservatively chipped ones perhaps? I don't know). Could be that there were some on the track quicker than me on the straights - I won't deny the possibility, just say that no-one passed me (but if they were only slowly gaining, as I was sometimes only slowly passing...)

Don't get me wrong, I love my R, but with all cars, there are parts that can be improved...

and you still can't make your mind up on who to remap it.

jason waits for an avalanch of Jabba jabba jabba
