Given the choice, which would you go for, and why?

Bit late to ask, as I've just gone for some Michelins for a change, but would be interested in your comments

Mich - but mainly because I'm spending your money not mine.

:p

Seriously, for only another 20 quid they have to be the right answer?

Sessanta had these on many of my cars. Cant fault them quiet, great in the wet.

IMO better than the Mich

Vredestein gets good ratings except for its wear rate and for the difference in price, as it means get another few thousand miles less than the Mich PS3, which I love as have on TSI VRS, and the Contis too which I have on the wiesel estate, unless I worked next to a tyre dealer, I would not consider.

Just wish Skoda would stop supplying cr*p tyres as OE ie Bridgestone RE050s and Dunlop Sports Maxx GTs!

Had this exact discussion last week with my R26 owning friend. I'd spotted the small price difference on Camskill as well.

Sessantas used to be particularly good value and they're a decent tyre. But IMO they've now increased the price too much and have stepped into the 'A1 premium' category.

I'm confident you'll get better wear from the PS3 while also having an extremely well performing tyre. I'd not gone for its older brother the PS2 based on the fact you could afford to change tyres more often, and still get good value. But not now there's only £22 in it, IMO.

Right choice Bry

I was looking at them both.. 122 fitted for 18s? Thats a VERY GOOD price..

Just swapped my set of PS3's .. were really good when i got the car.. (2nd hand tyres) but didnt seem to last long with what rubber was on them... less than 1 year and all 4 changed

When i was looking to replace them, it was roughtly that + deliv + fitting.. worked out 146 each..

So bit the bulet and went for the new f1 asyometrics.. Cant really comment much on them yet.. Seem to feel grippy in all conditions so far...

/me grabs the table

Was going to try the VUS.. just because of the tred design hehe..

£122 is price inc delivery - will have to pay for fitting, but still a bargain

PS3 tyre only from Camskill was £127.90 last week. So yes, good price. Not sure if Brimma was quoting a fitted price.

Must check what Costco are doing them for, as they offer a good service and usually prefer Michelin over most others.

Didn't think the PS3 had been out as long as a year Mul?

F1 Assyms were also my shortlist. The ones I'd consider are attached...

Thought so - where was that from though? As Camskill are still quoting the same price as my post above.

I'm just about to try some Sessants, £105 fitted from my local place. I can't comment on performance between the PS3 and the VUS's, but i'm liking the outer shoulder on the VUS, looks like a good contact area for cornering. If people are saying that the PS3 is better and I can get them for the same price I might try those instead - I'm ordering one or the other next week!

EBay is your friend - there is a place advertising them at £130 delivered, or make me an offer, so I had £122 accepted - maybe should have tried less

Uniroyals for me!!

Uniroyals for me!!

Cheers Chris, which part of the question didn't you understand? (Smiley face)

Uniroyals for me!!

Same  225/40/18 £110 fitted for Rainsport 2's

Ooopss i also didnt understand the question :giggle:

I was mulling over the same question. I have had VUS and thought they were great but it sounds like PS3 may at least be as good. My only disappointment with my VUS was the wear rate in my case. For that reason, I'll be getting PS3s all round in a month or two.

PS3, had them on my VRS (after CSC2 and SportMaxx) and loved them.

dont know about the wear (sold the VRS noch much later) but they were grippier

than the SportMaxx. And the sportMaxx was much grippier than the CSC2.

Much more modern tyre than the Vredestein.

I had the Ultrac Sessantas on my previous car (Focus) and found them to be really good.

The problem with tyres and opinions on tyres is, that not many of the users have a back to back comparison of the tyres (on the same car).

And what was good in the past, doesnt have to be as good compared to modern tyres.

If a tyre is good on X car it doesnt have to be as good on Y car.

Lots of stuff to discuss about

Does the PS3 have a rim protecter?

I have always used Michelens, i love them. Someone told me recently (not sure if its true) that Michelen tyres have an extra 1mm of tread than most other brands.

Btw that is a cracking price for the PS3

Just called the tyre place that I use and have been quoted £149 fitted inc VAT for the PS3s! This is versus £105 fitted for the VUS's. think I am going to go with the Vreds. Even if the wear rate is higher they are a far bit cheaper to buy, even buying them cheaper of the net they are still going to come in at around £130-135 by the time they are fitted which is a fair bit more.

They do seem very good though!

Fitted 4 Vreds on my VRS back in October for £90 a corner fitted & don't regret it,very good tyre for the money.

£90 a corner fitted was what they used to cost. And that was a good deal. The price they are now makes them less of a decent purchase in my mind...

Yes they do have rim protection, also have heard about the 1mm extra, the fitter told me that when I had mine put on.

So far have done 13k miles on my PS3s on the front, compared to the 6.5k that the dunlops managed! Still have another couple of mm's above the markers so probably good for a little while longer...

One thing worth knowing is that KwikFit (yes I know, not ideal but they were the only one's with the PS3s in stock on the day I decided I needed them) will price match any competitor, including online and Costco. They didn't even ask for proof of the prices, or Costco membership...

I've had a few sets of the Sessantas and they are excellent in both wet and dry BUT they don't tend to wear that well. I'd go for the michelins as you'll get your money back.
