Are people happy with their 1.2 TSI.

Featured Replies

do you all think that the new 1.2 86 tsi is a lot better than the three pot 1.2 fabia sport which ive got now and which i can't fault it

because ive ordered a roomy tsi thaks pete

I have had a 1.2 (70) fabia 2 3 pot a 1.9TDI sport and now a 1.2TSI (86)ps was a 85bph before jan now classed as a 1.2TSI(86)ps plus.i do not know what the plus means. I prefer the 1.2 TSI very nippy

We,ve found the 1.2 105 engine amazing! Previous car to this was a Seat Ibeza 1.4, which performed awfully (mind you, it replaced a Fabia 1.9 VRS!).

But the 1.2 has exceeded all expectations - pulls well, "comfy" to drive (doesn't need thrashing) and is returning good mpg. Overall, very satisfied!

Haha funny you should say that, we replaced an Ibiza 1.9 PD 130 Sport with a 1.4 Polo, just a slight performance difference haha! New vRS Estate on the way to replace that now though!

I agree the 1.2 TSi is a fantastic little engine, not particularly economical if you have a lead foot but power delivery and refinement wise is a good league ahead of the CR. Saldy VAG have traded drivability for better refinement and emissions with the CR engine, much prefer the way the PD's drive even though they are noisy and a bit agricultural.

Yes have to agree, a fantastic little car overall. The power is there if you need it,but drive it sensibly and 50 plus on a run is acheiveable  Most people though are amazed when you tell them a 1.2 engine produces 105 bhp .Comfy on a long run and after owning my estate for some 10months, so far not a rattle or a squeak. It certainly feels as well screwed together as an Audi!!. The one or two bits I dont like are easily outnumbered by the rest of the package....

Couldn't agree more - the PD engines were real "drivers" engines! Had them in my last two Octy Estates - they kick off big time at about 1800 rpm; good fun! The CR engines (which I now have in a Yeti) are much tamer with the power delivery; nothing much happens before 2300 rpm, so a down change is often required for punch.

I absolutely love mine(6500 miles), very fun to drive, great economy for its capabilities and performance, loads of torque.

I have two questions, does the 1.2TSI has aluminum od cast iron engine block and I read on vwortex.com that 2.0TSI has a system that keeps cooling down the engine after it has been turned off, and my 1.2TSI when turned off keeps humming for some time(30seconds to couple of minutes) when it is very hot outside, you can hear it when you open the bonnet and listen to it carefully, at the moment when the humming stops you can hear like water bubbling for a second and it stops, so I wonder does anyone know if 1.2TSI has the same system that cools the engine down after switching it off when its hot.

Do you have the air-con running? It will increase consumption if you do. My best on a motorway at 70mph was 50.3 in one direction and 47.5 coming back the other way. It's still young yet, and there is plenty of time for it to improve.

got a 105TSI Estate. left Scotland with 850 miles on clock. did 2700 miles to and around south France and back and averaged 48mpg on all types of roads. very full and heavy boot! air con on a lot. mpg getting even better as mileage increases.

I've noticed the rad fan will keep running with the ignition off. I've heard the "humming/bubbling" that I think is the small pump that keeps cooling water going to the turbo.

My wife has had a Elegance TSI 85 for over a year now and it's by far the best petrol engine I've come across, pulls very well and can leave a lot of cars behind on a hill climb :)

Faults wise a few creaks and rattles, mainly with the front doors, which the deaf tech at our local garage says don't exist :giggle: and we lost HHC for a week before it strangely fixed itself :wonder:

Criticisms of the design, only two, the dipped beam could be brighter and the wheels; the Elba alloys look nice but the 16" rims are to big and the 205/45 tyres to low a profile. Result a fairly harsh ride on the poorly maintained roads of the Wolds and there totally useless in snow. Now run 195/55 R15 winters on steel rims which much improves things for 5 months of the year. Probably the bone shaker wheels that's caused the door creaks I suspect :S

The Fabia is 9 months old and belongs to the wife. It only does genteel stuff and the dog is only allowed in on a blanket! I drive it every chance I get because I love the combination of the TSI engine and the DSG box. I was a bit worried about fuel consumption on long, fast runs as we were getting around 35mpg. However, as it is running in it's improving and on a standard run last week we got over 40. Don't know if we will ever see the promised 55 though!

Totally off topic but just to round this off...

I was waiting to collect my mother in the Doctors Surgery today and got to reading the June (July?) edition of Classic Car. In that the editorial team were reviewing an owners Mk1 Cortina GT. I was transported back nearly 30 years and recalled how I had lusted over one of those. A Lotus Cortina was just too awesome to contemplate. They had contemporary reviews about the smoothness of the 5 bearing engine, and the power of the 1.6 litre engine and how great the performance was. Then I glanced at the specifications and saw that it produced a staggering 70bhp!

So I thought, I can re-live my youth by borrowing my wife's 85bhp TSi and get a 25% performance bonus as well! (The 105 TSi would obviously be way over the top).

So yes, the 85 TSi is more than adequate.

Compare the weights of the two cars if you can.

My original Mini was about 600 Kgs and the Escort about 700 Kgs. Compare that to the Octaivia's 1400 Kgs.

Newer cars far far safer, quieter. Auto gearboxes are now better than the manuals when it use to be the other way round.

Think the Mini was 32hp (850) but still will do 70 mph all day (except up the hill at the end of the M5 up on to the A38).

I've had a Fabia 1.2tsi 105 on loan for a few weeks and think it's fantastic. During a recent holiday to Norfolk it averaged 56mpg on the trip. The low rev torque is really impressive from such a small unit. Anyone buying one will not be disappointed.

2nd day of ownership from new and it did 48mpg on a 16mile run to work. Mixed driving, bit of traffic, country single carriageway A-roads.

Performance is very impressive :-)

Know what you mean...In another life I drove the Triumph 2.5PI in its Police Version, and the 0-60 time was 9.6....Back to the future and my 105 is just a shade over 10s....The difference is so muhc more has been packed into a 1.2...Oh yes and one other thing the PI used to drink petrol even when you wernt clogging it...Still think of the PI with huge affection though and always will........The young ladies were always inpressed...now if I`d told em in those days I had a Skoda..

Yeah, used to make a nice noise when you kicked down going on a call. Used to be a pain though sitting in traffic on a hot day, the petrol used to evaporate out of the injector unit leaving you completely buggered! :(
