Picked up a nasty 'Ding' in the passenger rear door

Featured Replies

Hi Folks...

We've all had it, got it, will get it...you know, a nasty ding in the side somewhere due to some clot in a car park. Well, happened to me a couple of weeks ago in a car park. I always park away from the affray of today's modern mayhem in the car parks, and I did on this occassion. Miles from the nearest car in a corner spot. However, Mr Total Clothead with no brain comes into car park and parks as close as he can to my car with his drivers door and then proceeds to open his door as carelessly as he can and with as much force as her could apparently. Result, a big ding in my door. His front door hit my rear door due to the careless way he parked. I didn't actually see this but was told what happened. He was gone when I came back to my car. Interpol are searching for him but apparently, the death penalty doesn't apply for this crime for some reason!! I'm surprised.

So...on recommendation went to DENT DEVILS of Colchester My link and they quoted £90 and said they could remove it completely and the marks on the paint. "Yeah, right" I said. "No really" he said. "it'll be like new" he retorted. So in went the car this morning for the job to be done. If you click the my link thingy...the guy in one of the photo's is Phil, the guy who removed my dent. He's the bee's knees.

WOW! is all I can say. The dent totally removed and you would never know it had ever been there. Just like new, no paint marks either. Can't recommend them enough. Even got a cup of tea as I waited. These guys are craftsmen I assure you. My Fabia Estate is very grateful. Me too!

Someone (in what could only be described as a noddy car) did this to the drivers side rear door of my Golf in the doctors car park a few months back.

I saw it right away and was fuming but only thought it was a small ding at the bottom. A few weeks later having caught the back door in suitable light it became apparent that said idiot had opened their door so hard they'd put a crease line down the door. Somewhat miraculously they hadnt damaged the paintwork at all!

Drives me mad the little amount of respect some people have for other peoples cars. My cars a company car so I can kind of live with such knocks and scrapes as in 18 months time i'll be in a new car but i'd like nothing more to stick such peoples heads in my door shut and slam some sense into them. Just because they drive some tin pot piece of s*it doesnt mean they have to abuse other peoples motors too......can feel the rage building!

The wifes Vrs and My Vrs both have "Dings" on the doors. Both passenger side

I was incandesant with rage too pipsyp. It makes my blood boil so I know how you feel. Auric, I can't recommend these dent people enough. I don't know where you hail from but if Dent Devils doesn't work in your area, some other organisation will for sure be able to do this sort of repair. I think there are several out there now who specialise in just this sort of thing. I can honestly say that even with my professional motor trade hat on I can't tell where the dent was. Even the metal around my dent was stretched and the paint marked. Now there's nothing. Can't detect ANY stretch marks, ripples or marks of any kind and I'm fussy as hell! It's like magic! My nephew runs his own bodyshop and even he would have knocked it out and skimmed and painted. It would not have cost me a penny to have done but I don't want my car in the oven again. I don't want a panel respraying if I can get away without it.

I did take some photo's before it was fixed but I don't think they will show the dent too well. I'll post them for amusement value later, plus the view now with the dent fixed.

Missus had hers for less than a week when we came back to find a nice wee green coloured dent on the rear passenger door. Was gutted. Looks like the knuckle from a motorbike brake, managed to get the paint off but keep putting off going to pay to get it fixed. Really annoying as it's right on the angle of the door so dead noticeable.

£90 wow, up north in sheffield i had about 6 small dents remove on different panels, the guy took an hour and a bit and charge me £40! on his van it is mark from £35 for whole car, plus he has been doing it for 10 years so he is good

Glad to hear this story has a happy ending. Must make a note of Dent Devils, they sound ace.

What puzzles me is when i park in a supermarket i try to park away from everyone with no cars near me and nearly everytime when i get back to the car there is always another car parked right next to me even though there are tons of spaces away from me.

I am seriously considering getting door strips fitted and colour coded to my new white fabia estate as it will offer a little bit of prottection.

Blimey Tony! everything really is cheaper up North then...but to put it into perspective, my nephews bodyshop would have charged £240 including VAT to do the job for Mr Average. He would want it for two days at least. But to reiterate, I would not have thought it possible for Dent Devils or anyone to just 'rub' the dent out like that from the inside, admittedly, using specialist equipment and with loads of experience. It really really is just as new again! Go get those dents fixed.

Chas...I know. It makes my blood boil sometimes that these people just don't use their brains a bit!

Has anyone got the side protection mouldings? And if so are they any good? They look tacky on the pictures and seem to be placed very low down on the door beneath where the door is at its most exposed oddly.

Glad you got it fixed to your satisfaction Estateman, guess some would do it for less but at the end of the day, £90 is not a lot to have it back as new. What is the answer to carpark dings?? I once parked on a large pub carpark in my new Volvo and a woman in a Range Rover came to park next to me, misjudged and smashed into my tail light and bumper. There was ALL the rest of the carpark she could have parked!!

I always park the miles away from everyone.. the mrs always gave me grief over it, but now shes got her new car she does the same

I had a new Rover 75 V6 Auto in 2002 and someone did this and dented the roof, it was three weeks old. If I'd have caught them I would probably be posting from Prison.

I have a dent too on the rear door probably by some careless driver only problem is that mine is on the crease of the door and they will probably need to strip the door to gain access and push it from inside. :(

Hi 32...yep...that's what they do. All dents are tackled from the inside and removal of the internal door panel is usually all that is required. Nearly all dents will be accessible like that but any that are hidden behind internal door protection bars may need other methodology. I'd say from your picture the dent on a crease like that will be a piece of cake to sort out.

they will just go past the window seal or drill hole in door, most dent man will not dismantle bits on car nowadays

They certainly won't drill a hole to pull that dent out when it is easily accessible from the inside by a five minute door panel removal job. the window seal won't give enough access for the work that will be needed. The dent will easily be rubbed and worked out, it doesn't take long with a skilled worker. It should be good as new when done, no respray required. They do of course as you say pull dents out, sometimes by drilling a hole when the inside of a panel is not easily accessible to rub or beat the dent out. We used suction where ever possible, only drilling if it is really necessary. Once a panel is drilled the whole panel has to be sprayed after the affected area has been worked, filled and treated. Makes it quite expensive.

This is the way to park your car in any shopping car park, park the car in the middle of 2 spaces and all will be fine, best to do it on the last 2 bays close to a shrub border or similar, psychology then takes hold, the driver that generally Dinks your car will always park in the correct manner, therefore keeping his car door a good metre away from your chariot, if however the car park attendant says that you are taking 2 spaces tell him a motorcyclist was parked in one half of the bay and you did not want to waste another bay, works for me all the time, always take 2 spaces ideally in the end of a row

What puzzles me is when i park in a supermarket i try to park away from everyone with no cars near me and nearly everytime when i get back to the car there is always another car parked right next to me even though there are tons of spaces away from me.

This is because some idiots drive into the car park and see your pride and joy parked all by itself so they think "Ooooh he's abit precious about his motor.... I'll wind him up good and proper by parking 5mm from his door :D "

I came Back today from shopping at asda and then went to the retail park. Once I unload the shopping at home I noticed a small dent in the boot dead central below the number plate approx 2" from the lip. I reversed in to the bay at asda and there is a safety barrier directly behind and then at the retail park I reversed into the bay which had a barrier around the street light. I have the elegance model and now used to the sensors but there wasn't a damage to the bumper at all. Wasn't there Tuesday when I washed the car and only been to the vets and I waited in the car when the missus went in. Absolutely puzzled how it got there. Sometimes it defies logic how dents etc end up on a car

You wouldn't get away with the motorbike theory by me mate I tried it but the smart ar*es have cameras and they simply play it back then whack you the ticket :swear:
