My first day in my new Superb

Featured Replies

At one point I thought the day would never arrive... but it did... and boy was it worth waiting for...

Arrived at the dealership at 9:30 and there she was, taking pride of place in the handover bay. I saw the car when it first arrived and whilst I was pleased, it was dirty and covered in protective film. In the showroom however, after a thorough cleaning, the Steel Grey finish is fantastic. I wasn't sure whether the colour would detract from the chrome details, but there's a perfect contrast. Some people have mentioned that the sunset glass isn't dark enough... I'll leave you to decide from these pictures, but it does seem to vary according to the light. I'm pleased with it though.

I've been driving around in a 60 plate Octavia loan car and I thought this would take some of the edge away from getting into the Superb... how wrong I was. No disrespect to Octavia drivers as it was a perfectly fine car, but the Superb is in another league! The CR diesel is so quiet, especially in the car. The Octavia (a DSG) had a huge delay when moving off and I really started to question whether I'd done the right thing by getting a DSG Superb... no delay whatsoever, and the changes seem even quicker too :)

Everything works as it should and I've spent a little time playing with settings. I managed to get my iPhone4 hooked up ok, although I found it connected when I searched using the phone and the car at the same time. Using just the car didn't work ("No compatible phones found"). It's reconnected every time since and downloaded the phone book, etc. without issue.

One point though, and perhaps somebody can assist... every time I switch the engine off I get a message on the Maxidot, along the lines of "SAFE securing - owners manual". Having read the manual the only thing I can see is reference to pressing the button on the remote twice to deactivate safe securing. I only ever press once and so I'm not sure what it's actually trying to tell me. Any ideas? :o

Sat Nav maps all loaded and postcode search works. I was expecting a postcode search function, but it seems you just type it in the "City" box instead. Seems to work ok though. Another note to others, it was defaulting to the most economical route, rather than quickest.

A bit of credit to the guys PDIing the car... when it was delivered, I took a couple of photos and when I looked closely at one of them, I was sure that the front badge was too small. Looking at pictures of other cars confirmed my suspicion. I was all ready to challenge the dealer about it, thinking that maybe the factory are running short on the "old" badges. However, when I saw the car I noticed they had actually swapped the badge for the correct size B)

Anyway, enough waffle (I really could go on)... it's photo time... enjoy!!

Very very nice, looks great plus a nice write up, hope your enjoying.

I'm starting to get excited about getting mine, I'm having doubts about aqua blue I ordered it in but we shall see ;0))

Does the sat nav have European maps?

Great news and excellent photos, thanks for sharing them with us. It looks fantastic and it's good to hear that the wait was worth it ... 29 weeks is a long time but if even after that you're pleased, then it gives hope to someone like me at the other end of the process, about to place an order on Tuesday!

Enjoy!

Paul

Very nice indeed, makes me want mine more and more each day! Having had a look at cargo ships Škoda are known to use, I suspect it's residing at Grimsby docks presently. Good to hear how pleased you are with the Superb too, mine's gonna feel brilliant after 3 and a bit months in a 10 yr old bora B)

SW1 - I think you'll be fine with aqua blue, BMW and Mazda do a similar colour on the 3 series and 6 and it looks very good in the flesh.

Thanks for the replies. My wife's Fabia is Aqua, looks nice... Almost silver in some lights and clearly blue in others. There's a thread on here about "detailing" an Aqua Superb... Certainly looks good.

I'm certain maps are European, but will double check next time I'm out.

The Aqua Blue is not a very blue colour like on Audi's and VW's, but it is still a nice colour, it also changes with the light so it can look silver, grey or blue depening on the light. It is also a difficult colour to photo.

That would of been mine in Baker21's hands

I have only been to Calais in mine, but it was covered on the maps.

Just calculated a route from my house to Söll in Austria. Calculated it perfectly, a mere 997 miles and 16 hour journey time. So yep, Europe definately included :)

Yep, it was Baker21's work... Shows Aqua offvery nicely.

Hi!

Regarding that message you get every time you stop the engine: I've asked for it earlier but no other answer than thats as it should be and and thats a little snag in the info-system. Nothing to pay any attention to. Or an urge to to read the manual one more time... But seriously, one could expect Skoda to remove this annoying things and that "PLONG" you get every time the phone hooks up/down.

Happy new car then! :D

Strangely, the message has stopped... Maybe it only does it for the first day or something weird like that. I don't get any noises when my phone connects or disconnects though...

Cool , thanx for all the info ref the sat nav and aqua, anyhow hope you are loving the new ride in this weather

Glad you are not disappointed. Agree with your comments about the Superb- I was worried that others were comparing to smaller, therefore less refined cars like Octy- It is still much better than my Avensis in terms of ride comfort and sheer presence. had a ride in the back today- WOW!- leg room and something very few have mentioned- the air vents in B pillar- made the ride very comfortable.

I dont have maxidot but do get the safety message on the display every time I switch off. Had to look for it today to see if is was still there as I have obviously been ignoring it. Fuel warning light came on today- car took 45 LItres, and is showing a range of 690 miles (based on my driving style covering 300 miles since Friday Morning).

nice like that enjoy

Superbalicious,

Very nice car! Enjoy!

Re. the message... a few weeks ago someone posted something about the locking system. I never knew this & I was amazed, had to go out & test it (in Golf & Superb) & yes surprise surprise both VAG family members were the same...

If you press the locking button on the key-fob once - IMO its what we should all do! It locks, sets the alarm AND DEAD LOCKS! (ie. you can't open the doors from the inside!)

If you press the locking button on the key-fob TWICE - IMO its BAD! It locks, sets the alarm AND DE-ACTIVATES the dead locking system! (ie. you can open the doors from the inside & get out easily - easy for the thief too! But at least the alarm does go off!)

Now get out there & test it... :giggle: I felt a dork setting of the alarm 4 times at 10pm one evening a few weeks ago - sorry neighbours! (I tested 2 cars don't forget)

Hi Stef

Thanks for the comments... really enjoying the car!

I've read manual and understand the two methods of locking (single or double click), but I don't understand why the maxidot has to display a message about "safe locking", especially when the manual refers to "safe securing" but makes not no reference to the display.

I've also noticed my "leaving home" lights don't come on, even though they're activated on the maxidot. I believe they are deactivated for shipping though and have to be reactivated during the PDI... something which I've been told they sometimes forget to do. Looks like a quick trip back to the dealer to get them sorted. I'll get them to check the message too :)

Glad to hear youu were aware... I've previously known cars to lock with 1st click & dead lock on 2nd... & now I still find it really hard to only click once!! :-(

Re. message... I get it too so I'll be interested to hear what the dealer has to say. Lights, mine do come on so no PDI complaints with that one. Strange tho if they swapped the badge but missed what was presumably a "click on option" setting.

Now you just have to try & keep it looking in showroom condition... good luck!

Stef

So it's finally arrived!!

Looks fantastic and a nice colour choice too. I went to the Oswestry dealers today to look at an Octy SE estate (the 1.6 MPI deal version)to use as a works hack. That was in Anthracite and looked well in estate shape.

Glad to hear you're loving the new motor and may well see you at the saturday car wash!

Very sassy.

My leaving home lights were set up- think the lights have to be set to Auto to work properly though

Thanks mate, really enjoying it. Saturday mornings are going to be a family outing if Andrea insists on the Fabia being washed too :giggle:

Hope the Monte is going well?

You'll be able to form your own queue!! I used to get some odd looks when I used to have the Black Fabia washed and then return 20mins later with the MX5 :D

Still loving the Monte and so glad I got the revvy TSi I have had thoughts of ordering a VRS but just don't know whether I could wave goodbye to the manual gearbox. I am going to go to Mitchells this morning to see if they still have a VRS on demo for me to borrow for a few hours

Definately turned on in Maxidot and lights always set to Auto. I'll pop it into the dealer to see if it needs activating via vcds. I might also get them to swap the leaving/coming home lights from the xenons to the fog lights, which I believe can be done :)

Yes that certainly can be done with VCDS.

I was told the "leaving home" lights don't work if the battery is low. Mine only worked after a long run to fully charge the battery
