Technical help from myself..part2

Featured Replies

Things have quickly changed from yesterday. Myself and a rep from Skoda U.K today had a friendly chat about myself and where I stand on what I can and cant do with regards to technical help on Briskoda.

Basically it boils down to myself being free to share my knowledge with members on the site but I am not allowed to disclose any specific details i.e part numbers and bulletin numbers which I think is fair enough. There are legal reasons for this, it is not Skoda with holding information from customers but there has to be a controlled system in which information like this is obtained.

So it looks like Skoda are listening aswell as watching which is good.

Thanks

Ross

So it's not as bad as first thought, and I can understand about the bulliten numbers and any related part no's too as they are comercially sensitive in a way.

 A result! :D

Sounds like a very positive resolution, nice one!

Nice one Ross, and I suppose a  to Skoda UK!

;)

Amazing how my attitude can be altered in such a short space of time.

Nice one Skoda UK. A good comprimise. I'd never have expected all the "to be released" secrets to be divulged by Ross, just some good honest tips and advice. :)

Nice to hear Ross, glad your able to still help out!! :D

And Skoda UK..............well done if you did listen, maybe you should do more of this in the future ;)

Power to the people! :)

Excellent news... and thankyou Ross for your continued support.

 to Skoda UK.

Good news Ross.

Now I'm having a small problem.... :D

Glad to hear we're beginning to be listened to. to the Skoda UK person who made that enlightened decision. Ross - good to hear you will be able to continue your efforts with official approval.

good news and fair results all round then, at least we know someone is listening to us which is always a bonus.

nice one Ross... glad you didnt get into any extra trouble through us lot.

This is giving me violent mood swings! well done skoda UK for listening to some passionate owners and speaking with Ross to clarify

Glad to hear they spoke with you Ross

I think that is really fair of them as if we phoned the dealer each time we had a rattle I am sure they would soon be annoyed with us.

What a great compromise.

Am I misunderstanding something here :confused:

I dont see the problem with giving part numbers out or bulletin numbers or does it come under the realms of "not in the customers interest" to know such things

:confused::confused::confused:

IF theres a problem, and a bulletin is issued, then surely we should, as owners be told about it :confused:

I dont see the problem with giving part numbers out or bulletin numbers or does it come under the realms of "not in the customers interest" to know such things

Tending to agree with you on that - why don't they want techs giving out part numbers? Can easily go to a dealership and ask for part numbers, so they're not exactly "secret" are they?

The bulletins...I can understand that they're internal memoranda and as such are confidential, but at the same time if they're relevant to an issue posted on here, why can't the details be divulged as surely a visit to a dealer to ask about the issue would yield these too? :rubchin:

Rob.

Hi Ross

I'm glad things have been resolved in a positive way. I'm sure it must have caused you some unnecessary stress, as no doubt it caused some tension at work.

I'm also glad Skoda UK have seen the light on this one, though in hindsight perhaps it would have been far better if they had approached you directly in the first place. It certainly would have helped you, and maybe kept them in Briskoda members good books.

I'm fairly new to the forum, but I know from many of the things I have read that your input is greatly appreciated. I hope that this incident hasn't put you off too much.

All the Best

Chris

Unless..... hypothetically:

Some less than helpful dealers have complained to Skoda that they are being made to look stupid by users telling them which tech bulletin and which part number they need to fit to resolve an issue.

Well, just ask the dealership for the part number. If it's anything like my former dealers, the parts come from the other side of the site, and their line is always engaged.

What's to stop you saying "I'll go over, it's allright". You're then armed with the appropriate part reference.

Althoughto be fair if you;ve got a half decent motor-factors supplier you can probably get the needed info anyway........

For example, when my Octavia's MAF went on the fritz, the dealer said MAF. I e-mailed "eurocar parts" and et voila..........part number was forthcoming.......and so was the part..........cheaper than a dealer too.........

For the short time I have been on this site ( correct me if I am wrong ), But i have never seen any quotes from Bulletins, only sensible advice.

Also, there has ALWAYS been a note of , If there is ANY uncertainty from advice offered, then take it back to the dealer, most of us still have cars under Warranty, and we all know that if we as owners do any serious work on the car BANG goes the warranty ( if covered).

To his credit Ross has never suggested doing anything that will knowingly invalidate warranty.

Just nice to see COMMON SENSE has prevailed in this case. :)

I look forward to seeing some sound advice from people who know and care about there cars.

Steve

Glad to hear they have now dealt with you sensibly Ross - was worried that it might impact on your work which would have been a big :( Good result all round I would say.

On the other issues:

Part numbers - still confuses me why there isn't a clear list for all somewhere on this. It surely can't be seen to be confidential  Anyway im sure we can find a friendly list somewhere from non-skoda employees ;)

Bulletins - fair enough, since im sure many of them are mundane / minor issues, and no manufacturer would want the more jumpy owners getting uppity over every small issue which may just be "advisory" / "check" rather than actually a major issue. Having said that the Skoda UK bulletin on coil packs is the sort of thing that should NOT be confidential and should be freely circulated - without Briskoda several owners would not have got their packs replaced free of charge since many dealers did not seem to know about it (or never read it  ).

I am confused about part no's too as ALL part numbers for my car are readily available and we have a friendly tech from smart who helps us in the same way as ross does, and thats on a manufacturer endorsed site too - very odd indeed.

The only thing i can think of is if you got the part numbers and prices, it would make the markup on the difference in cost between 2 models of the same car apparent. So the elegance to classic difference and markup would be visible (without the labour) - but again thats still a bit silly.

I think this is a fair compromise.

Skoda enthusiasts get ther reliable help and advice still, Skoda retain their confidentiality over internal matters/information.

And that is where it should be left..a thankyou to all concerned.

NB..as regards part nos, just remember Ekta is out there....

result :cheering:

If this 'about face' by Skoda is due to what has been said here then nice one Skoda, you have redeemed yourself somewhat.

Ross, it's good to know that you are again on hand to offer friendly, accurate and impartial advice.
