Changed my side lights from original W5W Bulb to SMD-9LED-CANBUS Xenon_white.

I did it because I found the original bulb's a bit too dull or old fashion looking.

A surprise was that the LED is a bit brighter than the original bulb.

I've ordered some LED DRL's which will hopefully be here in the next day or so. I agree that the old lights look a little dated against today's "white" LEDs... but that's the key, they must look "white", rather than blue :)

Ok, I use MTEC for the DRL, which I am very satisfied with.

Any chance for a picture or two here of the LED DRL's in action ??

to be honest... i cant see a point in changing them...

Daytime the car has the DRL's on, and at Night, the HID's - i dont think i've ever had just the Sidelights on....

Ehhh ? Took me less than 5 min's. I found it VERY easy compared to other cars/brands.

There are odd times I park in poorly lit area's where I leave my side-lights on.emoticon-0148-yes.gif

I do have a chose of leaving only one side lit, (c/o Skoda indicator system) but usually have both sides lit.emoticon-0148-yes.gif

You MUST

  • ensure all sidelights and rear registration plate lights are lit between sunset and sunrise

Not me saying this just quoting the Highway Code.

I changed my standard sidelight bulbs on my Octy for ones that had a slight blue tint (got them free with my XTreme headlight bulbs).

These give off a very crisp white light not the normal yellow - will probably put some LEDs in the DRLs but switch the sidelights to these.

Like has already been mentioned the DRLs will be on so the sidelights are pretty redundant.

So, I have a new pair of canbus friendly side light leds to replace the old incandescent bulbs, but bugger me If I can't get them out.

I don't want to break anything, do they twist out? if so which way, or do they just simply pull straight out?

Thanks

pull it out. It's quite tight for a virgin but you will get the hang of it after a few go.

Lol really? just pull harder? I was afraid I'd break something..?

I can hear an actress shouting on a Bishop somewhere

:o

Lol, ooo matron!

Right so,

Not to be beaten, went out and used a different tack!

Little SnapOn right angle pick, gently levered out either side and hey presto, they just simply pull out!

Better than that, I now have some nice white LED side lights that perfectly match the Xenons, no more orange glow when the headlights are on. Sweet!

Bought these, - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190551821607&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT - quick delivery and are nice and white and bright.

Simples :-)

Slammed the bonnet shut in disgust. As I could NOT remove the side light from the housing and enough blood and skin had been lost. Got my fingers on it. Got it turning. Could see it all with a mirror. What a little bastid!

What's the trick folks for getting the side light out?

ps - was intending to try a couple of LEDs as shown somewhere on here

Read my last post, just lever either side and it'll just pop out, no twist or anything like that needed.

Must admit that I have gone back to the orig bulbs !!! The ebay LEDs burned out after 4000 km ...... Grrrr

Where did you buy them from, I got mime from eBay. I can see them starting to leave heat residue inside the reflectors, which is common with can bus LEDs.

I think it maybe time to go back the oem ones.

OK. Found my over grown tooth pick and went out to do battle with my side lights this evening. Couldn't see a thing, but fumbled around for a while and eventually managed to engage the hook and yank the little buxxxrs out. Quickly learned the LED bulbs only work one way round. Looking good now. But I did forget to check the dash for error warning lamp like the one I sometimes get due to the LED DRLs. Fingers crossed.

Funny once you get em out finally eh, so frustrating until the penny drops :-)

Hi everyone, Just bought my first Skoda (Superb) and now am trying to change the parking (sidelights) lights in the front with LEDs. Got the Philips Ultinon ones but now can't change them since I don't know how to. Tried to pull it out no luck. Short of breaking it I don't know what to do. Any ideas???

Finally done mine today! After multiple tries to pull them out, the near side one came out. The off side one would not, so I had to use adjustable grips and that finally worked.
